Rockman X DiVE's DiVE Festival Brings Eratoeir Next Week

Over the past few months, Droitclair and Angepitoyeir became playable characters. And now it's their eldest sister's turn —Eratoeir.  Her design breaks away from the typical Rockman mold, with striking proportions and vivid colors that will leave no one indifferent.

Find all the details after the break!

Eratoeir's first active skill is Sacred Seal. It releases a huge sacred seal that will deal continuous damage to targets within range, providing enhanced damage and defense.

Her second active skill is Divine Summoning. It releases long range divine spirits. One of the skill cards will increase damage and reduce damage taken.

As always with these sort of character showcases, it's difficult to get the full picture. But we can deduce that she has skills that will weaken the rival and she can heal herself too.

As a side note, the trailer shows a new PvP stage and confirms that Eratoeir's voice actress is Kikuko Inoue. She doesn't need an introduction but for the unfamiliar, Inoue is a very popular on-screen actress, singer and voice actress from Japan. From Ranma to Death Stranding, she's done pretty much everything.

And with this, the sixth original Rockman X DiVE character has become playable. What original character will be next?

  1. Wow, to think that she's the only one who looks close to a megaman character. If she had armor on her chest, she'd actually look like a reploid.

Stupid name and huge boobs aside, I actually like her design the most out of all three characters who came before.

    1. Even if you dislike it, the site is totally allowed to post about it cause it is a megaman game, despite questionable stuffs like these new characters.

Look buddy, i totaally get your distaste. I don't like them either. They stuck like a sore thumb when you put them alongside dudes like sigma, or massimo, or even ferham, but i try to pretend they don't exist so i can keep enjoying the other good parts of the game, which is having cool 3d models of actual megaman characters. Like the 4 guardians, who never had proper good 3d models till now (assuming phantom and fefnir will be added eventually).

Not everything needs to be terrible y'know?

    2. the site posts about rockman crossovers with other mobile games, and really anything remotely related to rockman (especially seeing how little there is concerning the blue bomber these days), so covering X dive is definitely fair game.

  5. Nice body, but how the hell does this or most of dive pertain to actual Megaman? The last few years is damn weird with so called MM these days. Why have so many shows and game series either gone to shit these days or just died the past 2 decades? Wake me up when or if we actually get sequels to games we want vs this distraction. Also I agree with the unknown above... No need to keep posting about it. Shrap is probably with me here too. Most of us with taste and who are MM fans don't care. How long is this gonna go on? Damn bored of it. How about something interesting, like a ZX3 and fighting a model Weil (Vile) possessed Thomas, or fighting the Elder system and the unknown main antagonist of a Legends 3, or potentially battling Wily's viral self in a later X game? Even a MM12 is fine with me. Is that too much to ask? Geez. Feels good to complain about it though.

Let's hope capcom has the balls and care to read my feedback (many others' too) here over the past 2 or 3 years. Capcom, this isn't what we want. Go real MM or just stop already. No need to embarrass yourselves further because you ran out of ideas.

    1. what do you mean another X game? the X series ended with the PS1 ;)
as far as i know, both ZX games and the collection sold pretty badly, so i doubt we're getting a ZX3 anytime soon, sadly.
      12 would be nice, though.

    2. Well I for one like Mega Man X Dive. Is it perfect? Maybe not. But it's a Mega Man game that adds new content pretty much every month. I wish the classic series had a robot master simply named Water Man. I wish there was a sequel to Mega Man Powered Up where you can play as the robot masters from Mega Man 2. I wish Crash Man had a net navi counterpart. But I don't work at Capcom. And until that rumored Mega Man game comes out this year, this is our chance to prove Capcom that people still about Mega Man. If you don't like mobile games, then get it on PC or wait till it comes out on a real system like the switch.

    3. Cry more. XDive is the only thing keeping the series alive right now. I find it hilarious how you fail to see it or how arrogant you are to tell them what to do. They should keep reporting this because as much as you'd like to pretend otherwise, this is Mega Man news and content.

    4. Being honest? MM12 is much more possible due to legends3 being more niche, and i think zx will be forever stuck in the limbo, as inti creates went on to do their own saga of megaman-inspired games. Unless capcom themselves asked to do a zx 3 that is.

      Delete
    5. I could see them giving ZX to WayForward if Inti doesn't wanna do it.

    6. Yeah, as a customer, I can tell them what to do or they won't get a another cent from me and they can risk going out of business if they keep it up. How does that sound? Don't be an ass with your tone with me, mr unknown that should have said nothing at all. Got nothing constructive or nice to say to me vs your ad hominens, don't say anything to me at all else I just defend myself. Sounds like some people around here (going by unknown is very non-legit, and like Shrap says, best not to waste time unknowns) weren't alive when Megaman was big and always on the big screen to boot. Maybe better it just ended while it was ahead vs being this nonsense? Keeping it alive? As a gacha game for years. really nice. It isn't alive. Spoken like someone who never grew up with MM. Were you even born? Go play some real MM games in the collections to experience what it is all about vs acting like you are too young to remember what it was like, mr unknown. MM doesn't seem alive to me. Go up your standards vs supporting gacha nonsense, and ideally, watch your tone with me and don't post below me unless you got something nice to say to me and logical too.

What this does is likely ruin it for those of us who want actual MM, not keep it alive. All I see for 3 years is endless non-canon gacha nonsense. Stop supporting it and killing any hope of legit MM games and ruining it for the rest of us. You are encouraging them to never stop with this non-MM stuff, Mr unknown. Keeping it alive my ass. Yeah, in this form.

Guess what, I will keep complaining or quote 'cry more' until they get their shit together. Maybe get their attention eventually. Good. Stop being content with low quality nonsense and ruining it for real fans. That is what's arrogant. You are sending a message to capcom that it is ok to stick to just this, hence all we get is this for 3 years. Thanks a lot. What is laughable is you are content with low quality stuff. Do us a favor and stop that and stop killing any hope of future sequels.

    7. Yeah, I agree with Gary Daniel. I love megaman and this isnt what megaman about. It's more than just gacha and waifu bait bs. It's more than just Ara ara, it was about fun and exciting adventure with the conflict and Reploid vs Maverick in the middle.
I just wish the new game come out already.

    8. Yeah, it can wear on us over time. I sounded a little irritable partially because of that + I felt personally attacked, so I went off. I was complaining but initially not trying to make it personal to anyone. Just venting a little. I bought the collections and MM11 and supported it (got them on Steam), and it sold well, so I am baffled that they didn't keep their word about how X9 would depend on how well MM11 and the collections did. They did amazing in sales. I know Taisen is coming (maybe), but at this point, I lost hope that it isn't just some fighting spin off smash bros style. Taisen isn't called X9 or the like. Taisen means war or fight something. I guess we can always hope.

    9. Yeah, I understand. I feel the same way like you do. I just wish Taisen come out already but who knows? DMC5 was made in 4 years and it was amazing. Taisen has seen 4 years of development plus delay from the pandemic so I'm expecting something close to dmc5 level.

    11. the fact is, this game makes bank for capcom. it's a weird canon where the games exist as games, and the game data is messed up, and you're supposed to fix it or something, but even the plot of dive was kinda forgotten by dive. it's just a fun something about mega man. I personally hope it keeps doing well enough so that we get 3D models of all the enemies and mavericks from the first 4 X games, so they can just tweak the engine and remake the first 4 games with a coherent plot, kinda like they tried with MHX.

I can see them doing that, as it would really wouldn't take that much effort to do, as a LOT of content from X1 is already in Xdive. maverick wise, we're just missing mandril, armadillo and octopus I think, along with Drex for the sigma bosses. heck, they could even release X1 as DLC for Xdive. it would take some work to tweak the engine a bit, but not even that much. They can just leave classic X playable. it'd even be cool if they later add the other X games and make more characters playable in that mode, and allow these playable characters to be used in any of the games.

I could see them adding more characters, and making more characters a bit more relevant, like mac and green biker dude, and even making dynamo appear in the first game.

    12. Yeah, I wouldn't mind a remake with better graphics of X1 through X8 on steam, and of course X9, etc. Unlikely, but a nice thought.

    14. Lol that's fine by me. I can take whatever tone I want. Can't stand the heat, don't step into the kitchen. This is a public space, and while I can understand your frustration, crying about xdive won't change anything. Hate it as much as you'd like, but it's here to stay and is basically the only thing keeping the franchise alive.

    15. Ah, look, unknown changed his name to start more conflict and wants the last word, And I can return the tone right back at you if you make it personal, or if possible delete the thread. I wonder if hitting the delete button on the top would do that. On FB, I remove threads too. I might try that if back and forth uncivil nonsense keeps up. It might only remove my comment, or the entire thread. I should test that here someday. BTW, like I said in another post here:

"I wouldn't call this keeping MM alive. This is just keeping this never ending gacha game alive. If MM is so weak that it needs this to even have attention or be quote and quote alive, then it is already dead. If it's alive, the success of MM11 and the collection should be spawning a few sequels by now. It does not take long to make relatively low budget MM games, so there is no excuse 4 years later and still nothing, and covid shouldn't be a huge issue because modders for games can make stuff and send it via the internet and video conference, etc, so surely devs can too. This isn't the 90s. We can do a lot without it being in person."

    16. @Gary Daniel

the problem is that capcom is only concerned with highly profitable projects. they have limited resources (personel, equipment, space, etc) and they want to invest their resources on projects with the highest roi. it doesn't take much effort to make a mega man game, but if it's not good, it can lose money, and if it IS good, it won't make much of a profit.

X dive makes money, and if it makes a lot of money, it can justify making smaller low budget titles by introducing more characters to release in X dive. they could give us a MM12 with a beat and tango adapter for proto and roll respectively to give us 2 brand new S rank characters in X dive for example. They could introduce the rockman killers again and put them in X dive. they could even save money by sharing the models and VA work between games

capcom didn't have monster hunter and resident evil 4 in the 90s. capcom has grown since then, and they decided they want to go for more heavy hitters. They do have a few random small releases here and there for a few iconic series for seemingly no reason, like a new ghost and ghouls game. They love releasing collections though.

it's easy to make the small games, but those games are guaranteed to not be breakout successes. they can only offer mild success.

