Mega Man is Coming to the Wii U Virtual Console

During today’s Nintendo Direct, company president Satoru Iwata revealed the highly anticipated Wii U Virtual Console update will arrive next week. The above sizzle real shows off a handful of upcoming games, including the original Mega Man. It remains to be seen if it will be a launch title...  but hey, at least it's on the way.

Wii U Virtual Console games will support off-tv play on the Wii U GamePad, save states, and individual Miiverse communities. I'm most excited about the latter; a Mega Man Miiverse community is going to be amazing.

  1. ...Hooray, I guess?
So it's going to be a straight port (again), right?
Not exactly unwelcome, especially in light of the 25th Anniversary's lack of quality NEW games, but the potential Megaman Miiverse community part sounds interesting at least.

  2. I'm REALLY not usually this guy, but I don't really care. Mega Man 1-6 is getting re-released on everything. It's really not special to me anymore. They should have announced the SNES games and I'd be far more excited.

  3. No Earthbound.

More Rockman games, please?! I can hope for Rockman & Forte, 7, and X3 SNES version to be complete!

  6. I can't say I really care about this news since I have megaman 1-6 for nes and the anniversary collection for ps2.

how about releasing some of the megaman games that haven't been released on the vc at all? games like: megaman x3, megaman 7, megaman the wily wars, and the 2 arcade games: megaman the power battles, megaman 2 the power fighters.

  7. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks Earthbound is overrated.

Anyway, about Mega Man games coming to the Virtual Console? Consider how many times these games have been re-released so far, I'm not all that excited. I'm still waiting on the rest of those Game Boy titles.

  8. It's not Legends 3? I hate you Capcom! I hate you Nintendo!

  9. I heard The Wily Wars was suppose to be released on Virtual Console a long time ago, but obviously, it's not. You can blame SEGA for that...

  10. I honestly could care less about the Mega Man is going to be on Virtual Console update, and this is coming from a Mega Man fan. Looking forward to Earthbound myself.

Instead of re-releasing the same old titles about 36 million times, why don't they try to do something nice and release a certain iOS Mega Man game that always seems to cause drama here when it's name is even mentioned? (if you don't know, I'm referring to xOver)

  11. Just for the record, that's not me being a moron up there.

Granted, I do think it's silly that we're just getting MM1 again, but it's just a re-release for the new system. It was bound to happen, so, it happened.

This does make me wonder, though... Is the Wii U backwards compatible with downloaded Wii games? I can't seem to find anything concrete, and I'd hate to lose my copies of Megaman 4,9 and 10 when I upgrade.

  12. Yeah I agree, Earthbound is not that great. Hipsters only hype it up because it was a cute little game that didn't take itself seriously, was fan favored while remaining an obscure title because of it, and with the wake of current gen was bloated by a bunch of people who don't even know what the game is all about. You got hipsters on this site going 'Mega Man, who cares, I want Earthbound'-gimme a break

-BTW I like the Mother series for those thinking I'm just trolling or whatever. Not that, that makes a difference for what was said above, Just thought I'd throw that out there-

I for one know two things. Capcom definitely doesn't have a quality game up for releases anytime soon, and ports of good Mega Man games is never a bad thing. It offers more exposure and accessibility for Mega Man.

  13. I've played/bought Megaman for NES, Cell Phone, and PS2. I can easily play it via emulation with a PC, PS2, PSP, DS, Android.

Try and guess how excited I am that Nintendo finally did something that would have been noteworthy a decade ago?

  14. "Mega Man is Coming to the Wii U..."
    Finally a new game!
    "...Virtual Console" (Mega Man 1)
Oh... That again. Could at least be the Rockman Complete Works version, ya know.
Well, I wonder what Miiverse is...

*hint*Release Mega Man: The Wily Wars while Worlds Collide is going on*hint*

If you've transferred your data from your Wii to WiiU you will still be able to play all your games in Wii mode on WiiU, also if you want to purchase the HD enabled editions of any of your old VC titles on WiiU they will have a reduced price on e-shop according to todays Nintendo Direct.

I know some people are fed up with the re-releases all the time BUT look at it this way... Iwata mentioned the WiiU virtual console will support GBA games, this means there's more chance of us getting Mega Man & Bass (even though the SNES version is superior but still..) + there's potential for the Battle Network & MM Zero titles to be released on this as well! All of those finally playable on a console without an add-on ... & I wouldn't be suprised if Wily Wars was delayed so they could release it on WiiU instead along with MM6, 7 & X3...

The only benefit of them re-releasing MM1-6 is mainly for us in the UK & Europe as we're finally getting 60hz versions which run faster than what we had before + MM6 was never released here either!

  16. So...what about this 3D version of Mega Man 2?

Where's that? At least it would be an interesting umpteenth playthrough.

  17. Just release a "Mega Man Mega Collection" already! Rockman Complete Workds 1-6 + Mega Man 7, 8 (Saturn version with option to change Tengu's music), 9-10, MM&B, the 2 "Power" fighting games, the 5 Game Boy games, Wily Wars, Soccer, Battle & Chase, Powered Up, and whatever else can fit in the disc (Maybe Rockboard, Super Adventure, and mobile games?)

  18. Now, since it's already on the Wii, and they said you can port your games over... does that mean we can just upgrade that version, or do we have to buy a whole new one?

  19. "So...what about this 3D version of Mega Man 2?"

Don't even get me started on that.

  20. I don't have a Wii U yet, but if they are at least doing something different like what was stated, than I guess I can welcome it with open arms? I just hate the thought of paying money for something I already have and was going to port from my Wii! The only game I look foward to seeing being released is MM 6, and that's only because it was never released for the Wii's virtual console. :\ The other games look great though! Yay Earthbound! :D

  21. Wasn't the 3D MM2 called Mega Man Universe?

  22. @Cyberguy @Dr. Jerk: I wouldn't be surprised if it's Prof. Megaman. Since a good chunk of the blog regards him as a troll because of the comments on the Archie posts, he may have just gone full troll now.
