Destructoid Previews Rockman Xover

Our buddies over at Destructoid have just gotten their hands on the Tokyo Game Show Rockman Xover demo, and Conrad Zimmerman has posted some impressions. You'll find a portion of his thoughts below.

"Is it [Xover] thrilling? Well, no. The demo was such that I couldn't possibly screw it up. Enemies dealt no damage during the running section and it was mathematically impossible for Storm Eagle to deal enough damage to OVER-1 to destroy him. The combat is, at least insofar as the demo would show, very shallow. There was no blocking, no dodging, nothing really to do at all.

So, why am I not enraged with the fire of a thousand suns? There are two reasons. First, it's a mobile game. I'm not saying we should make excuses for phone games being crappy, but this is a representation of traditional Mega Man gameplay and I think using autorun and turn-based mechanics to represent that on a platform otherwise not conducive to the demands of the traditional design is a novel way to do so."

Though Zimmerman shares a more optimistic outlook, the game is not entirely without its faults. Head on over to Destructoid and read the complete preview!

Fan-Made Metall Plush is Exceedingly Adorable

Having spent so many years killing them, it's safe to say this is the first time I've ever wanted to hug a Metall. This super snuggable 13-inch plush Met is the product of Capcom Unity member Blues1990 and his good friend Clearkid. Exceedingly adorable, no? I mean just look at those big 'ol eyes! One gaze is enough to warm your heart.

He's not for sale, unfortunately. But you can admire a whole gallery's worth of photos at Capcom Unity. Be wary, my friends: the cuteness factor may overwhelm you!

Xover Trailer Theme Gets the 8-Bit Treatment

COCOROG's Tarbo-san has whipped up a cool 8-bit style remix of the music from the Rockman Xover Tokyo Game Show trailer. Have a listen; it's quite snazzy.

Overall, I really like the sound of this tune. I just hope the rest of the game's soundtrack is new material. Fingers crossed!

Rockman Xover Hands-On Impressions

No, I'm not at the Tokyo Game Show. But Rockman Corner contributor Andreas Asimakis is and he had the chance to take Rockman Xover for a testdrive. How does the game stack up to all the controversy? Well, I'll say this: Andreas doesn't sugar coat it. Read on for a portion of his review (brace yourself for some Not So Safe For Work language).

Rockman Xover Tokyo Game Show Trailer (Updated)

I'll try reserve judgment until I play the game... but yeah, I'm not really feeling it. The music was pretty nice, though.

So, what do we have here? Well, the trailer showed off some new stuff we haven't seen before. At 0:34, you can catch a glimpse of OVER-1's different forms. These forms -- each equipped with a significant attribute like a pair of claws and a big shield -- are implied to be concurrent with the game's customization system.  A Battle Memory card pops up at 0:40 and no less than a second later, you'll see the Battle Memory customization screen (at least that's what it looks like). Notice any familiar faces? I sure do.

That's all that can be said for now. More Xover details are bound to surface as the Tokyo Game Show continues to heat up.

UPDATE: We've got some additional details from the playable demo. Hit the jump below for the lowdown.

X and Zero Take on Firebrand in New Project X Zone Gameplay

The 2012 Tokyo Game Show has kicked off and with it comes another look at Project X Zone. For your viewing pleasure, here's some gamepaly from the showroom floor demo. Jump to 2:30 to see X and Zero (with a little help from Jill and Chris) beat the scrap out of Firebrand. Fun stuff!

Rockman 3 Headed to Japanese eShop

The title pretty much says it all, really. According to Nintendo Japan, Rockman 3 is slated to hit the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console next week, September 26th for 500 Yen.

No word yet on the possibility of a North American/European release... then again, we're still waiting for Mega Man 1 and Mega Man 2. One of these days, man. One of these days.

Iris Confirmed for Project X Zone (Updated)

Well, this was unexpected. Just when you thought Project X Zone had enough Mega Man reps, the latest issue of Famitsu brings word that Mega Man X4's Iris will join the game's already huge cast of characters. New characters confirmed in Famitsu also include Aura from the .hack series and Astaroth from Ghost ‘n Goblins.

UPDATE: Translated details reveal Iris (voiced by Yuko Mizutani) will show up as an event character, recognized by X as “the girl from that Repliforce incident.” That tidbit seems to suggest the events of PXZ take place sometime after X4. Question is, how is Iris alive? [via The Mega Man Network]

16 Minutes Worth of Project X Zone Goodness

It's the longest trailer yet and it's got some great footage of X, Zero, Tron Bonne and Vile in action. Check it out below (good stuff at 4:44)!

Project X Zone is due for release in Japan on October 11th. Still no word yet for any release in the west, but we can hope.

Official Mega Man Plush Redated

As one might recall, GE Animation pulled the official Mega Man plush from its previously-planned April 30th release for reasons unknown. Being one of the more anticipated products from GE's Mega Man line, some folks took this as a sign it wasn't coming out at all.

Fortunately, that is not the case: AAA Distribution has revealed that the plush is now poised to be released on November 30 for $13.99. Retailers interesting in stocking the plush can preorder it directly from GE Animation. or AAA Distribution. So yeah, expect to see this little guy on store shelves in December.

If that wasn't enough, I bring even more good news: I've learned GE Animation are exploring the possibility of more Mega Man plush characters! They are still working on approval and licensing, but it seems the success of the Blue Bomber plush could help pave the way for more soft and cuddly characters.

Anyone in particular you'd like to see? Try to limit your wishlist to Classic series characters only, please.

Don't Count On a New Game for the 25th Anniversary

Rockman Corner reader Joshua sent over this interesting 25th anniversary comment from Capcom's corporate officer Christian Svensson. Check it out:

"In December 'some but not all' plans for the coming year of celebrations will be shared. There are many moving parts and not everything will be done and final come December. No one has promised a game or even an announcement of one at that time. Please do keep expectations in check." [source]

The only thing it seems we can be certain of is that Capcom will be doing something (i.e. "celebrations") involving Mega Man, at the very least. I get the feeling that after the widespread meltdown of Mega Man Legends 3 and Mega Man Universe, Capcom won't be discussing the prospect of a new game until all the pieces are in place. The last thing we need is to have something announced prematurely and witness yet another cancellation because the project wasn't good and ready.

All we can do is simply wait and hope. And that's all that can be said for now, really.

Thanks for the tip Joshua!

So, How About Rockman Xover on Android?

So yeah, Rockman Xover. It's a social RPG coming to iOS later this year. That's all well and good, but what about Android users? Will they get in on the social Blue Bomber action, too?

"I'm not aware of it coming to any other OSes at this time, however me not being aware of it doesn't mean it's not (I'm a bit out of the loop on the latest mobile happenings)," replied Christan Svensson when asked about the possibility of an Android version.

"We've not yet provided any major details of this game's Western release plan yet (other than the fact it's coming Westward) and I'd imagine at some point we'll be able to provide more visibility when we've got all of the necessary information."

Rockman Xover is expected to make its first public appearance at the Tokyo Game Show coming up next week. Stay tuned for the inevitable information overload!