I don't see where you get that Taisen wouldn't be worth it. They want to make big budget games that sell on spectacle and could result in a huge profit. more risk, more reward. they don't care as much about the hardcore niche audience as they do the general masses. if the general masses see the game with the high production value animations, they'll get hyped for the game and it'll sell well regardless of whether the hardcore fans like it or not. just like how X dive doesn't really rely on catering to the hardcore mega man audience, and caters more to whomever the whales may be.

    20. while MM11 and the collections may have "done well", they might not have done "well enough". then again, you never know, there could be an X9 in the works, but with the history of mega man cancellations, they're not announcing anything until it's close to release. you never know. could also be that no one in the company wants to work on an X game.

      wtf is "ferengi"?

and if MM11 sold more than any other MM game, and still wasn't enough? Yeah, they could keep the fans happy, but they likely don't care much for a nich fanbase when they have monster hunter and mobile games. whether it's the right business decision or not, who knows? the fact is, capcom leadership decided to do things this way. there are plenty of IPs they own that have just fallen by the wayside, like breath of fire.

greed is what motivates humanity to greatness. if we had all our basic necessities met, there wouldn't even be a mega man, as people would pretty much just sit around lazily doing nothing. there'd be a few people who are passionate who would take on projects themselves, but then you'd be in mega man X corrupted limbo. maybe you'd get a new game once every 20 years. you'd have hundreds of game designers, but like 5 programmers.

the truth of the matter is, big companies don't cater to the niche, and indies are where we can get our needs met. it's the beauty of the cycle. companies become to big, forget the base that made them successful, small company caters to niche, becomes successful while old big company crumbles, rinse and repeat. it allows newcomers to grow and stand tall.

    26. you still need people to program the machines and maintain them. UBI, which is now being proven, just makes people not work and watch netflix. people will just sit at home and watch TV and play video games all day. the retired folk with hobbies and self improvement are products of capitalism, and thus just have that habit of needing to do something.

people on welfare already are provided housing and food on the taxpayer dime, yet they accomplish and create nothing. they have all the time in the world, and can self improve all they want with no responsibilities to hold them down. they end up being the most obese people in every country they are in.

utopian more often than not is actually distopian.

    30. I'm all for automation. but automation fails sometimes, and you need people to fix the machines at some point. you can have fixing the machines automated, but then you need energy to keep the autorepair systems on 24/7. renewables like solar and wind are unrelaible, and become more unreliable in some places more than others. I suppose nuclear could be an option, but even then, that's a LOT of energy to consume. and even if the autorepair system exists, it could malfunction, and you would need a system to repair the repair system.

everything CAN fail at once, and for multiple reasons. you need people who can repair machinery, debug code, create new code, and invent new machines for problems we have down the road. you will always need skilled laborers, and that work will be difficult. under UBI, if people are living comfortably, most people would not want to put in the work and effort to do so. an example of this is fitness. people in the USA don't starve or worry about food (not yet anyway), and the majority are overweight and unhealthy. people have the time to self-sacrifice, especially when on welfare and not working, to achieve fitness and an extremely healthy body, but most people do not, becuase people avoid hard work, because it's hard. unless their situation brings about more pain than the pain of the hardwork.

The roman empire collapsed shortly after applies their version of UBI, it doesn't work, it relies too much on producers and keeping them in the country, and relies too much on consumers being responsible with their money, which as we can see with the stimulous checks and eviction moritorium, that no one did anything to better their lives with that free money and free housing.

And as automation removes jobs, more skilled jobs becomes available. for example, a farmer, if you automate farming, so we no longer need farmers, food becomes very cheap, so these farmers could instead open a restaurant, and sell prepared food. we can automate restaurants, but cooking has infinite variations, and people can make unique food that automated kitchens cannot do.

      Delete

    31. The big problem with UBI is, where does this "income" come from? money doesn't just appear out of the aether, and printing money just causes inflation. if there is a system with 100 people, with $100 in circulation, if you print $100 to give to everyone in the system, while there is $200 in the system, it's still worth the same as that $100, but now it takes $2 to buy what it cost $1 for before. Printing money for UBI makes everyone who is holding money's money become worth less, discouraging people from saving money. just like now, how massive inflation is leading people to buy hedges against inflation such as property and gold, if you have UBI, people will just start using alternative currencies to buy goods.

even if farming were automated, there is a limit to how much food can be produced, as there are also factors such as weather conditions causing lower yields. when supply is lower, prices rise as a natural economic rationing system. if you put price controls, then you put companies out of business as the cost of production grows higher than the revenue earned. Automation will make the costs of goods SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper, but it won't eliminate all costs, as you still need people to work with the automated systems, and you will always need that, as stated earlier, things can fail. we've already automated very simple systems, like cash registers and ordering food. There are still bugs in those systems, self checkout registers are often down, online sites have errors from time to time. This doesn't even account for malicious destruction.

So, where must this UBI come from? well, you'd have to take it from people, pretty much at gunpoint. you'd be taxing the people who produce in order to give their money to everyone else. if UBI is available to everyone, you must tax someone more than the UBI in order to give themselves back their own money, along with giving someone else their money.

for example, again, the system that has 100 people and $100 in it. well, everyone at the start has $1. let's say that the farms and stores and such are all state owned and automated, so, money spent of food goes to the government, which it can then give back as UBI. congrats, you now have bread lines. imagine the DMV, but for bread. the government has no insentive to vary the food, or even make it taste good, because you have no options, so they go for the cheapest food possible. now you're eating bugs (ground to resemble meat products), and you have water. let's say it costs 20 cents a month for food, so UBI needs to be 20 cents per person, so $20 in UBI a month.

Now, as someone who has been a poor college student who donated plasma to have ramen, people can reduce their food expendatures in order to use that money elsewhere. so, you can end up in situations where people spend more or less than $20 total a month on food. so now, the government (lets assume is AI and runs itself, thus there are no costs for running the government nor national defense) will have to tax everyone extra money to account for this, so everyone is taxed 5 cents. now, 5 of these people are game designers, and they created a game that people want to play, but it costs $1. Now, if someone spends their whole $1 on this game, they now have no money for food, nor money for the tax, and the 5 people who made the game now have $1.20 each. now, you have $19.80 from people buying food, and $9.90 for taxes. that's still enough to cover the UBI, but if enough people spend their money unwisely, you can end up with not enough for this $20 UBI, and as the people who made the game make more money, eventually, everyone just has that 20 cents UBI while the 5 people have like $16 each.

      Delete
    32. unless you can control what people spend the UBI on, the system doesn't work like this, in which case, you're better off just giving ration tickets, in which nepotism steps in and the people with more political power will get more ration tickets anyway, because that's how people are.

the only other solution is to tax people more if they make more, which discourages people from making more. UBI relies on enslaving the producers, the 1%. Then then leave to somewhere less developed where they can keep their money and power (ruling in hell vs serving in heaven)

Capitalism is private property, money is property, so it would mean people owning their money. socialism and communism involves the resources not belonging to the individual. yes, we have a mixed system, because pure capitalism ends up failing due to government intervention more often than not. Most monopolies are caused by government regulation, like how they gave big grocery monopolies by shutting down small businesses for the sake of not letting people gather in a small space and making everyone gather together in a large area instead.

    33. Crime has nothing to do with any of this. in the USA, no one is at risk of starvation. crime isn't related to hunger, as you can literally walk into a convenience store and eat food, go to jail, and get fed by the state. crime is typically done for drugs and luxury goods, or just someone got angry at someone else. crime rising is more related to lax law enforcement. Singapore has very little crime, but also has a big disparity between the rich and the poor. they beat you with bamboo rods for chewing gum. CHEWING GUM. imagine what they do for robbery or assault!

again, very idealic thinking, relying on human good will, ignoring supply and demand. had we infinite energy and infinite resources, then your utopia could exist, but because we live in a world of finite time and resources, it can never be.

also, collapse is on the way, pretty close too in most of the world. we have a global energy crisis, stagflation, possibly hyperinflation if the world drops the petrodollar, the wellfare system running out of money, a housing collapse. Printing money is basically gonna collapse the global economy. so while this automated utopia would be nice, we're more likely to enter a new dark age with rolling blackouts and such.

people were not better off in the 60s. they made more objective money, but everything cost more. in the 60s, they had smaller homes, maybe 1 TV, and a single family car. today, the typical household has multiple cars, multiple TVs, and larger homes. we have been automating things. automation does reduce labor demand which causes wages to stagnate, but it also reduces the cost of living. While we make less, we have more, and the wages that are the lowest are the ones that already need to be automated.

    38. I have nothing against changing the work-week. 40 hours and 5 days isn't especially ideal, as they've found more idillic schedules that result in greater productivity. people should also be allowed to work more hours and profit more. for a business owner, 40 hours would be luxurious, as they easily put double that, especially when starting the business, and remain on call.

while I'm fine with changing the workweek, ending child labor and making minimum wage was a mistake. you took away all ability for children to help with the family or get a head start financially. Child labor was ended because children were being exploited in dangerous jobs. there's no reason why a child who is able and willing can't work a job they can accomplish. instead of preventing them from working, we should just protect them at work.

when I was a teenager, I hated that I could only work so many hours a week, and only until so late, made saving for college all the harder.

and minimum wage just makes less jobs, and puts more work on those jobs that remain. example, there used to be a job for just cleaning bathrooms in places. it payed well below minimum wage to be a bathroom attendant, but it was a job nonetheless, which is better than having no job. minimum wage erased that job, because it wasn't worth paying someone minimum wage to just do that, yet bathrooms still needed to be cleaned, so what happened instead is that the employees getting paid minimum wage had a more stressful job with more responsibilities. you had fewer employees, responsible for more tasks, thus making demand for labor smaller, making less jobs available for the dim and incapable (someone who didn't speak english could easily clean bathrooms, but they can't clean bathrooms AND run the register in places where customers only speak english). most jobs require some math skills, but people with absolutely no math skills have nothing available now, because all the jobs were combined.

worse thing is, minimum wage increases the cost at the lowest skilled labor level, which generally revolves around commondities. people who work around food and energy for example, like gas station attendants who no longer exist thanks to minimum wage (which also makes gas stations less safe). this increases the cost for businesses selling these goods, which raises the price of basic goods. you pay the people at the bottom more, but increase their bills by just as much, which ends up not helping them at all, and just makes everyone else poorer!

