Watch Hitoshi Ariga Speed Draw New Megamix Art

I've always been a huge fan of Hitoshi Ariga, best known for his work on Mega Man Megamix and Gigamix. You can imagine my glee when I happened upon this small token from the man himself: a speed recording of the new Megamix Vol. 2 cover art from start to finish.

It's an amazing glimpse at what goes on behind the scenes. If you're a fan of Ariga's works, or the creative process in general, check out the video above.

  1. DEF a fan of Ariga! I waited so very, very, VERY long (since 99) for the Megamix stories to be imported!!! And my wait certainly didn't disappoint! I noticed his art seemed a bit different in Gigamix. Though I can't seem to tell what that difference is. It seems cleaner, if that's even the right word.

Either way, this is really nice! Heh heh heh I may just try and copy this man's style! Great art, great stories, great guy! Loved the interviews with Inafune and Ariga! He seems very humble and appreciative for the chance to do the series.

My only complaints would be one, it seems like some of the fights could have been really shown. Some of the battles seemed to start up just to be left to our imaginations. In some instances, that's great! Feeds our own creativity! But it seemed to have happened more than it perhaps should have.

And two? There's no more! XD I really would love to see some more stories! Even from different series!! (heck, Gunvolt or Mighty No.9 would be great!)

  2. Can't stand Ariga (well him constantly in my face in regards to art in this community at least), where's the speed drawing or updated work of all the great Mega Man artist working on the games and such? Now that would be a real treat. Never gonna happen though 1 Mega Man is dead in that sense and 2 those artist don't ever get the praise and appreciation they deserve, so they wouldn't know to do those type of things.

  3. I'm a big fan of this style. It does a good job of getting a bit darker while still maintaining a lot of the character of the Classic series. Basically showing the range that can take place in the Classic series while not going to the more extremes of the X series so they can be separate entities. At least that's how I feel about it.

    Nothing against anyone who disagrees.

    1. To me his style at least now looks like a cleaner more CG-esque Ken Sugimori style. Ariga has more dynamic artwork I think though.
