Red Ash Prototype Gameplay Posted (Can Kicking Confirmed)

About time, right? Nine days to go on the Kickstarter, and Comcept has at last showed off some prototype Red Ash footage. HYDE Inc. produced this mock-up featuring Beck from Mighty No. 9 as a placeholder. It's early, it's rough but it gives you a basic idea of what they're going for.

What do you think? Is this enough to drive Red Ash's funds forward? Or is it too late? The clock is ticking...

  1. Can Kicking Confirmed. Best game of 2017 right here (Assuming it meets the deadline and get funded)

  2. Well, this looks... basic. I know it's prototype footage, but that wasn't exactly exciting to me. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not a backer nor am I a hardcore fan of the series, but this looks like they're showing off some pretty dated mechanics so far. Again, it's prototype footage, but I think to try and get more people involved, they needed to finalize a few things. Some of the controls that they showed off, like Beck's jump and his turning, looked a little too similar to the outdated ways Mega Man Volnutt did the same stuff in the Legends series. But that's just my opinion, I don't claim to speak for everybody. If there are people that are excited by this footage, then that's awesome, but I'm not one of 'em.

  3. Hmm... Kicking cans in a narrow passageway. Now where have I seen that before? It's almost like Comcept is using something else as a basis... but I can't... quite... figure... out... what.

Wait. It just hit me. Those are Mighty No. 9 models!

Confirmed: Red Ash is Mighty No. 9 2.

  4. This does seem hurriedly cobbled together in a desperate attempt to get people to have faith and donate.

I loved can kicking in Legends! It was great fun. I'm glad to see that level of interactivity come back... on paper. I think in the end they definitely pushed this thing out way, way, way too soon and should've waited before they had something substantial to share to really show us what they had in mind in motion.

I still hope they pull through to the minimum, but it isn't looking good so far.

  6. These comment sections are pretty much cancer. Love you P-Dudey, but damn.

    1. How exactly are these comments cancerous? We're just expressing our opinions on this frankly lazy prototype video. No one's forcing anything on you or anyone else, so would it kill you to respect others' opinions?

    2. Hey Anonymous July 25, 2015 at 10:48 AM, do you have any idea what cancer actually is? Do you know what it's like to actually have cancer? Cancer is a horrible disease that comes in many forms and can spread all throughout a body, sometimes debilitating a person, other times being very fatal. By calling comments "cancerous", you're essentially saying peoples' opinions are a sometimes-fatal disease that should be cut off at the source, even if it means the person may be unable to live their lives as the used to.

Is that honestly what you're saying, Anonymous July 25, 2015 at 10:48 AM? That you think Protodude should cut off the comments section, otherwise his site may end up dying a slow, painful death?

      How dare you.
      How. Dare. You.

    3. First Anon, there's a fine line these days between seeing the positive in something, and just sitting back and accepting everything, regardless.

    4. Nah, let's just say that I now completely understand why people outside of the Mega Man fandom can't stand the people inside of it. Comments and opinions are not cancerous by themselves. Your vitriol and outright hostility projected at not only each other, but at both Capcom and now Inafune himself is cancerous. Lots of absolute blind rage being spewed in whatever direction is most convenient. By all means, be upset at the way you perceive things to be handled in the world of Blue Bombers and Blue Bomber Accessories. But having people like Mr. Collins over there infer that my opinion of other people's opinions isn't valid is contradictory crap. (He also seems to have been triggered by the very mention of the word cancer, which seems to me like a personal problem which he should probably look into so he can function socially.)

I used to be a regular here. I left because there wasn't any news worth discussing. I came back because Red Ash seemed worthy of discussion. I posted my comment here (after having slogged through the comments on other articles) because it was the newest article at the time. My opinion isn't wrong; that's the thing about opinions. What you are wrong about, though, is the fact that you assumed my comment was on the idea that the comment sections were cancerous and should be removed. That's you putting words in my mouth, Mr. Collins, and I'd thank you to step off your "holier than thou" high horse and stop pretending to speak for me before you make yourself look like any more of an absolute babbling imbecile.

No, the cancer I speak of is cancer of the fandom itself. I purposefully distanced myself from the fandom for a long time while I waited for news to come in that wasn't about new merch or a new show or anything else that wasn't a game. I came back to comment threads largely filled with petulant, entitled man-babies insisting that their opinions are the only correct ones, tantamount to fact, shuffling dissenting opinions off to the side, and shouting louder than their opponents in the hopes that their rage could be construed as having a strong sense of justice or something.

There are gems of positivity here, but for the most part these comment sections have devolved into Mega Man-themed caricatures of Fox News comment sections. Blind rage, cherry picking, an overall atmosphere of hostility. Arguments for the sake of arguments.

That's the kind of thing that is cancerous to an already dying brand. Mega Man won't be revived through a heavily-splintered fanbase that can do nothing but bicker at each other like whiny babies. People see that happening and think twice about wanting to get involved in the fanbase, that perception possibly even tainting their view of the IP itself. So if you wanted to contribute to the death knells of the Mega Man series, then congratulations; you're doing Capcom's work, boys. They may have started the fire, but you lovely little bundles of easily-provoked fanrage are eternally fanning the flames.

Personally, nothing short of Legends 3 will ever get me to buy another Capcom product as long as I live. The old wound still aches in me. But I quickly realized that venting my anger in these little echo chambers does nothing but keep me angry all the time, and that isn't constructive in the long term. I honestly hope that the more hot-headed of you folks figure that out for yourselves soon.

Never let go of your convictions. But for Rock's sake, stop treating each other like enemies. As far as I'm concerned, the only true enemy is Capcom's board of suits that started this in the first place. Go channel your rage at them.

  7. Inafune: Let's throw out another Mega Man franchise clone Kickstartee,Mega Man fans are so starved for a game that they'll buy anything even similar to it!

Comcept Employee: Don't you think we need to wait to see the sales numbers from Mighty No. 9 or better yet have a demo of Red Ash before we roll out its' Kickstarter?

Inafune:Nah,like I said Mega Man fans buy everything. They will easily fund it.

Comcept Employee: They aren't funding it.

Inafune: Crap! Quick, someone slap a demo together!! (Scrambles)

    1. This. And what's crazy is to look back on preliminary footage for Mighty No.9 and see that the final footage (or at least what we've seen in the last couple months and people have played at cons) looks hardly any different. I'm sure lots of mechanics have been added, but visually, hardly any improvement since the first videos which they claimed were the result of "7 days of development." It would be nice to see something better from both Mighty No.9 and Red Ash than what can be produced in 7 days of development. I'm guessing what we see running in Red Ash demo is about 1 day of development. The concept art for Red Ash is dreamy. Would be a shame to see that compromised by horrible project management and weak use of the modern tools they have available that are light years ahead of what was used for the original Legends games. I wouldn't mind seeing Red Ash have a 2D anime look like the Guilty Gear team did with the same tools for Xrd.

    2. Or Mega Man fans will support Mega Man, but Mega Man Legends is just a fringe spinoff that is only supported by a small very vocal cult, and now that that is made evident they will try and blame everything but themselves.

  8. Is it just me or did some people back out of the funding? I remember it previously saying four hundred-eighty odd. Not that it surprises me though.
