And Now For a Special Mega Man Virtual Console Announcement

With the launch of Mega Man Battle Network in North America today, Nintendo brings us some very good Virtual Console news. Coming from today's press release: "If you like Mega Man, then you’re in for a treat - a classic Mega Man game will release every Thursday in August in the Nintendo eShop on Wii U!"

That's right; it's Mega May all over again! In August! Capcom Unity has the lowdown on which games we can expect: Mega Man 5, Mega Man 6, Mega Man X3, and Battle Chip Challenge. The release order, however, will be a mystery... so you'll have to wait until Thursday to find out which one came out.

Naturally, we'll keep you posted. Until then, go and enjoy Battle Network!

GameCenter CX's Mega Man X Episode Subbed (Updated)

Thanks to the efforts of SA-GCCX, we can now enjoy the first episode of GameCenter CX's Mega Man X challenge in English. Having bested four Mega Man games in the past, host Shinya Arino approaches the series' first 16-bit outing with cautious optimism. "Things get scary when it moves to the SNES," says a humble Arino. "It either gets way ambitious, or easier to play."

This being part one of a two part challenge, you can imagine how things will play out. Either way, it's a fun watch. Head to GamingCX.com for the full episode (available both to stream and download). UPDATE: Episode 2 is live!

Enjoy!

Rockman 7 Coming to Japan Virtual Console Next Week

The Virtual Console train keeps on chuggin'. Next week in Japan, Rockman 7 will hit the Wii U on August 6th, priced at 823 Yen ($8.06). This marks the first time Rockman 7 will be made available digitally.

While a specific release date has not been set for North America, we do know it will hit our shores sometime this year. Nonetheless, if you happen to own a Japanese Wii U, take this as a heads up.

Discotek's Ruby-Spears Mega Man DVD Set Now Available for Preorder

As previously reported, Discotek Media are bringing the delightfully campy Ruby-Spears Mega Man cartoon back to DVD. The new set features all 27 episodes in a single package, wrapped in an absolutely radically box art. Just look at it; that's deliberate wear-and-tear, people.

Today, it's up for preorder from Rightstuf. Expected to launch on September 30th, the whole kit and kaboodle will run you $29.99 (normally $49.95). So if you've been hankering on checking out the show, or just want to replace those old sets, you're in luck!

Also, I do believe a giveaway contest is in order... we shall see!

A Look at Wonder Fest 2014 Summer Rockman Figures

Over the weekend, the summer Wonder Festival got underway in Chiba, Japan. Naturally there was a colorful array of homemade Rockman figures and models on display. And while many of us couldn't be there in person, we're fortunate enough to have friends on Twitter who caught a bit of the action.

You can see their photos here and here or check out a select few after the jump!

Rockman Xover's Battle Tower Has a New Boss

The ascent up Rockman Xover's Battle Tower just got a little more sinister. Awaiting players this month is the second of Nero's lackeys, Blu D. Just like Rosso M before him, Blu D is an original character exclusive to Xover. Whereas Rosso M was based on a phoenix, Blu D is presumed to be a tortoise. A tortoise wielding a big 'ol trident. He's pretty neat looking, actually. And look; fan-art.

With two guardians remaining, I think it's safe to say Capcom's going for an elemental thing here. Going be these silhouettes, one is assuredly electric-based. The other... maybe earth/wood? We'll find out soon enough.

Thanks, MidniteW!

Mega Man Battle Network Due on NA Virtual Console on July 31st

Today's Nintendo Minute (guest starring Capcom USA's own Brett Elston) delivers good news for Battle Network fans in the west. The original Mega Man Battle Network will be making its way to the North American Wii U Virtual Console next Thursday, July 31st. You can check out the announcement at the 2:45 mark above.

No word yet on price, though $7-$8 is anticipated. We'll have all the details next week!

Thanks to Axl_abe for the tip.

Battle Chip Challenge on the Way to JPN Virtual Console

And you thought Battle Network 2 was next? Nope; Nintendo is jumping two sequels ahead to Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge (aka Battle Chip GP). The side-story/spin-off is slated to hit the Japanese Wii U Virtual Console on July 30th for 702 Yen.

Battle Chip Challenge is... well, 'meh' at best. It's not terribly fun and, quite honestly, there's little to no actual challenge. It's just so easy. A breeze, almost. Mix that up with repetitive and dull combat and you've got yourself a series low point.

The general consensus tends to highlight BCC as the beginning of Battle Network's quality decline. The game's focus on tournaments would carry over into Battle Network 4. Red Sun or Blue Moon, the narrative was pretty much the same: tournaments. So many tournaments. On the upside, BCC did give players the chance to play as Navis other than Mega Man.EXE. That was pretty cool.

Anyway, BCC is very much indeed coming to Wii U. It'll end up on our shores eventually, most likely after BN1 (next week!). At this point I think it's safe to say Europe will get it first. So if you enjoyed the game in the past or curious about it now, stay tuned -- it's coming.

Mega Man 5, 6 & Battle Network Hitting EU Virtual Console This Week

Good news for our friends in Europe: a triple dose of classic Mega Man games are coming your way. Nintendo of Europe (and Nintendo UK) have announced that Mega Man 5, Mega Man 6, and the original Mega Man Battle Network are all headed to the Wii U Virtual Console on July 24th.

Another piece of good news: according to today's press release, Mega Man 5 and 6 are the US versions. As one may recall, the PAL versions played at a slower framerate than their North American counterparts.

So in just a few short days you'll be able to complete your Wii U NES Mega Man collection and kick off, what we hope will be, a string of Battle Network releases. No word yet on when these titles will hit North America. The sooner the better, though; I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Thursday. If not, we'll keep you posted.

Thanks to Eric for the tip!

Mighty No. 9 Update: July Gameplay Footage

A new month, a new Mighty No. 9 gameplay video. It starts off on familiar ground, but closer towards the middle you'll notice a few new bits of action. We catch a glimpse of Beck's transformations, some new enemies, and even a little bit of Call.

For a game nine months to release, things are shaping up nicely. There's still lots of room for polish and refinement, though. It'll be interesting to see how things will look closer to the new year.

Replica Mega Man Helmets Coming to San Diego Comic-Con

The 2014 San Diego Comic Con is almost upon us. And if you are fortunate enough to be attending, you'll be pleased to learn that Capcom are debuting a sweet pair of replica Mega Man helmets (made out of chrome resin, no less).

According to Brett Elston, these guys stand at 10'' and about 5'' inches wide. Classic blue and red/white colors will be available for purchase at Capcom's booth (215). Much like the 25th anniversary statue of SDCC past, these light up with the aid of a USB cable.

If you can't make it out to the show, Brett says there will be other opportunities to nab 'em up later. The red/white variant, however, has limited availability. There's a higher chance on that one selling out before it's blue brethren. The sooner you get it, the better.

If you're interested in checking out other swag on sale at Capcom's booth, check out this post here. SDCC kicks of July 24th!