    39. ending slavery? what is slavery? is it not when you force someone to work, and make them work with no compensation? so, if you make the rich run their company and take 50% of their money to pay everyone else BI, then the majority is basically enslaving them for 50% of the time they work.

while taxation is necessary for the government to function, government should really only be involved in enforcing and protecting borders, as well as protecting people's property, and keeping the peace.

    40. "Well the past 40 years, costs of living has been going up faster on housing, rent, healthcare, and education more than incomes."

costs of housing goes up because of zoning, and the government not building more houses. this is because boomer homeowners don't want the value of their nesteggs to go down. healthcare is more expensive because less people are dying from working in factories, so more people become elderly, and people live such sedentary and unhealhty lives. we have a lot more diabetics than we did 40 years ago, and it's all because of the individual's choices and how cheap food is. education is completely free (except for taxes). you just pay for university, but most people go there for useless degrees or should be going for a cheaper affordable education. instead of going 10's of thousands into debt, apply for scholarships, go to community college while working part time.

The cost of college goes up because the government throws student loans everywhere. if the government will pay however much a university charges, the university will charge more. once again, welfare and big government ruining things.

another factor is inflation. we give the rich tax breaks (also the middle class) because of inflation. we print money and raise inflation, then adjust the tax brackets for the wealthy for inflation, because there is this economic concept known as the laffer curve. there is a point where if you raise taxes, you make less revenue. this is a very simple concept to exemplify. if you could work an easy job for up to 40 hours and keep 100% of your earnings, how many hours would you work? now if you were taxed 100% of your earings, how many hours? most people don't want to work for free, so likely 0 hours. so somewhere between 0% taxes and 100% taxes, people stop working their desired maximum and head towards that 0 hours.

Most people in the USA don't actually pay net taxes. yes, they pay taxes at some point in time, but they are given more money by the system than they put in, so in essence, most people don't pay taxes.

    41. raising tax on companies who automate is a guaranteed way to stop automation. the reason why companies are automating now, like how mcdonald's now has ordering booths, is because minimum wage is pricing people out of a job. people are becoming more expensive than automation. Automation though, requires a high initial investment, and is only accessible to large companies. minimum wage is part of crony capitalism, and big corporations love using it to smother small businesses.

but, if you tax people more for automating, that's a big risk there, because automation requires taking in a huge amount of debt. the idea when a company automates is the profit will eventually cover the automation equipment in like 10 years. if you tell me that by automating, I'm not going to be making more money, but I still have the same risk of failure and a greater possibility of bankruptcy, I'm not going to automate, I'll just hire fewer people and make them do more.

it's easy to look at a corporation that made 20 billion dollars in profit last year and hold your hand out and say "where's my share?", but when the same corporation has a 10 billion dollar loss this year, are you gonna give them money to cover those losses? yeah, but you'll still want them to pay that increased tax on revenue. remember, REVENUE is taxed, not profit. even if they suffere a 10 billion dollar loss, they're still paying taxes on all the revenue they made. and automation has a continuous cost. you need to upgrade software, upgrade hardware, protect your investments (people damaging your equipment) etc.

TAXING more for something makes less of that something. if you raise the tax on gas, people drive less. if you tax cigarettes more, people smoke less. it's basic economics.

if you subsidize something, you get more of it. subsidize growing soy and corn, and you get more corn and soy farmers. subsidize people eating, people will eat more.

    42. really, because elon musk thinks it's a good idea? just like the hyper loop eh? how about starlink's failing business plan? the guy has a lot of money, but he also has a lot of very stupid ideas. BI is very idealistic and utopian, in reality, it's just not feasible. just like every other top down government program, it always causes more harm than good.

try listening to some Thomas Sowell: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPZU2GloZQU

everyone you link are people who just want BI for themselves, and talk about idealically, talking about all the benefits to human life. that's fine and all, but it's just not feasible and would do more harm than good

    43. I work as a programmer, my job requires me to sit. I can still get up and walk around, and still have time in the day to workout and exercise. my office also has a gym. There are many jobs that don't require sitting for long periods of time, office jobs are just the safest/easiest. you can work with oil in alaska and get a lot of exercise and get paid well. we really need that right now. people just want to go for what's easiest, and that's the problem with people, and why your idealistic ideas won't work.

most people don't like challenges, most people want to sit at home and binge netflix, as seen by that being what most people actually do. look at mega man. it's not all that popular, and the more challenging the game, the less popular it is. MM11 was one of the easiest games yet, and it was super popular. most games that are the most popular are the least challenging, and are basically movies with minor input. people don't want challenges, they want to feel good, that's why so many people do drugs, because it's instant gratification.

as you take jobs that require more skill, you make more money, as you make more money, you need to work less. as people focus more on skilled labor, rather than unskilled labor, they get to work less as they'll make more money. automation in tandem with competition willl bring prices down, thus making it so you don't have to work as much. the problem though, is the hedonic treadmill. if you lived like people lived in the 1950, you can easily afford it on minimum wage. you get some roommates, get a landline, have no internet, no cable, and cook modest meals for yourself, depending on coupons and such. but, people don't want to live like that, they want the latest iPhone, a beefy rig to play the newest games, high speed cable internet, their own car, their own house. when I was in college, I was living with roommates on minimum wage, paying for food, housing and school. I could have saved more money and avoided loans if I just stayed at home with the folks and went to community college instead. you just need the paper, that's all.

    44. so if you establish a global police state, and keep producers from leaving, you either get a black market, or the producers stop producing. they've done all kinds of examples to show how it doesn't work in classrooms with grades. if points are taken from the best achievers so that nobody fails, everyone stops achieving because the extra work isn't worth it. business owners work like 80 hours a week. it takes dedication to run a business. you have to deal with a lot of stress, like people not coming in to work, hiring, firing, investors, lawsuits, etc. everyone will work less and just rely on the BI, because why not? you won't die, and you can pass your time with liesure activities like drugs and intercourse.

building your own PC is expensive, that's like top 20% living right there. would you be so inclined to live the same lifestyle if you were taxed 20% of your income so that someone who isn't working doesn't have to worry about food? if you couldn't afford to build your PC, would you be motivated to produce? you have the weights already, and you can do cardio, why wouldn't you just live off BI and just focus on your health? just spend your time working out and grooming yourself, and go have intercourse all day? why not?

    51. "the rat race" is something pretty exclusive to the US and Japan primarily. Europe has a saying "in america, you live to work, here we work to live". in europe, without and long before automation, depending on the country, everything closes around noon for a few hours were people get to go relax before returning to work. they work significantly less and live more. europe also has more small businesses and public transportation. really, the solution for what you want is really going to europe.

and about jobs being more difficult. creating a video game today is 100x easier than it was 20 years ago. you can make money making online videos about pretty much nothing. while technology gets rid of the easiest jobs, it makes all the harder jobs easier.

take programming. programming to is much easier than it was 30 years ago. you have software that tells you when you're doing something wrong, high level languages, tons of libraries and frameworks. early coders had to do so much more, and couldn't compile regularly and such. it also opens up the world to new jobs. you could have a job where you just sit and listen to someone talk, because people will have disposable income for such a thing, and everything else will be automatic or dirt cheap. it's ironic that such a futurist looks at "jobs" so statically.

there will always be jobs that cannot be automated, or are too expensive to automate, mostly in the service industry. and less intelligent people can accomplish a lot, don't underestimate them. they just have to work harder than most, but most crafts just take practice. you don't have to be a genius to be a repairman, you just need to go through training.

    52. while you say that many economists agree with you about BI, many also agree with me on BI. having money doesn't make you an authority, and we've seen musk and zuckerberg fail miserably with endeavors. zuckerburg is completely failing to revitalize facebook with the "meta" scheme and can't get that young audience, Musk has just as many bad ideas as good ideas. furthermore, about musk, he's not particularly smart or anything, he just has money and invests in other people's ideas or companies. Yang is just a politician.

The best thing is to actually study economics and look how things panned out historically. the industrial revolution was yesterday's automation. many jobs were lost, and you had luddites fighting to protect people and fought against advancement, because they insisted the people couldn't adapt. but we can see that it did. we've seen the negative and positive results of top down reform and taxing the rich more. we've seen every one of those ideas before, because they're nothing new, and we've seen how they effect things.

What has pretty much always worked the best is letting the market work it's magic, i.e., leaving things alone. most if not all professional economists will not agree with this, because to be a professional economist, no one wants to pay you to tell them to do nothing. But if you look at actual economics, and look at history, the road to hell is always paved with good intentions.

Every government attempt at "protecting the people" through such reforms has done nothing but cause problems.

I mean, even if they're not the only ones, petina is probably just happy about it pissing off americans specifically, and doesn't care so much about how other peoples react to it.

and they're probably happy that it pisses off the american puritans, as we americans seem the be the most puritanical peoples in the world outside of maybe parts of the middle east.

      Delete
    4. @erik I know. Doesn't make it intelligent. Your also forgetting a tiny little country called China.

Also, there is quite a hefty amount of puritans all over the world. Even in Japan. You just don't see it. The UN for all its value is going after anime.

      Delete
    5. there are various degrees of puritanism. pornography is completely banned in south korea, and banned in various ways westerners would think bizarre in most of southeast asia.

China isn't as puritanical, as they make genshin impact, and japan is the main place that gives the world fanservice. Most of the world is absolutely fine with showing breasts, and don't consider it a big deal. the USA though takes puritanism to a new level. the censorship in japan when it comes to naughty bits is actually because of western influence, and censorship in anime is led mostly by california with sony becoming a california company and pretty much pushing western progressive puritanism onto the east.

