The headline for this one says it all, really. Thanks to Rockman Corner reader Sylvie, you can finally download and play each one of those neat -- but definitely weird -- officially-licensed PC Rockman games. Better yet? They're virus and malware free.
We've got the download links below! (For the uninitiated on the subject, check out The Mechanical Maniacs' excellent write-up here.)
Here's what we got:
- Rockman X: Math Whirlwind: An 'edutainment' game starring you, as Rockman X! Note: a virtual driver (daemn tools or an equivient) is required to boot.
- Rockman IQ Whirlwind: Take on a series of puzzle games to improve your IQ. Or not!
- Rockman DASH: Great Adventure to Save the World: An educational 3D platformer (sort of) featuring a few familiar Mega Man Legends faces.
- Rockman 1~6 Collection: Don't be fooled by the package art. It's a collection of all six NES games.
- Rockman's Gold Empire: An original adventure set in the classic series. The cutscene .avi files were corrupted, unfortunately. And because the game won't boot without .avi files, Sylvie went ahead an injected the files from IQ Whirlwind.
- Rockman Strategy: One of, if not the best known title from the lot. Sylvie says that the OST doesn't play properly, if at all. The current running theory is the music is toggled 'off' by default because the opening cutscene BGM plays just fine. It's something you'll have to fiddle around with.
Big thanks to Sylvie for getting these oddities preserved on Archive. Again, Sylvie scanned and swept each one clean of nasty viruses and malware. You shouldn't run into a problem there.
Drop a comment below if you're experiencing any technical difficulties. We'll help each other out!
Enjoy, folks.
What's with all the MP3 files? Last I checked almost nobody ever used MP3 for game music. Except for those weird ROM sharing sites that would encode the WAV tracks of BIN/CUE sets to MP3 and include an MP3 to WAV converter to convert it back and rename it as a BIN file.
ReplyDeleteThe ReadMe says you need to use a XP or 2000 virtual machine for the game to work. I imagine DOSBox might also work. Also, make sure you are using the 32-bit version of XP, Since the issue is that the installer(and probably the game itself) use an executable that 64-bit systems can't execute.
DeleteThank you. That's why you are the best. Rare are harder to find and you managed to get them from the source shared with you. Much appreciated and thank you again! Rockman Mega World Sample anybody ? Yes, it existed in the magazine but existing rom ? Unknown. What about you ? :)
ReplyDeleteTron's face is weirding me out.
ReplyDeleteYo aún tengo el disco del juego y el disco de instalación del megaman strategy. Pero eran para Windows 98
ReplyDeleteGold Empire has corrupted AVIs? I have a copy of that one too, but it used to play just fine on my older machine. I think we just might be missing a coec.
ReplyDeleteI understand what happened now. The guy who dumped this game - Games88 or something - thought it would be hilarious to add his tag to the videos. Ha ha ha, thanks for corrupting the game, dude. Including the endings! It's been a long time so I never really checked the available downloads, but I got my copy from a guy names Tommy Lee waaaaaaaaaay back when I ran Sprites INC ... and it took me even longer to write my article on this game.
ReplyDeleteSo here's the uncorrupted AVIs. But I won't keep them there forever. So download them and fix the archive, somebody.

Hi, by any chance you still have the uncorrupted AVIs? I'm been looking forever for the game to play :(
DeleteAnd look at bad drawing of Rock's face and wrong uniform in Rockman Dash. YIKE!

ReplyDeleteMay I have one please? Thanks.
I put it back. But the archive has been fixed so after a couple days I'll bin it again.
