Udon Entertainment appears to be teasing a long-awaited continuation of Archie Comics’ Mega Man series.
Director of Publishing Matt Moylan tweeted an image featuring the number “56” presented in the traditional Mega Man stage-select style, along with the message, “Announcement coming at San Diego Comic-Con.” The implication seems fairly clear: Archie’s original series ended with issue #55, and Udon may be preparing to pick things up with a brand-new issue #56.
Nothing has been formally announced yet, but this would continue Udon’s ongoing efforts to bring Archie’s Mega Man comics back. The publisher is already reprinting the series under the new Mega Man Adventures label, which also includes new material from members of the original creative team.
Archie’s Mega Man came to an abrupt end in 2015, leaving several storylines unfinished. Fans have spent more than a decade hoping the series might someday return.

ReplyDeleteI thought Archie Mega Man was never coming back. Gives me hope that Archie Sonic will come back and fix Sally. But nevertheless, this is a win.
ReplyDeleteThe current Sonic comic seems pretty dire, based on what I've heard. A lot of it has to do with Sega's conditions, I think? Like Sonic can't ever lose or something goofy like that.
Delete@RS Proto Man The IDW Sonic comics are overall quite excellent, but SEGA does have a lot of silly mandates for the franchise as a whole such as Sonic not being allowed to cry, which previously resulted in an Archie series comic getting censored. They've also been reworking the personalities of the characters which sometimes works out for the best but has resulted in some controversial changes such as Amy's personality being completely inverted from passionate and hot headed to level headed and introspective, Shadow going from a complex anti-hero to a generic edgelord, Sonic himself having an odd hero complex, etc. Ian Flynn is generally overall a good writer and I enjoy a lot of his work, and I generally think a lot of the hate directed at him from the Sonic community is overblown. However, I do take issue with his willingness to insert his own ideological preferences over remaining faithful to the source material. He did this a tiny bit in the Mega Man Archie comics but it has only gotten worse in his deeper involvement with the Sonic franchise since Sonic Frontiers.