China is just traditionalist, and wants to push traditional gender roles right now, but they're not obsessed with censoring the female form, they just censor political things and spiritualism.

      Delete
    6. I'll concede China. However, they are cracking down on that so you can have your waifu for an hour or two a week.

and yes, california doesn't exist in a bubble, but thats where all the company headquarters are that are actively trying to get rid of any and all fan service. companies move HQ to california, and they go super anti-fanservice.

europe isn't as puritanical, as they show bare breasts and softcore pornography on normal television. I was an exchange student in germany once upon a time, and in their gaming magazines, they had advertisements for images to buy for your cell phone by texting a number, and there'd be images of exposed breasts available, in a video game magazine.

they DO censor the heck out of violence, but that's nothing to do with puritany.

I dont think they are going for low budget megaman game. I think Taisen is gonna be pretty big.

      Delete
    9. They an do both. If they do something high budget like Taisen, better if it was a Legends 3 since high budget is no doubt gonna be 3D gameplay but sadly probably not what we all want with main timeline sequels. I know it is unlikely, but what if they use the code word 'Taisen' to hide Legends 3 so if it was canned again, they won't get so much flak, and keep it a hidden name until it is imminent? A nice thought.

      Delete
    10. @Gary Daniel
I can't imagine they'd go big budget for a legends 3, as the legends series was never very popular. Taisen will probably be a high budget scenamatic experience of some sort that will be very casual friendly and probably will ot play anything like the games we know and love. I don't have high expectations for it.

Also, X dive DOES have a story, although a strange and poorly translated one.
what you saw was a raid boss, which is an alternate mode of the game, where you and everyone else in your server are trying to do as much damage as you can within the time limit, so you won't defeat it. There is a story mode in the game, which gets updated every now and then. there are a bunch of different modes, most of which have nothing to do with the story.

story more or less is that you exist as the player of the mega man games, and Rico manages the archive of the games or something like that. some sort of virus has messed up the data from the games, so you control an avatar and play X dive to fix the data. The original characters in the game are involved somehow in a way that will probably not be revealed before the servers eventually shut down forever. I'd say it's kinda comparable to Xtreme 1.

the gameplay isn't great, but it's not terrible either, it's an enjoyable platformer with a decently faithful engine. it has options ot make it play very much like a classic X game, but it's not designed around that, and you're really just handicapping the heck out of yourself.

  14. Capcom, just give us a game so people start whining about something else. I hate the gacha style games mostly because it makes archival almost impossible. But I'm fairly neutral to this game, it's not like we'll start seeing these original characters in a main game. This game is supposed to be made in a way so it caters to a new audience because at Capcom they are too lazy to break the formula of Mega Man games and try something new with them (Like making something that is not a game that has more than 12 stages and you can complete in a couple of hours). I personally doubt this is really aimed to the hardcore Mega Man fan (Because those barely exist in places like Japan) and because of it's content. Even then I think it could probably help the higher ups to think the franchise is profitable.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The logical fallacy is Capcom doesn't need to cater to a new audience. They never did. What should have happened is they build and expand the core audience and invite new players to join in. You never, EVER change your product and expect your customer to just go along with it. That almost never works. Note they dont with Street Fighter...

Look at Mario and Zelda. They adapted it into 3D, but kept the core of it the intact. They made little changes. Mario in a golf game. Mario in an RPG. Etc. Capcom never did that, no matter what people think or spin it. They came up with new everything, slapped a Mega Man (tm) on it, and expected fans to gobble it up. You got some original fans who got into it (even me in some cases), some people who think THAT is what Mega Man is (sadly) and others who flat out reject it. That is not how you build anything. All it does is swap pieces around, and most of the time pieces are lost. Reminds me of New Coke, among many other examples.

BN for all it its BS was but a temporary "victory". Lasted about ten years. Burned itself out. Franchise still died.

Looking at recent articles, Capcom never had a clue what they were doing. Apparently they still dont. One can't help but laugh.

      Delete
    2. Addendum: not never, my bad. X could be considerd a little change being a direct sequel, and so on. BN, SF, Legends, Fully Charged... All New Coke.

      Delete
    3. I agree and disagree on many levels. I don't think Dive really caters to a new audience, it just caters to a LOT of mega man fans, including very casual ones, but mostly X fans, as the engine is very much a mega man X game (pretty nice engine aside from eaten inputs and some weird collision detection here and there).

I disagree about making new things too. Mario and Zelda have 3D versions, but I wouldn't say they kept the core intact at all. I look at 2D and 3D mario/zelda as completely different serieses. what they really kept intact is the aesthetic. Mario 64 LOOKS like mario world, but in 3D, but the games don't play at all similarly. That's why mario galaxy and new super mario bros existed simultaneously on the wii and were VERY different games. I DO prefer 3D mario over 2D mario though. but with zelda, I prefer 2D zelda over 3D, and those two serieses are VERY different games.

Capcom was actually very smart about how they handled the mega man series in that respect though. typically, instead of completely changing up the series, they made a spin-off and left the core gameplay intact. I'd be super upset if classic mega man changed into what BN is and became that instead of a 2D platformer, or if X7 stayed the design for future X games.

and BN is far from burned out. you have BN inspired indies coming out and thriving, which shows that there is demand for that kind of game. A LOT of fans want more fo the same from the series, but with new challenges and new features. MM11 kept everything that made a classic game a classic game, but added an interesting new mechanic.

The only reason the serieses are dead is because capcom is only really interested in major blockbusters, instead of a smaller more consistent revenue stream from catering to a niche audience. what capcom should really do, is like sega did with whitehead, and just bring passionate developer fans (maybe megaphilX from unlimited for example) or license mega man out to indie devs for cheap and profit off merch and such. they backed SF x Mega man, which was kinda terrible. if they invested in the mega man X corrupted project, they'd pretty much revive the X series with that

    5. Fair enough. But I will always disagree bifrocating the fandom was a wise or good decision. And the BN did burn itself out. People were getting real tired of having to buy two or three redundant RPG's every year. Pokemon keeps going, BN stopped. Wonder why?

I liked BN. I still jate what it did ti the franchise. Personally I dont care if I ever see another new one ever again. Fortunately both it and SF are safely "finished"

Mario moved to 3D without having to reinvent the cast, or story, or character design. And it worked with flying colors.

      Delete
    6. pokemon keeps going and BN stopped because pokemon has a company called "the pokemon company", and all the adorable little mananimals make bank. game freak also pretty much only has pokemon. people got sick of Street Fighter, and it's still going, as is monster hunter and resident evil. street fighter, aside from new graphics and a few gameplay tweaks, is essentially the same game as street fighter II from the 90s.

the only reason why there aren't more BN games is because they've stopped making BN games, and they stopped because they started making SF. if they released a new BN game right now, people would go crazy for it, but it wouldn't make anywhere near the money monster hunter makes, or they would fill it with so many microtransactions, they'd ruin it.

yeah, mario kept everything involved with aesthetic. it's not the same game though, not the same fanbase, and definitely not the same gamefeel

      Delete
    7. Mario has succeeded at doing what Capcom cannot. Mario grew it's brand by keeping the design consistent. Mega Man is all over the place. Even the naming conventions are a mess. It was never going to reach Mario levels, so I wish Capcom would just stop trying, and go back to working with the niche target demographic that built it in the first place.

And I completely disagree that Mario 64 wasn't targeted to the same fan base. 100% disagree. That is the ONE thing Nintendo knows how to do, that makes Capcom look like pikers.

Why did they stop making BN and move to SF? Because Capcom KNEW BN ran it's course, but they still wanted to keep milking that formula. Come on... And even SF burnt it self out. Much faster than BN. Your asking me to ignore what I am clearly seeing. Because they stopped making them... Why is that? Why would they stop? There are a few reasons: Profitability, completion, loss of desire to bother. All of which were accomplished.

      Delete
    8. Capcom does it with street fighter. ryu is the same since the first game more or less. what Mario does is caters to the casual market. mario is super simple, and designed for anyone to pick up and enjoy. Mega man has been a punishing series since the first game, with MM11 being the most casual friendly classic game outside of maybe mega man 8. Mega Man X is easier than classic mega man, but the controls are more complex. mario is essentially a one button game, same with legend of zelda.

what fanbase Mario 64 targeted is irrelevant. it doesn't have the same fanbase as 2D mario. there may be some overlap, but there are plenty of people who like 3D platformers who don't like the 2D platformer games and vice versa. just because it has the same characters and setting, doesn't mean both kinds appeal to the same people. same idea behind why mega man legends is so much less popular than mega man X, and why X7 was so hated before it came out

SF is pretty much BN with a new cast and a weird 3D perspective. they pretty much stopped making classic games when mega man X started. The problem isn't that it runs it's course, it's that capcom doesn't think the roi is worth the investment. they could put a team to make a new BN/SF game, or they could put those people on the monster hunter team to make more money.

There's an indie game that's basically BN, and people are crazy about it, because they want more games like that.

the classic games never stopped until the 2010s? the GB games, 7, 8, &Bass and Battle&Chase (released internationally in the 2000s), two arcade games and two compilations of them, etc. they only died when the rest of the series died: in 2004-2006. X series died around the same timeframe, same for Zero, and then the classic series returned in 2009, after the two ZX games. not to mention Powered Up.

      Delete
    10. 7 was really the last real standard classic game after the X games. MM8 was a fun anniversary edition that was more spectacle than anything. &B was a contractual game capcom was more or less forced to make and wasn't even released internationally. the X series was the main focus there.

even the GB games were replaced by X for the gameboy color. classic series basically died in '95 if not '96. it wasn't until 2009, where the X series had basically died in '04 that they treid to bring back the X series and classic series in a failed attempt on the PSP. from '96 to '09, the classic series was pretty much dead, with tons of spin-off games released mostly japan exclusive and mostly on mobile. I wouldn't call "rockman poker" a sign of the series being alive. just like X dive isn't a sign of the X series being alive.

