There’s little doubt that voice work on Mega Man: Dual Override is already underway. Dr. Light, voiced by Doug Stone, can be briefly heard in the live version of the reveal trailer. Now, it appears we may have both further confirmation of ongoing voice production and an early hint at a returning fan-favorite character, thanks to an unexpected source.
Following Dual Override’s announcement, Rockman Corner reader HCHecxz shared a story on our Discord about a December 6th meet-and-greet with Matt Hill, known to us as the voice of Bass.EXE in Mega Man NT Warrior. During the event, Hill made a vague comment to “keep an eye out for a new game.” While he did not reference any specific project or role, the comment has sparked some speculation given his past association with Bass.

It is worth noting that Capcom brought Matt Hill back to reprise his role as Bass.EXE in the mobile trading card game Teppen in December 2024. Those voice lines can be heard here. The classic series incarnation of Bass has not had an English voice actor since 1996, so it is possible Capcom may have asked Hill to step in for that role as well. If so, it would not be unprecedented, as Keiko Nemoto previously voiced both Bass.EXE and the classic version of the character in Mega Man X DiVE.
Dual Override has already teased the return of Proto Man through his iconic whistle at the end of the reveal trailer. With that in mind, this does make you wonder if Bass be making a return as well.
With Dual Override not due until 2027, it may be a minute before we can say for sure. We'll keep an ear to the ground!

ReplyDeleteIt's always possible he was brought on to voice another character outright, but, it is a good set of circumstantial evidence.
ReplyDeleteLet's hope they drop the Bass design sooner than later. I'm really itching to see what he and Proto Man will look like!
ReplyDeleteI have commented before in another post, and with this announcement, I think chances that Kotobukiya Model is actually an upgraded Super Bass are very high.
ReplyDeleteIf you think about it, that mysterious model even has the symbol of gears on the back. That and what could be wings reinforce even more the idea.
I really hope this is true. It'll truly suck if Bass gets shafted a third time. As irritated as I was that he was left out of Mega Man 9 and 11 (again, with the worse explanation imaginable in the case of the latter), being left out of a few games wouldn't be nearly as much of an issue if most installments didn't have a damn-near ten-year gap between them. That's what makes it so unacceptable to me.

ReplyDeleteI would like for it to be true; but I'm not holding out any hope (laugh) I wonder if it will be true~ I feel that this title is to introduce new people to the series moreso; so maybe there will be a Bass cameo...
ReplyDeleteHot take: I hope Bass is in the game, but only as an enemy, not playable. All these games with Bass begrudgingly teaming up with Mega Man cheapen his character. His ultimate goal is to defeat Mega Man, let him work towards that goal for once!
ReplyDeleteI don't see why they can't do both. They could simply take a cue from some games like Mega Man X5, for example, where both X ande Zero were playable characters and still fought one another as bosses. The same can easily be done for Mega Man and Bass' roles in Dual Override.

DeleteMaybe… but I’d like him to not betray Wily too. It’s hard to justify fighting the same Robot Masters and still being on Wily’s side. Though I’d still rather have that than the full-on “Bass needs to teach Wily a lesson again!” like in 10 and the fighting games.

ReplyDeleteIt's entirely possible he could be referring to Dual Override or something else, but it's also not impossible he isn't aware the Teppen update has been live for about a year. It's not a hugely popular game and he's admittedly not the most plugged into the news about things.
