Original Mega Man Legends Concept Art Preserved by Video Game History Foundation

As part of their on-going efforts to digitize and preserve video game history, the Video Game History Foundation has released a collection of Mega Man Legends concept art that may pique your interest.

Though a couple have appeared in various Japan-exclusive publications over the years, this marks the first time these images featuring Mega Man Volnutt, Roll, Tron, Teisel, Data and Servbots are being presented in their original, raw form. Some notably catch the eye—like Mega Man Volnutt's piece, which is a rougher iteration of the one depicted in Rockman DASH Great Adventure Guide.

"These come from a folder of Mega Man Legends artwork that, based on the file names, seems to predate the game’s English localization," writes VGHF's Frank Cifaldi. "The Servbots are referred to as “Lemon Heads,” while your sidekick Roll Caskett is just named “Girl.” Rude!

You can check out all these pieces directly at the Video Game History Foundation. They're planning to unveil more game history treasures throughout December, so it might be worth signing up for their newsletter while you're there.

  9. Funny. You'd think they started with the idea that they would put a "Roll" character, then design Roll Caskett based on that.

    1. She is called Roll Caskett in the artwork itself. I don't know why the file names were like that. Maybe they were named hastily and without much thought.

    2. I wonder what's the file name of Tron Bonne's artwork.
