An Update on Reika Morishita's DASH Theme Arrangements

Remember when Reika Morishita announced she was releasing new arrangements of Rockman DASH's theme songs? According to her latest blog post, we ought to be hearing those sometime in the very near future:

"Alright, some news at long last. We’ve arrived at the climax of this whole thing, the mix work. Countless times I’ve received files to check and adjust, but I’m getting a good feeling it’s nearing completion.
Way back when, we’d coop ourselves up in a studio to do mixing, but the times have changed. Now with PCs, there’s no need to gather in a studio, but rather mail what you’ve done back and forth to check. As much as this removes restrictions for us and grants freedom, it also costs time. So there can’t help but be additional lag. The engineer goes to the arranger for checks, then it comes to me for checks. And then I give my feedback. Then adjustments. More checks… Whew, honestly, if we all met together it’d be done in a day, but that’s not how it works.
How much longer will the files keep coming to me? And how much more will I make requests? Of course, many of these demands are on such an incredibly miniscule level, and to the common person, they might think “What did you even change?” But we’ve got ears like bats, and will produce only the finest product. So you see, because we’ve been working with our best effort, it’s taken some time. We hope you understand!
I have a mind to begin making announcements sometime this month. Bear with us!"

The one year, uh, "anniversary" of Legends 3's cancellation is coming up. Perhaps that would be the ideal time to release the arrangements -- a fitting tribute, to say the least.

Hoping to hear more on this subject soon!

Robot Master Attire Discovered in 'Magicka'

Wizardly action PC game Magicka appears to be getting a little Mega Man flare in the near feature. Hiding within the files of the game's latest major patch (1.4.7.0: The Other Side of the Coin), reader Joseph Collins discovered a series of Robot Master themed robes:

The resemblance is uncanny, really. From left to right: Elec Man (Electrobe), Fire Man (Robe of Flamos) and Ice Man (Rob of Colldar).

According to Collins' findings, these robes will be released in a future DLC pack called the "Villain Item Pack." Data-mining of the patch also reveals each robe's attributes, accessories and quotes. You can find the lowdown on all that here.

It remains to be seen if these robes are mere tributes on behalf of the game's designers, or some sort of unannounced cross promotion between Capcom and Arrowhead Game Studios, Magicka's developer. I suppose we'll find out eventually, but nevertheless, this one neat find!

Closer Look at the Rockcan Soundtrack Collection

Over at Rockman Unity, Ucchy recently had some time to check out the prototype packaging for the upcoming 25th anniversary "Rockcan" soundtrack collection. It's pretty big:

Check out more images here.

Additionally, Ucchy confirmed the collection will contain three tracks from the Sega Saturn version of Rockman 8. He's referring to the alternate Tengu Man stage, Cut Man's theme and Wood Man's theme. It's unclear, however, if the rest of the Rockman 8 tracks will continue to use the PlayStation version as their source.

The Rockcan soundtrack collection includes 10 discs of remastered music from Rockman 1 through Rockman 10. It's going to run for 14,700 Yen (roughly $185) and set to release in Japan on September 19th. Still no word if this one will make the jump to our side of the pond -- keep those fingers crossed!

New Project X Zone Trailer Boasts X and Zero Gameplay

It's ten minutes long and it's all action. Mega Man X and Zero get some great screen time -- lots of explosions and such -- and you can even spot quiet a few familiar Mega Man-related foes. I tell ya, this won't make that whole "no localization" thing any easier. Watch at your own discretion!

Thanks for the tip, Krystian!

Mega Man X for iOS Tears Up the Charts

Everybody loves the original Mega Man X, and if you need any proof of that, look no further than the latest App Store charts:

Thanks to a recent price cut, The iOS version of Mega Man X effortlessly climbed the paid application charts this weekend. As of this writing, the game rests at #7 on the top paid iPhone apps, and #10 on the top paid iPad apps.

Quality port or not, that's pretty spectacular. I mean, do you know how long it's been since any X game made it on a top ten of any sort? Like, years. Yeah it's a bit sad but, hey, at least the series is getting some mainstream exposure.

Mega Man X's price cut (down from 4.99 to 0.99) lasts until July 4th, so there's still some time to see it fluctuate a bit.  Regardless, I bet Capcom's mighty happy right about now.  Mega Man X2 for iOS, anyone?

More Old Mega Man Docs and Materials

Last year, a collector by the name of Buyatari obtained an astonishingly cool collection of internal Mega Man documents used by Capcom back in the early 90's. They include all sorts of neat stuff -- unseen concept artwork, ad mockups, and work-in-progress package designs.

Apparently, there were a few pieces we missed initially. Buyatari's Photobucket is home to a handful of things we didn't see. More box mockups, more concept art and a closer look at some of the materials we saw last year. Click here (go to page six) and here to check 'em out.

All in all, fascinating stuff. Strange stuff. I, for one, am still amazed we could've seen an official Mega Man 2 toyline waaaay back when. What I'd give to see (let alone own) some prototype molds!

Thanks for the tip, Mac!

Grab Mega Man X on iOS for 99 Cents

From now until July 4th, you can score the iOS version of Mega Man X for just 99 cents. Sure, it's not the ideal version of the SNES classic, but at that price it's probably worth a look. And, hey, at least it looks nice.

Also on sale for 99 cents from Capcom, Street Fighter IV Volt and Monster Hunter: Dynamic Hunting. Grab 'em while you can!

Check Out BC Direct's Custom Armor Capsule and Dr. Light Figure

The talented BC Direct is back with a pair of new custom figures. If you enjoyed his Doc Robot custom from a couple years ago, you'll definitely get a kick out of these guys:

Left and center, we have a very snazzy armor chamber from Mega Man X.  It's made from a durable plastic and features working LED's on the top and bottom.  Best of all, it's scaled to work Bandai's D-Arts figures! BC Direct's custom Dr. Light, however, may be a bit too jolly to fit inside. Pictured right, it's quite possibly the most realistic Dr. Light figure I've ever seen. Enchantingly creepy, to say the least.

BC Direct doesn't just make Mega Man figures -- his portfolio also includes a handful of comic book-inspired customs, accessories, and props! He even takes commissions. So if you want a realistic Dr. Light or an armor chamber of your very own, contact BC Direct for quotes via Facebook or Twitter.

Mega Man X Makes the Cover of Project X Zone

Well isn't this a sight for sore eyes. Mega Man X hasn't graced retail game packaging since, gosh, Maverick Hunter X in 2005:

X is but one of many iconic characters gracing the packaging of Project X Zone (closer image here). Due on October 11, the first printing of the game will come in a special box that includes a character profile booklet and a "crossover soundtrack CD" featuring the game's background music. You better believe there'll be some Mega Man X tunes in there.

Whether or not PXZ will release outside of Japan is still a looming mystery. That decision rests with Namco Bandai, not Capcom.

Be sure to check out Andriasang's full report for more PXZ imagery.
