No More 8-Bit Mega Man Figures, Says Jakks Pacific

"8-bit Mega Man burnout" has been a thing for a little while now and it looks like it's finally caught up with one brand partner. Jakks Pacific, who currently hold the master Mega Man toy license in the states, has announced that their 8-bit line of Mega Man toys is no more.

Here's what Jakks Pacific's own Craig Drobis had to say: (via Toy Hype USA)

"I am a personal fan of our 8 bit lines, mostly because that is how the games looked when I first played them.  And the Mega Man two packs were among my favorite executions we have made.  We did find that people were more interested in the modern/3D versions of the characters and that is why we moved on to the Mega Man 11 figures.

Unfortunately, there won’t be any more Mega Man 8 bit figures being developed and I think in general we will use save that execution of figures for timely introductions around anniversaries, etc. where we can present them in a special fashion.
"

Although their won't be any more 8-bit toys, it's good to know that fans have responded well to the more "modern" iterations of the character. Surely this will point Jakks in the right direction for future lines. We may yet have more "modern" Mega Man figures!

Were you a fan of the 8-bit line? How do you feel about all this?

  1. I think they were cool. My OCD still wants Bomb Man and Ice Man, and Thunder Beam, Fire Storm, and Super Arm Mega Man.

  2. I liked them, but they were pretty hard to find in the wild. Oh well. Hopefully we get something better next.

  3. Jakks Pacific is pretty low quality stuff. their 8-bit line was acceptable, as it looked pretty decent. I wouldn't add their mega man 11 3 pack to my collection, even when finding it on super clearance at gamestop. Those figures are just too low quality. that and the Mega Man X MvC:I figures are just so ugly.

I wish we could get some MM11 figures from a respectable brand, like bandai or sentinal.

    2. Not all the time ftr. The Fully Charged toyline is excellent quality.

    3. Hasbro made the MvCI line of figures, and yeah, the X figure is a disappointment and the IronMan is just a recolor. It's a shame, because the Ryu and Black Widow figures aren't that bad at all. I just wish we got better representation for X in terms of Western figures.

  4. Otoh, they were giving us robot masters. Otoh, they don't look like they'd stand up well by themselves.

  5. Jakks Sonic line is on point for sculpts and engineering.
Would be great if they could use that team to deliver Megaman too, hopefully they have plans for the US release of X Dive.

  6. Typical.

Expecting some modern company to produce a full set of robot masters (from any game, in any form) is like hoping for someone with the Street Fighter license to make a Dee Jay figure!

Someone should just 3D print a bunch of MegaMan PVC figurines and sell them through China and call the line "Knuckle Kid" so Capcom can't sue.

2020 is defined by incompetence, ineptitude and disappointment.

    1. As a sculpting hobbyist, I did plan on doing that before, but some robot masters are a lot harder to make than others. It's also harder to 3d print those who wear transparent helmets (i.e. Aquaman and Acidman).