      Delete

8 was still a full-price multiplatform full game release and i'd like to see the source on &B being contractual, and it WAS released internationally on GBA. a lot of classic collections still got released and one cancelled, and Powered Up got quite a following to this day. Rockman Poker isn't a sign, but Battle&Chase, &B, collections and Powered Up are, especially given how many people care about Powered Up over how many care about MHX.

    12. @Sprite Recreator
8 was a full priced anniversary game that got rid of a bunch of staples, and had no damage tables. if you wish to count it, then as I said, died in '96. X4 was far more popular, in that we got a mega man X5 and X6, but no mega man 9 (until about 10 years later). X7 hurt the series a lot and X8 probably went unnoticed because of how bad X7 was, then the X series died.

huh? guess I was wrong about &B, though it seems to have originally been planned to be a port of MM8 for SNES. and it was PORTED internationally on GBA. it still wasn't released outside of japan on SNES. just like the NES games being ported to mobile, that doesn't say much about the health of the franchise. yeah, it became playable in the west, but with inferior sound and a scrunched screen. still a port of a game only released in japan. This especially hurts because there were no NEW classic games on GBA, just that port of a SNES game, while MMZ and BN were getting new games.

collections mean nothing. darkstalkers is being released in a collection this year, it's still dead as a doornail. ZX is dead and it just got a collection recently. Powered Up's following is irrelevant, the sales just weren't there and the series died then and there. isn't even available to play on anything besides PSP. at least MHX got a digital release and can be played on vita and playstation TV or whatever it was called. Rockman Rockman did get a digital release though, but even though PSP was popular in japan, still no powered up 2. MHX was also dead on arrival.

you could say that classic was dead from '96 to '06, then died again from '06 to '08, where mega man 9 revived the series, only for it to die again in '10 with MM10 and to sorta come back in '18 only to pretty much die again. depending on what taisen is, it might stay dead for another 5 years or so.

    13. @Erik the Red
X4 was a full priced anniversary game that got rid of a lot of advancements from the previous two, had more simplified level design and a bigger story focus. both games are quite different from the rest. X4 was more popular, but from what i've read sold worse than expected (because 8 and X4 had a huge budget) which is why X5 had a smaller budget, but i can't say this is fully true as i don't have a source. i'd also like to add that to my personal opinion X8 went unnoticed because i'd rather play even X7 over THAT abomination, but that's just me.

i don't remember anyone saying it was a port, either. all i know is that internally, ingame, there's an early name "ROCKMAN 8.5" or something like that, i've read about it on The Cutting Room Floor. that's about it. a port is technically a release and it's soundtrack still had both the SNES and the GBA ones included in Sound Box 2, so it definitely mattered at least a bit. plus, X didn't get a GBA game either, while Z was dead set on ending itself with either Z3 or Z4 (ended up being Z4, thankfully) while BN is something i agree with Shrap on.

how did 9 revive it if none of the things released from 1996 to 2008 did? i mean sure it was popular but by your logic it was still just a digital-only game that got a less successful sequel and then died. Powered Up at least got support with the various character costumes and levels being made. at least from 1996 to 2008 there were barely any cancelled releases for it - just the GBA collection.

X4 didn't get rid of the advancements or staples from X1-3. still had 8 mavericks, still collected armors and heart pieces, charge shot, charge weapons. all it really did was slow down the gameplay for the sake of better animations and added zero as a playable character. X4 was just another X game with better graphics. putting a bit more focus on story is not comparable to getting rid of rush coil/jet and E tanks, as well as not putting in a damage table.

regardless of how well X4 did or didn't do, we still ended up getting an X5 and X6. selling worst than expected doesn't mean it sold poorly, perhaps they had high expectations and decided fully animated cutscenes were not worth it, because that seems to be the primary difference between X4 and X5.

X8 is one of my personal favorite X games. Then again, I also like X6, which is objectively worse than X7, and hate X3 and X5. either way, X8 was a decent 2D platformer. maybe a bit gimmicky, especially with two ride chaser levels, with one barely even counting as a stage at all, but that's really no worse than X6 imo.

the X series not getting GBA games is kinda irrelevant, point is, it was getting games. MM9 revived the series because we got MM10 shortly afterwards. the series was alive again, but then died at 10 when people realized they didn't really care about 8 bit games. powered up recieved fun roll DLC, which was probably made already and just released over time, but the powered up reboot idea died with that game. we don't even get the game in rereleases.

Also, we don't know how many cancelled mega man projects there were, or at what stage of production they were cancelled, there could be a load of games cancelled that no one knows about. the GBA collection was the one that we heard of that was cancelled.

X4 heavily simplified the level design, got rid of the more complex collectible systems from X2-X3, got rid of the optional bosses, had a fortress that was more story focused with barely any level design and cut some things such as the 4 other subtanks and upwards airdash upgrade entirely. that's pretty different.

and 8 lead to &B, multiple collections and fighting games, along with classic (!) Rock and classic (!) Roll appearing in other fighting games.

i don't see how any of that makes sense, and X8 has at least 6 gimmick stages, none of which are fun, while even replaying X6 today i still realize how refreshing it is to have actual stages and not scripted gimmick fests that force me on a single path with horrible controls. plus, X6 is nice to look at and doesn't look worse than PS1 games, which might be due to how ugly X8's artstyle is. ah well, opinions are opinions, i personally love X1-X6 all, except playing X4 as armored X.

it was, and then it stopped having them at all while classic was still used for promotions, did indeed have Powered Up even if it didn't sold so well (neither did MHX) and was given far more attention than X when it was chosen which one to revive for WiiWare. besides, if 8 isn't a classic game and Powered Up doesn't count, then neither does MHX (which may have got pseudo-rereleased like once, but i've barely seen anyone care about it and from what i remember it got worse reviews too), neither does X Collection, neither does X: Command Mission, and i sure doubt X7 or X8 count if 8 doesn't, because both of them did things that were far more than removing E-Tanks and the everchanging rush accessories.

more complex collectibe systems? X2 only had zero parts, which wasn't in X3, X3 just had chips. none of those are staples. X4 still had heart tanks, energy tanks, a new weapon tank, and that 4 lives thing, along with an alternate capsule for the buster. upwards airdash was a one game gimmick until X6's blade armor. staples != one game feature. 2 energy tanks vs 4 isn't a major change either, just a big of balancing. just like how X5 having up to 16 heart upgrades isn't a "major divergence". if X4 didn't have heart containers... you know, like X8, then you could say that it was a major change. (they really like to change up staples in 8th games).

8 led to japanese exclusives, no fighting games, and ports. it didn't lead to a 9. morrigan appears in a bunch of other fighting games, absolutely no one will say that darkstalkers is alive and well because morrigan is basically a staple of marvel vs capcom. just like F-zero isn't alive just because captain falcon is a staple of smash bros.

X6 was all gimmick stages too. donut stage, crusher stage, acid rain stage, 2 second long laser redirection stage, the museum stage, gaint robot stage. spikes everywhere stage. even worse about X6, there are areas you cannot progress in without the right loadout. combine that with rescuing reploids giving you extra lives means you can end up having to kill yourself 10x whenever you hit one of those. examples are: gate stage with spikes cannot be passed without extreme exploits, jumper or an armor besides fourth armor. alt path of yamma when raining cannot be passed without air dash, gate stage cannot be passed with shadow armor without jumper and hyper dash and precise jumping, high max cannot be defeated without a special weapon, but can easily be accessed without one. Whatever you think of X7 and X8, you can beat every stage with any character.

8 IS a classic game, but it is barely a mainline game, more like a anniversary edition spin-off. Just like super adventure rockman is just a spinoff. what are you talking about with wiiware? powered up and MHX both don't count as reviving the series, since they both failed to revive the X games. and the X collections, along with the RPG spinoff certainly don't count. X7 and X8 count because while they made major changes, they kept the staples. X7 was very much your typical X game, just with some 3D stages and mediocre design. you still have all the collectables, X still gets armor parts. sure, X is unlockable for some weird reason, but he's still playable. X8 though, you could make the case, as all the collectibles are replaced with metals attached to the upgrade, which you then buy in a store. you still have e-tanks and health upgrades, you just have to buy them now, and you still need to find upgrades in the stage. both X8 and 8 have gimmick stages too, so you CAN make the case that X8 doesn't count either, but X7 certainly does.

ever-changing rush accessories? rush coil and rush jet are in pretty much every game since MM3, besides MM6, where rush jet becomes an armor, to which MM7 combines the two adapters and still keeps rush coil and jet. then 8 gives you one time use per stage rush assists, and the &B japanese exclusive spinoff gives you rush search form 7. damage tables are one of the big staples of mega man too, in MM8, you really have no reason to use different weapons outside of boss weaknesses, as they damage all enemies the same, whereas in other mega man games, you had to figure out the best weapon against each enemy. now you just flash grenade everything. it's like metal blades except metal blades dinged off some enemies.

X2 had Zero Parts guarded by optional bosses, which evolved in X3's Nightmare Police and Vile bosses. X2 introduced airdash and more exploration-focused level design, leading to X3's chips and ride armors becoming a part of that too. X4 simplified the level design to be more like run'n'gun, which is a huge change, levels are more flat (something that only appeared before in X1's Sting Chameleon, and it was an exception) and enemies are now different entirely. 16 heart upgrades is also something that was kept until X8 swooped in, and the only reason stuff like upwards airdash was a "one game gimmick" is because X4 cut it, with X6 restoring it.

...what do you mean no fighting games? power battle, fighters, battle&fighters, a compilation of them, etc. it was all released in tangent or after 8.

