Guess I can partially blame Capcom for barely doing anything meaningful with the series lately; I know that not all of Megaman's anniversaries have been grand spectacles, but at least then it didn't feel like they needed other companies to do their job for them. (The rest of the blame goes to my shoddy memory.)

(Before anyone shoots a condescending "stop being mad at Capcom!", keep in mind that I'm not sure if I'm really "mad" at this point, just exasperated.)RADIXnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4080026879350344019.post-34167885024762402712013-12-17T20:47:21.426-06:002013-12-17T20:47:21.426-06:00Protodude, isn't X's birthday the same as ...Protodude, isn't X's birthday the same as Rock's, which is the 17th (today?) Last time I tried, I couldn't beat Sigma's final form. There's a YT video showing this done but it looks like a TAS. I'll also play Mega Man X4 for the great dubbing, and might even make a video I've been meaning to make for awhile.

As for the classic series, I think I'll finally sit down and play through the Rockman Complete Works series again and play the PocketStation games too. Whatever happened to Henger/DeGamer's translations? I think the cancellations have brought a lot of attention to the franchise, for better or worse & I'm sure there will be another game sometime, there just HAS to be! Hopefully things like the Smash Bros appearance as well as the Virtual Console/PSN etc re-releases will bring more new fans in & show Capcom that if they (or a 3rd party) make something for the series people will buy it!

After seeing a couple of screenshots of Megaman fighting Yellow Devil in Smash I'd love to see Nintendo tackle a Megaman game in that style... Bit of a conspiracy theory for you & I'll probably be wrong but Nintendo seem to have been promoting the Megaman games on e-shop quite a lot recently between having him on the virtual console main page pic this last week (at least here in Europe) on the WiiU as well as offering discounts on the games & of course his appearance in Smash makes me wonder if something else is going on between Capcom & Ninty .... & considering the start of the 26th year starts today & Nintendo have a "Nintendo Direct" set for tomorrow just seems like odd timing to me..... again I'm probably clutching at straws in saying this but hey a guy can dream ey? I mean who wouldn't want a Ninty Megaman game or at the very least Megaman & Rush turning up in their Battle & Chase gear as a guest character in Mario Kart 8 would be cool! It'...Nope. No. Nein. Niet. Nix. Nil. Nai. It's too late, Ucchy. Capcom had their chance, but the 25th Anniversary is over. But let's recap. What did Rock get for his 25th anniversary? And I don't mean "the entire multiverse of games". I mean specifically the Classic series:

- A commercially-backed, free, mediocre, cross-promotional fan game.
- A cameo in Rockman Xover as a badly-done sprite edit skin no one will ever use.
- Re-releases of old NES and Game Boy titles on various game systems. (But not the 16 or 32-bit titles.)
- Random miscellaneous merchandise a very limited number of people (read: no one) wanted or asked for.

Mind you, these are all things to come directly out of Capcom. I could also include the big "screw you" from series creator Keiji Inafune with Mighty No. 9 and the continued Archie comics series, not to mention the cameo fighter role in Smash Bros. 4, but Capcom really didn't have anything to do with those other than giving the go-ahead.

So... yeah. It does none of us any good, and doesn't do Capcom any good. It really only ultimately serves to just make things miserable for everyone. This isn't a matter of being a "stupid optimist" or what have you.

I think this year has been really good for Mega Man, actually. Xover has done very well over there (even if it's not the kind of game most of us here would enjoy), and they even greenlighted a fangame to be a semi-official release... for free! It may not have been the greatest game ever, but the gesture on Capcom's end was truly cool. To say nothing of the nods the character is getting in other games... and heck, he's going to be in the next Smash! That's awesome.

To say nothing about the wealth of fangames that got released, from Mega Man Unlimited, to Mega Man Revolution, to Mega Man Rock Force... heck, stuff like Super Mega Man 3 isn't bad either, and there's even more coming down the pipeline from various people (Mega Man Eternal is one, there's at least two others whose names that escape me that are also both shaping up to be very nice, one of which has a public demo somewhere on Yoyogames).

Mega Man's doing fine in other media too. I've heard praise for the writing (if not the inner art) of the Archie comics, and the board game is generating a pretty decent amount of hype.

Capcom's also doing their best to make a lot of the very old games commercially available for those nostalgic or even those who weren't around for them, hold-ups on Nintendo's end aside.

Any amazing new games in the future? Right now, no, but I don't hold the cancellations that happened against them given a number of the circumstances that surrounded them. Rather than curse Capcom's name and yell about using Mighty No. 9 as some sort of misguided revenge proxy, instead I simply choose to be content with my early gaming memories of one of my famous franchises, and as I type am planning to play through a classic title or two tonight to celebrate the 26th anniversary.

Let's not stress the future in terms of commercial games. Let's instead celebrate the series' long legacy and enjoy the fact we have a hell of a lot of great fun games to play over and over, because those aren't going anywhere.

I'm content, and I hope others will grow to be content too. Let's all go blast Dr. Wily and/or Sigma or what have you a new one in our favorite games, and move on from spitting poison and crying foul.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4080026879350344019.post-70858883188696569552013-12-17T10:21:58.587-06:002013-12-17T10:21:58.587-06:00I think it's appropriate to leave this here: ...I think it's appropriate to leave this here: http://www.rockman-corner.com/2013/02/capcom-offers-some-25th-anniversary.html
"When Dec 31, 2013 elapses, feel free to evaluate the anniversary efforts."
They're running out of days...MKVaranahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08725415869049558415noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4080026879350344019.post-5504759779203769852013-12-17T09:14:32.499-06:002013-12-17T09:14:32.499-06:00Maybe we'll get a new game once we reach the 3...Maybe we'll get a new game once we reach the 30th anniversary.TekkZeronoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4080026879350344019.post-51174753929377285522013-12-17T08:10:52.664-06:002013-12-17T08:10:52.664-06:00I don't mean to rain on your parade.
