It also depends on the depiction, Sensei for example illustrates much bulkier designs than Hayato or Tatsuya or Keiji now that I think about it.

http://i.imgur.com/7eBLuvQ.pngAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4080026879350344019.post-71265467716497004932017-03-28T19:43:29.394-05:002017-03-28T19:43:29.394-05:00It's like a gift to future you from present yo...It's like a gift to future you from present you! It's not like we had a reference for how Trigger should universally look like anyway.

I mean okay, I doubt the Legends armor design will win stylistic awards but at the same time, it's not like they made it look like a literal stick figure.

As someone else already said, it's probably all personal taste in the end. Till this day, there will always be those who are still not used to the shift from X series to Zero series art style while depicting returning characters. Those who got tired of Giant legged robots probably liked Zero style and vice versa for those who liked the X designs in the first place. If they redesigned Legends to be more "streamlined", then it will also have the same opposition. That is if we ever get another Legends game in the first place anyway.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4080026879350344019.post-55966167980517409272017-03-26T22:51:11.336-05:002017-03-26T22:51:11.336-05:00Love this so much. Just that there is aesthetic beauty to both the fantastical and the real-world practical side of sci-fi designs. Something like a 40 feet Gundam really wouldn't work (or be worth the effort to make it work), but it's fun to toy around with designs both ways.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4080026879350344019.post-38690656768802261442017-03-25T23:05:35.672-05:002017-03-25T23:05:35.672-05:00Classic and X don't really have giant arms and...Classic and X don't really have giant arms and legs, just bigger forearms and lower legs in relation, and even then outside of the incredibly tacky aesthetic of the Archie universe where they exacerbate that theme to nearly everything including humans, it is heavily implied and in cases outright exemplified that those are knee high and and elbow long, glove and boot armors.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4080026879350344019.post-71365404509515924202017-03-25T21:02:55.684-05:002017-03-25T21:02:55.684-05:00Score6 really did a good job. For example X has visible X-ray shots in X5 and inner schemes in the beginning of Z4.... at least I think that's X... anyway X's 4inch nel knees consist of conventional external hinges which is clearly unlike anything I've seen of X's skeleton, which is fine, I don't expect them to make a literal mini X, cause X is highly advanced in conception, so he is simplified as a mass produced figure, like most figures.

Which makes me think back, are you saying it's good to design things in sci-fi based on the limitations of real world modern tech?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4080026879350344019.post-27020853454974472872017-03-24T11:58:06.405-05:002017-03-24T11:58:06.405-05:00"Because action figures usually don't hav..."Because action figures usually don't have complex inner skeletons/mechanisms and or don't cover up eternal joints, therefor have exposed ball joints and conventional hinges for articulation."

And that stops a character from being designed with exposed ball joints and hinges in mind, particularly when the character in question is a robot (or however you want to classify Trigger)? Perhaps they want to design it to look little more practical, since such joints would be easier to design around for in real life?

To me, all that sounds like a matter of personal taste rather than universal truth.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4080026879350344019.post-82384791492041598572017-03-24T04:17:44.189-05:002017-03-24T04:17:44.189-05:00internal not eternal *typo...internal not eternal *typo...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4080026879350344019.post-40091490310840040602017-03-24T03:52:08.842-05:002017-03-24T03:52:08.842-05:00About the design, I recall an interview with Inafu...About the design, I recall an interview with Inafune back when the game was released, where he specifically said that the design was made this way in order to best support the graphical ability of the PSX. He claimed the classic designs of MM and X simply wouldn't look good, hence why they skimmed his arms and boots down into cylinders.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4080026879350344019.post-80620835399596006252017-03-23T22:31:11.482-05:002017-03-23T22:31:11.482-05:00"How does posable action figure's accurac..."How does posable action figure's accuracy correlate to clumsy design, exactly?"

Um................... Not sure if serious or not....... But I guess I'll explain... Because action figures usually don't have complex inner skeletons/mechanisms and or don't cover up eternal joints, therefor have exposed ball joints and conventional hinges for articulation.

"It's almost as if he's supposed to look robotic :o

Plus he was designed for old 3d hardware so it just works."

Is he? I thought the designers tried to make him the most android-like. Also clunky and blocky aren't integral of robots or robotics, robots can be sleek and graceful.

"Blocky =/= clunky"

It can be both, those are not mutually exclusive, I don't even think he's blocky ... well he is a little but he's way more IMO awkwardly cylindrical and spherical overall.

"All PS1 characters were were this way due to 3d graphical limitations"

Um, Snake, Cloud, Musashi etc weren't designed to look low polygonal, or account for low polygonal hardware. Actually in S.Snake's case he preexisted PS1 3D and the artstyle from concept art along with context of the series clearly shows MG's overall aesthetic related to human-like characters to lean toward anatomically realistic. Also it's a video game with in jokes and homages to its past, so not sure why your last statement would suit your point.

Plus why would being designed to purposefully antiquate with hardware limitations in this case be a good thing? That's like saying Mega Man Classic was designed to look like a low pixel NES sprite and being all OK with that. I mean you can be but... yeah.

Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4080026879350344019.post-35720487864497249222017-03-23T19:41:30.605-05:002017-03-23T19:41:30.605-05:00I'm honestly quite excited for this figure. I have passed on every single figure of this line as I'm not impressed by them, not one bit. But I thought of picking up X as I was more intrigued by it but not anymore because of its inaccurate height, but I get that's the theme of the line being 4inch figures but that just makes them inaccurate then. But when Volnutt was announced I was not intrigued at all, but now with the helmet accessory/option though... now I'm quite interested in it. I have some vintage Bandai Volnutt model kits, Yujin Volnutt, Score6 Volnutt, and WF (I forget the sculptor's name) Volnutt kit.