"donut stage" (aka Nightmare Snake stage) was in X1, named Launcher Octopus - both you can cheese and i will never understand why people complain. the only reason i can see why people hate it is because X1 had slightly nicer presentation - instead of 6 bosses with 3 different behaviors and each having an alternate version, X1 has 5 bosses with 3 different behaviors and two have an alternate version. you can cheese both with nearly everything you have in your arsenal in both X1 and X6 - only armorless X doesn't have a giga attack of some kind and even then he can still use weapons with ease. though, i'd argue that X1 is slightly worse in that regard since the last three bosses (the ship and the two giant fish robots) reach repetitiveness that the later (last two) Nightmare Snakes avoid, with both having only one pattern they keep repeating, but the first four Nightmare Snakes are a bit similar. crusher stage isn't really a gimmick stage in the X8 way either - instead of locking you to gameplay that resembles nothing else in the game and being as fun as slamming your head against the wall (optic sunflower, gigavolt man-o-war, avalanche yeti) - though, two of those are ride bike stages (THE worst ride armor stages), but thankfully, X6 just happens to lack ride bikes at all! what a relief. acid rain stage and giant robot stage also don't really do what X8 did, and both crusher, acid rain and giant robot are just normal platforming stages with a gimmick on top... similar to what previous games did, such as Magna Centipede, or Blizzard Buffalo, or even Burn Dinorex. laser redirection is also similar, and while pretty short, i'll never get the hate - there's always a large alternate section y'know. isn't it good when you are required to do the gimmicks only if you want some optional items? and laser redirection is FUN, in nearly any game i've played.

      Delete
    19. the museum stage is also similar, but it is gimmicky in a way i don't like, being the only stage in the game i don't like playing much. but it's still a platforming and combat stage to the core with items hidden. Gate stage with spikes can be beaten with using Wolfang's weapon and the Jumper part (a part that CANNOT be infected at all since it's in an area where nightmares never spawn and can never spawn), or with Zero, or with Shadow Armor, or with perhaps Blade Armor... hmm, it seems like once again the really hard stuff is kept for Armorless X, just like how it should be. but wait, he can use Jumper too! bam. alternate path of Yammark cannot even be accessed by anyone without airdash before getting at least the Wolfang power and specifically choosing to go there as ARMORLESS X, someone you are only supposed to use when you're challenging yourself to... because the game provides Falcon Armor by default and notifies you about that and it will always be accessible! for some reason, people seem to be unable to realize that, and want Armorless X to be removed entirely, a'la X1's forced upgrades. personally, as someone who beat X6 armorless quite a lot of times, with two being 100%, i would be extremely disappointed in that decision, as i love collecting everything without having upgrades forced on me. also, no, you CAN pass it as Shadow Armor by using the charge. or Hyper Dash, or Speedster, or not using Shadow Armor. as for High Max, i've yet to realize once again why people rush to those portals like bees to flowers. some of those are inaccessible without weapons or armors, and getting the unlucky combo of somehow accessing two portals in a row without beating a single boss is bizarre aswell. when i first played the game, i didn't even realize Nightmare Zero existed, let alone High Max and Dynamo! some propose the solution of cutting or limiting all those portals, but once again, i'd take a game that lets me experiment as much as X6 does rather than just force the player on a linear path and that's it (like X4 mostly does). all of those things are oversights - slight problems, yes, but nowhere near as bad as X8, which has a core problem of "6 of 8 stages are either garbage that resembles nothing the gameplay was in intro stage or aren't FUN at all and are extremely long drawn out autoscrollers, while there's only two fortress stages (hatches don't count as they only have a hallway) and one of them is also an autoscroller with no level design" - the times when X8 is like X6, which is Antonion, Pandemonium (aside from collectibles), The Moon and most of the bosses (even if their invincibility frames are way too drawn out in phase changes, they're true X series bosses to the core, mostly), it's actually pretty good. not a masterpiece, but i'd love to replay it - if the collectible system wasn't screwed and 7 weren't gimmick stages, i wouldn't be having this discussion. to me, i'd much rather prefer having freedom, and even if there are some issues, once i learned of them, i merely avoided them all (except Central Museum, which is still the game's biggest flaw to me), and that's it. X7 and X8's gimmicks cannot be avoided - i have to stay on the ride, no matter what. but ah well, opinions are opinions, and for all things X4 did, it's still a great game too, so don't get me wrong, i am just sort of pissed to this day that X7 and X8 weren't about being even prettier 2D games with more advancements, more new ideas, and a mixing of X6's ideas with Symphony of The Night, another one of my personal favorites. but, to each their own, as i do see why you like X8 now a bit more. as for the other part of the discussion...

    20. i was talking about 9 for WiiWare. it was classic that was chosen to be first revived. as for both PSP titles, collections and RPG... well then, i suppose i concede, since if you do agree those didn't matter either, then by your point, both series did die. ah well, guess it's up to point of view. as for X7 counting... perhaps, i'll probably replay it on the smaller damage values version (aka JP/EU) and see if i agree.

Coil changed in 5, Jet changed in 4, both gaining highly different behaviors. and that's not mentioning Rush Marine, which was in 3-4, but then mysteriously disappeared, and 5's Super Arrow, if that counts. 7 is a game that combines all, but from 1 to 6, the items were constantly changing. as for damage values... well, i suppose i misunderstood you - what you describe is the way 8 handled them, rather than them missing at all. they are technically in the game, it's just that yes, the values for enemies are extremely lazy there, which is bizarre - in fact, X2 also had complex damage values for each weapon and enemy, more complex than in any series game before as far as i remember. guess 8's team just got lazy with that, which is a shame.

well, since i don't have much more to say, have a good day.

I wouldn't say having simplier level design is a big change. a big change would be like MMIII DOS's maze like levels being a big change. X4 didn't have optional bosses per character, but there were alternate bosses per character. still, these things are really staples.

"power battles" and such are NOT fighting games, they're just arcade games. The gameplay is pretty much the same as the normal classic games, but there is just boss fights, and in 2 of the games, you have an alternate charge attack that completely breaks the game. aside from that, it's jump and shoot gameplay.

there's a big difference between the donut stage and launch octopus's stage. I don't see how you can even compare them, there's a lot of variety in octopus's stage. you have two different miniboss enemies that you can fight twice each, platforming sections, suction fish, etc.

donut stage has you start by fighting the donut that moves left to right, then you have a short platforming section flames and the common DNA monsters, then you fight the same donut, moving in a square. then you leave that fight to see a door that leads to another donut moving left to right again. after that room, you enter a tower where you fight the donut again, but this time there's instant death flames which gives you very little opportunity to hit the lower corners. after fighting the donut, you enter a room where you fight the donut again, except you're not going up a tower. then you fight heatnix. you have one small section of actual level, and 90% of the stage is the donut fight. people hate it because it's dull, it's the same boss, doing the same thing, a big unanimated donut that just moves and shoots from the green orbs.

giant robot in X6 is basically like giant robot in X8. the point is X6 had stages which completely consisted of 1 gimmick. X8 had two ride chaser stages, but I'd argue that X8 had one of the best ride chaser stages (yeti), with X7 probably having the best one (boarski), although ride chaser stages are bad. osterich's stage isn't a ride chaser stage, it's a stage with a ride chaser in it, completely optional, and not an autoscroller. Gigavolt's ride chaser stage is bad mostly because it really just lasts like 5 seconds if you know what you're doing. X7 and X8's ride chaser stages are ones you can actually beat on your first go without dying.

magna centipedes stage isn't one gimick the whole stage. you get 3 sections where you avoid lights, a section with falling blocks where you avoid a target thing, and some normal platforming with some platforming puzzles. giant robot stage is just a straight hallway with some squids, some holes, and the same robot midboss twice. alternate paths are great and all, but you can't take them and fight the main boss. you HAVE to play through the stage on the main path, with the more fun optional path being just that, optional, and has to be done in addition to the main path, unless you just go without the weapon for that stage

      Delete
    22. both wolfgang's weapon and jumper parts are completely optional to have, and you can go to the stage without either, and on a first time playthrough, you won't know to use them.

yamma's alternate area is accessible with shadow armor, which does not have an airdash, but can high jump. you need to have that load out, but you can enter the stage with loadouts that cannot make it, that's the point. people can get to high max because when they first play, they don't know it's an alternate path that leads to high max. if it's a weak player, who cannot beat any maverick at first, maybe can't even complete the stages. so they're playing through every stage, getting as far as they can. eventually, they get to giant robot stage, which presents the blue gate when you beat it. you don't know what it is, so you touch it, teleports you, you have no idea this is an alternate path even, then you fight high max and you're screwed. that's bad design. yes, there are workarounds. workarounds doesn't excuse the bad design. even worse, all the upgrades in X6 are permanently missable, and all special weapons are skippable, though you need to get at least 1. I love X6, but it is worst game in the series technically. I can see why there's debate as to whether it or X7 is worse.

    23. I don't think powered up played any role in the classic games being revived for wiiware, I think classic in 8-bit was the cheapest to make, and that's probably the main factor. yeah, both series definitely died, but classic pretty much died when the X games came about, and the X games later died, not really being replaced by anything. everything mega man kinda died for a while. maybe ZX survived it, but then ZX seemed to get replaced by MM9.

Every classic game up to 8 had attack weapons and utility items that you could equip and use multiple times, and it's use was under the players control completely, and revolved around mobility. MM1 had the magnet beam, MM2 had the items that evolved into rush. rush was about giving you more mobility and movement options to reach areas. you also got other times like the wire, ballon, super arrow, etc. Rush marine was dropped for being pretty much completely useless, especially when there was no water level. MM6 had rush JET adapter providing the functions of both coil and jet pretty much combined. it was more limited than jet, but had infinite ammo while removing your ability to slide. that's not taking anything away, it's evolution. MM8 just had a one time use per stage item, none really giving you more mobility. mega ball does, but I'm not even sure if that's intended design. instead of having rush, they instead went with tornado hold being a utility-like weapon.

you also had very gimicky stages (and bosses) like the jet board, the rush schmup sections, and swimming

      Delete
    24. @Erik the Red
optional bosses and bosses per character are way different things in terms of how they impact the gameplay, and no, simplified level design is also a huge change because it forces you to play entirely differently. maze levels are also a huge change, but after X3, X4 is like Sonic Forces (no offense to X4, even though i don't like X4 as much as the rest of the first 6)

well, then they're even closer to mainline :)

Magma Area also has enemies - more than suction fish in fact, being the Nightmares and the various nightmare effects, plus fire obstacles. and if you want, i can literally prove by providing maps that Magma Area has WAY more platforming in it's few sections than Launch Octopus, especially given that Octopus' platforming is far simpler. if you don't want me to do that and want to look yourself, feel free to look at stage maps - there's a pretty big tower descend section, an optional tower ascent with a nightmare area before that and the platforming in the bosses themselves, which there barely is any in X1.

the nightmare snakes that "move left and right" in the second quarter have a unique arena to them, requiring a different approach for both, and either jump or slide across the area. once again, the only difference is presentation - in X1, you get three midbosses, the final three of which have nearly nothing in terms of attacks - just one same pattern repeated over and over, with the first of the three barely even counting as anything since you can just mash and win. the first two are variations of one fight, and that fight does have quite a lot of attacks, but to counterpoint that, the last two nightmare snakes require highly different approaches, with the autoscroller one in particular being unique of a boss that changes due to it's arena and movement. the X1 bosses do even less - if it wasn't for three of them each having unique designs, they would be far simpler than any "donut" - the first one is completely static and either does the sucking attack, the pointless scanner or the fish sendout, then it's the same thing with spikes (something that barely changes the way you approach it compared to say, the fifth Nightmare Snake, as you would already be jumping a lot to dodge the attacks, allowing you easy air control to avoid spikes), then it's just a thing that shoots out a bunch of grabbers and missiles - neither of which pose a threat, then it's two dragons that both just repeat the same pattern over and over with NO attacks and might as well have been a cutscene since unlike the Nightmare Snakes, they don't require ANY effort. just like the one midboss before! as for percentages of what is what... from the maps, you can see that the "10%" is actually at least a half of the stage, with the rest being short arenas and one ascending tower for the midboss. as long as you don't go armorless weaponless yadda yadda yadda, you won't waste too much time on the Nightmare Snakes, especially with any character that isn't Armorless X, while the platforming you WILL have to do. for X1, the same mostly applies... except for the fact that the rest of the stage isn't a tower which you have to carefully go through, but rather a simple straight line with occassional enemies. suction fish are kept for two sections, there's the mostly pointless propeller area that barely even counts, and at the start is the biggest meat of the stage - three enemy types in one area, two taken from other stages and all placed in a straight line. pretty comparable i'd say, though Heatnix does it better. ah well

      Delete
    25. yeti is an abomination - X7's is pretty inoffensive and easy, but yeti's is a TEDIOUS slog. worst part is that there's no variety - it's always the same thing, same enemies, same route, same boring midbosses with extremely long animations before you can damage them. and NO platforming beyond that one secret! X6's stage is nowhere near X8's because of one thing... it just so happens that you aren't forced on a boring autoscroller and you can take it at your own pace as long as you dodge attacks! it doesn't waste your time - if you want to do it quickly, it'll be quick. plus, neat rescues section and a good boss, while Earthrock is one of X8's rare cases of a bad, tedious boss (yeti is worse though). as for beat on first go without dying - i dunno, i'd rather have Stingray or Kraken where you have to learn a short section and perfect it, which makes for a fun, almost shmup-esque segment, rather than the tedious bore that is yeti. as for gigavolt... no, he's not garbage just because of that, it's because he's once again another on-rails stage that is a pain to control, except this one is also visual vomit with camera going all over. to me, X8's ride stages (AND the damned Troia Base) are still the worst stages in the series - and i beat MANY of the games. the falling block with scanner is barely even a section, so if Heatnix only has "10%", then this is a 1%. the same robot midboss? it has an entirely different attack pattern for both stage and midboss after you beat the first midboss - he uses different types of lasers that work entirely differently, and the midboss itself uses DIFFERENT lasers, and then also can use all the other types of lasers. it's neat, really, and once again, can be compared to Centipede, where each midboss had like, 2-3 attacks. once again, a presentation difference at best. as for visiting stages twice - i dunno, i found it neat. it's not the best thing ever, but certainly way less tedious than X7 or X8, because once again, if you want to beat the part before that quickly, X6 gives you dozens of tools to do just that. the weakness of the midboss annihilates him as both X and Zero, after all.

they're completely optional, yes you can run into bad situations... but that's what makes the game GREAT for me. sure, there's that one singular player who never heard of what megaman is and went "let's NOT beat the rest of the bosses and head in early and then burn my PS1 down if i run into an area i can't beat!" - but that allows for way more fun than any game before that, too! X1, X4, they both are basically linear games - you might as well remove the stage select, all that will change is that you won't have boss weaknesses varying, but even then, in X1 you WILL want to get the dash, since while the game is technically playable, it sure isn't fun (and i've beat it armorless... with hacks that disable things that require armor, including Wolf Sigma only being weak to Rolling Shield and 4th level charge, allowing me to use 3rd level charge instead), while in X4, playing bosses with weaknesses is the wrong way, particularly when Double screws you over for that (until Sigma requires it for first phase?) and isn't really fun. sure, the games would become worse that way, but each time i replay them, there's barely any freedom in boss choices - it's always the same routes, since otherwise i would have to revisit a lot. in X6, since you have to visit each stage at least twice for 100%, i am fine with revisits, since there are DOZENS of paths i can take. who cares that i will have one more revisit, i'll be able to beat Mijinion with a lower level and make it easier for myself! or maybe ignore him for a long while and then battle him at his best, speaking of, the levels system is AWESOME.

      Delete
    26. and guess what - i still don't know THE best armorless X order for X6! i did get sort of close, but i am still not sure if it's the best. that's why i love X6 - and i don't care that "technically" it's the worst, once again, not only do i have a HUGE feeling in my gut that this just ain't right (there are many candidates that are way worse - one certain NES game, the Game Gear one that happens to be based off that NES game, X8 also isn't lagging that far behind and Wonderswan is certainly an exercise in pain... well, the DOS games are also horrendous), but i also simply don't care because as long as i know that rushing into the Secret Lab completely without anything is a bad idea, it ends up being the closest i will have to Symphony of the Rockman, and that alone makes it one of my personal favorites - alongside the level system, fun bosses, outstanding visuals and music, great controls, fun levels and dozens of tools that the player can get to handle the game in various ways, alongside with a good story (that got murdered by terrible localization, just like X5, and X2's story also got murdered even if it isn't good). every single time i see an argument against X6 i still don't get it - i have some personal problems with the game myself, but it's nowhere near ruining when the rest is so great. hell, it's just FUN. the only thing the game slightly might lack from your complaints is more restrictions (which i am COMPLETELY against - a more newcomer friendly game but cutting down a huge chunk of the fun because "well high max might require you to game over once :(" is what bad game design is for me, dumbing down the game just so it can become like the quite loved linear X4) and that the game hides the way things are way less - making you technically fight 3 different types of bosses with each having a variation you have to slightly differently approach, but all of them looking the same, rather than making you fight 3 different types of bosses, with two having a variation and at least 3 in the stage barely even counting as bosses - but each 3 look different! i don't know, i prefer gameplay difference over visual. overall, i'd say let's just agree to disagree, as this discussion wasn't about X6 and i doubt i'd gain anything other than a bad mood and an urge to play the original X6 (or a metroidvania) from playing "the well-designed" X6 that forces you to get all the needed items to get through the areas or removes all the playthrough locks entirely, come on, that's boooring! ah well.

well, you might be true on the cheapest, considering that apparently they redesigned the game to look "more like famicom/nes" in development and simplified it, which sounds like an excuse for the game looking far worse than say 4 or the later few (there's even a section nearly verbatim copied from 5 that looks way worse). ZX's sales were horrendous, so i wouldn't say it "survived" at all.

yeah, but tornado hold and mega ball do carry that purpose, similarly to say wire or super arrow, except with way more ammo. you do have a point here. the swimming only appeared once though and wasn't even a huge part in the stage it was in, required only like what, twice in the entire section?

let's just agree to disagree at this point - you have a point on the series survival, i still don't agree on X4 and X6 at all, i'd recommend you to replay both and see if you agree or not, since from my experience X4 requires a way different approach from the previous two in particular.

    27. you can hurt the yeti midboss pretty much right away, depending on what characters you use. X's charge shot has great range, zero's shots have a lot of vertical splash, and axl has rapid fire. you just gotta boost a lot, you can even hit it with X's charge shot when it's dropping enemies at you. the only time you really can't hit it I think is when it goes off screen to rush you, in which you can still hit it as it passes by.

manawar can be completely in literally 5 seconds or less. the key is to upgrade weapon energy, which is used for boosting. if you just stay on manawar's butt and spam shots, he goes down really fast. you also need to swap characters when you run out of boost power. even without upgrading energy, it doesn't take all that long.

I actually prefer these strategic thoughtful stages rather than X4 and X5 dying over and over again with very little actual options. in yeti stage, characters mattered, and braking/boosting matters. while I'd prefer to never have a ride chaser autoscroller in any X game ever, X8's is the less aggregious one imo. honestly, X2 did it best.

    28. yes, being able to run into unpassable situations is absolutely inexcusable, and terrible design. just like how in MM1, you can get stuck in wily stage 1 without magnet beam, and you just have to kill yourself. it's bad design, that they corrected by making the items mandatory that you get along with beating certain bosses. MM2 though really messed up with boobeam trap though, and MM3 with the over reliance on rush jet in the doc robot stages.

anyone doing a minimum run in X6 will run into issues. most fans don't even know you can't pass the gate stage without the right armor, though they might conclude that you can't pass with shadow armor because they don't have the right loadout. it's just really bad design.

The donut, while taking a different path, is just a tedious game of waiting to hit the spheres. it's a terrible stage, with the same donut 5 times, pretty much back to back. you can say that you're fine with it, but it's still bad. X6 is one of my favorite X games, but I can admit that it's very poorly put together.

and I'm not complaining about revisits, but that those "more fun paths" require a second playthrough. still have to play at least the main less interesting path for every stage, no exception. MM6 did a similar thing (X5 ripped off jet and power adapters, X6 ripped off the alternate path gimmick), but you didn't have to take the main path, you got to choose a path and be fine with that. one was required for beat, but you don't really need beat, so you had freedom to take whichever path you wanted without being forced to take the other.

and X6 is the worst technically in terms of X games, not considering licensed classic games, or even official classic games. X8 could use some polish, but every stage is completeable with every character. you can use whatever loadout you want, and you can beat the stage. X6 has too many impassable sections if you don't have the right equipment. it also has leaps of faith, which are just terrible to have. primary example, in yamma stage, in the lower route, when you jump on those caterpillar enemies over spikes. at one point, you are on one, and you can't see what is waiting for you ahead, and just have to jump and hope you don't die somehow. I love the equipment system of X6, and the reworked sprites, and X6 has some of my favorite armors, but levels design wise, is the weakest in the X series.

and no, it's not that X6 needs restrictions, it needs to at least have a path that can be passed by all characters. add routes that armorless X can take that are more difficult, but passable or something. don't give use lives everytime we rescue a reploid so that gaming over is a major hassle. allow players to exit the stage at any time. add options to change armor/loadouts within the stage. there are tons of options that are beyond "don't let the player go here". it's just bad design, just like how X3 is badly designed because they included a cluster of features, designing for none of them. everything in X3 is implemented poorly.

    29. The reason MM9 looked far worse than 4 onwards was because everyone has a nostalgia boner for MM2. MM9 was designed to be MM2 again, which is why they removed sliding too. they made the backgrounds simpler, reminiscent of backgrounds of MM2, even using that annoying as all hell password theme from MM2 for the main menu. it was an homage to MM2. because MM2 was the most popular classic game of all time, and the wily stage theme is so iconic.

ZX sales were bad, but it still got a sequel and pretty much ran until inti was moved to MM9, thus ending their work on ZX. and then MM10 tanked, and then inafune left capcom and that was the end of inti working with capcom. so while ZX didn't sell well (MMZ didn't sell all that well either), it might not have died if inafune didn't spit on capcom.

and again, mega ball, I'm not sure if it was meant to be a utility, and didn't just happen to work out that way, as it seems more like a nod to mega man soccer being a thing. tornado hold was a poor implementation, because you basically ruined a weapon to make it a utility. it's slow, it's clunky, and you pretty much just use it against clown man and if you don't know how to use the mega ball exploit.

    30. @Erik the Red
i won't even bother anymore, talking with you is like with a wall - i say why things are the way they are and why the arguments aren't there, you just go repeating the same stuff over and over and over. yeti has a long animation before each midboss and takes a LONG time to be actually able to be hurt, and goes off screen like you describe A LOT just to do some extremely easy to avoid attacks that take a humongous amount of time.

why, i am glad that while X6 needs every possibility to satisfy every player, the only solution to some of the most not fun and horrible 3d stages in the series is "just grind and get upgrades and then use as an exploit to basically skip the stage lol"

it's not "very little options" - memorize the layout, create a good path and what move is to be used when, and then execute it well. and best part is, X5's is over in less than a minute and then becomes a full platforming stage! there's no exploits needed, no stupid long animations, do it and you're done unless you want to revisit, which is fine by me. also, X2's controlled like garbage.

i won't even bother with all this talk, because of the sheer amount of times i said "UNLIKE X4 OR X8, ONCE YOU FIND OUT THAT THERE ARE TIMES WHEN GOING TOO EARLY IS A BAD IDEA, YOU STILL GET TEN TIMES MORE REPLAYABILITY OPTIONS AND VARIETY." you know what bad design is for me? the camera in gigavolt. the fact that yeti takes like 10-15 minutes and is as fun as watching paint dry while a lot of that time is wasted on dumb midboss showoffs. the fact that to get collectibles in troia base you need to perfect garbage challenges that ALWAYS have some that are extremely tedious that you have to beat and then throw some incredibly tight timing sections that you still have to perfect. or just use Axl's flamethrower/Zero's Sigma Blade and skip all that garbage, because X8 is basically a game of "here's a bunch of linear, tedious segments with LOTS of stuff locked by default - the worst sections can be skipped with exploits, the rest you'll have to sit through sloooowly". because i've said time and time again - no, i do not care for Magnet Beam being "bad design", i don't care for X6 being "bad design" because 1 is extremely fun otherwise and X6 still opens far more paths to play through. i don't care that "well you like it but you need to accept it's bad" - i've played X1-X6 at least 15 times each, and i've come to the conclusion that still, to this day, i prefer X6's approach, because even if there are some dangers if you try Armorless (something that you NEVER have to do and can be still be beaten with Jumper, Hyper Dash and Speedster, two of which are absolutely impossible to infect and the other is literally in your way in one of Scaravich's paths), i still have a game that has WAY more variety than anything in X8. because surprise - getting to alternate paths in X6 is simply FUN, because no matter how much "evil player traps" there are at the start, the level design is still fun platforming action that doesn't force me by a autoscroll camera that moves at the speed of a turtle. you CAN take your pace, you CAN equip any part you can ever want, you can use weapons, armors, all of that, and you can still get absolute 100% just by playing as Armorless X with parts. i've done that, by the way. and it was FUN. because the criteria for fun isn't "completeable by all" - by that criteria, Sonic Forces is an outstanding game (in fact i'd say X8 is quite similar to that game, even if it's more like Sonic Colors Wii in story), as it can be absolutely beaten no matter what and you will never run into unbeatable situations. because at core, after all times i tried to give a chance to X8, it still ended up being as fun as Sonic Forces, except Forces at least respected my time and had really short levels with nearly no autoscrollers. because once again, i explained multiple times why even if not being able to beat the game as Armorless X partless weaponless isn't possible,

    31. X6 offers WAY more than that, and the moment you start the game, you have the option: you can pick the Falcon Armor, something that can mostly beat everything in the game and all that it could possibly need such as Wolfang's weapon cannot be lost, EVER, something that's given to you in the Intro Stage, or you can pick Armorless X, who has quite some trouble without parts or weapons, but every upgrade given to any other version of X is also carried out to Armorless, except the parts, because (it's more fun that way since you can get parts on Armorless runs rather than avoid them): you can go nearly anywhere and plan almost any path, something X1 or X4 would have never let you do because they're as linear as a stick and eventually all of their playthroughs become the exact same, turning them (in particular X4) into games i want to replay less and less. is THAT not bad design? the fact that the games get worse each time you replay them since there's barely any variety. or is 'bad design" just something that people repeat by listening to some "correct" ideals about games, without care if someone disagrees and wants games to be entirely different than that? what if game design isn't just a bunch of checkboxes? what if you CAN'T make a great game just by trying to do something so inoffensive, something that fears the sheer idea of ever doing even one segment with "bad game design", that it in of itself becomes great in everything but gameplay, the only part that is absolutely mediocre?
what i am saying is the same point i've said before - no matter the possible traps, once you know how to avoid the small amount of them that there truly is, X6 still offers an experience that no other X game could match. freedom and replayability that's still fun to this day. maybe, maybe yes, i am wrong and stupid for even daring to say that i don't just like it, but consider it a great game, but i'd say just like i said in the post before: consider the idea that maybe your words aren't the absolute and maybe you're the one who just has a personal hatred for things that aren't anywhere near as impactful as you make them out to be.

as for Magma Area, i won't even bother. just saying, even one Nightmare Snake still requires more effort and actual gameplay from the player than the entirety of the last 3 patternized "midbosses" in Octopus ever did. and i still like Octopus's stage!

as for the caterpillar enemy, you see, the beginning of the stage tells you that if you shoot them, they move in your direction, and that you can also use them as platforms. if you, in that cave section, stand on one safe ground in front of a seemingly "faith jump" (the only in the game), you can either do that jump... or shoot the caterpillar, luring it to the right. if you do that, it will assume the position inbetween the two other caterpillars and the camera will perfectly scroll. cool, ain't it?

as for "the options" and "X3 is a bad designed game too" - guess that's where i won't even bother because for X6, i have said many times that while all of that is nice, not only making reploids not give lives, exiting the stage at any time and changing armor within stage would bring a plethora of their own issues (mostly those that would turn X6 into kirby levels of difficulty and how would you even make lives work otherwise), while for X3 i'll just say i simply disagree, because it's collectible implementation is still far better than what X1 and X4 did.

i love doing discussions like this, but i've simply become tired of this one. i won't bother to reply after this post - i wish you a good day as i have before, but i prefer to have discussions that make me think about the other person's opinion and whether i am right or wrong: however, a discussion that consists entirely of repeating the same points, with neither sides seeming to bring anything new to the table is just not worth it - yes, i am quite guilty of that aswell, as seen by the post i've wrote, which is why this time, i'll just stop replying. once again, have a good day!

  15. I'm still upset that we don't have berkana yet. she has specifically two moves that would translate well to X dive. one disables your weapon, the other disables your jump. just give it a % chance to do so, or make it a skill shot to hit with (in X dive? yeah right!) and you got a pretty awesome S ranker.

you have iris with her Xtreme 2 outfit as a skin, why not add some more xtreme characters?

    1. You want Berkana.
I want Gareth, Epsilon and Scarface.
      We are not the same.

    2. I'll take a gareth too, along with Zain and Geemel. I Berkana is just my preferred Xtreme 2 character, but they'd all be pretty awesome. they could even give us some of those original Xtreme 2 large bosses

    3. Well, I certainly enjoy the medieval theme presented in those xtreme game. Zain being an executioner and Geemel being a ninja x knight hybrid while Berkana is a witch and Gareth is her knight (eventhough he uses spear, weird). So yeah, I would like to see them in X Dive.
Just a question, why is Berkana your favorite character?

    4. I like her design the most, and her disable B or A attacks were neat, I think they'd be more fun to translate into X dive. I think garath had the most boring design of them though, as he just looks like a knight. I prefer zain and geemel
