So
Rockman Xover is now available for Android. In Japan. Google Play's regional restrictions make it a tad difficult to obtain the social RPG if you live elsewhere. Fortunately, there is a sneaky workaround.
Prof. 9 of The Rockman EXE Zone has put together a
quick step-by-step guide to installing/updating Xover on your Android phone outside of Japan. The process involves a specialty proxy app for Google Chrome. As per usual, the game is free. No need to worry about funds and such. Just give the guide a read through and you're all set.

No, we don't want that horrible excuse of a MegaMan game on our mobile phones. People who liked this garbage are idiots.
ReplyDeleteFor those people who are attempting to play this without Japanese knowledge, here's a minor setup guide for after you get it installed. The first screen you will see after the Kalinka loading screen has 2 buttons on it. Choose the top one to start a new game. The next screen has 2 text boxes on it. The top box is for your username, and the bottom one is for a referral ID. The referral ID is optional, but if you want to put something in there, you are welcome to put mine: 4VHHG9J6 .
ReplyDeleteI'll just wait until it comes here... eventually CoJ will put enough pressure on CoA to localize it...
ReplyDeleteGoing to be honest here... after all the negativity, and us finally "winning" a battle with Capcom by getting them to not localize this... boy after struggling through the menus do I wish this game was in English.
ReplyDeleteSo I grabbed the APK linked in your post, hoping to rip some sprites for Sprites, Inc. and tSR. However, inside I found... barely ANYTHING. Some UI graphics, some effects, a bunch of soundless MP4s, and the main theme in MP3 and OGG formats. No tiles, no sprites, no level music...? Is everything stored separately from the APK and downloaded when the game first runs, or is this just a client and everything is rendered on Capcom's server? This is stupid. :psyduck:
ReplyDeleteI don't suppose this works on iPads. I should've went cheaper and gotten an Android instead if I'd known this wasn't coming out in English.
ReplyDeleteTechokami: Xover is indeed mostly a browser based game, at least part of it written in JavaScript. The app functions as a wrapper for the web browser, handling stuff like music playback and in-app purchases.
ReplyDeleteOnly a very small amount of graphics/music is stored inside the app, everything else is stored serverside. Some other guys at TREZ have been ripping sprites from the server using URL caches, I dunno if they've put them anywhere though.
@Musashi the Master:
ReplyDeleteI happen to hate/dislike this game as much as the next guy, but I have to say, that second sentence was pretty uncalled for. Let's not resort to personal attacks over peoples' preferences.
Well, I was playing it fine (and by fine, I mean full of glitches like a glowing charge shot effect solely 'running' across the screen and other choppiness at basically any item grab, level up, or boss select), until today the startup screen started redirecting me to Google Play and telling me the game wasn't available in my country. Suppose there were too many of us outside of Japan 'testing' it.
ReplyDeleteOther than the fact that I burned my special battle memory codes already, I'm actually not a ton bothered that I can't access it anymore.
@Musashi
ReplyDeleteWeren't you defending this game when it came out?
@MKVarana thanks I couldn't figure that out! XD
ReplyDeleteRock Miyabi: the game was updated today, it forces you to install the new version of the app. Once you update to 1.1 you should be able to play again.
ReplyDeleteplayed the game.... is crap!
ReplyDeleteLast game I played on android was Rayman Jungle Run, the game looks great and is fun to play
Xover is not....
@Musashi Funny, I thought you were calling the people who HATED this game idiots.
ReplyDelete@Musashi: Geeze, I hate Xover as much as the next guy, but that's over the line.
ReplyDeleteDo they have low standards for quality? Probably. But that doesn't justify name calling.
You have to be more... subtle in your remarks.
All that aside, I might have to download this. Just so I can see for myself that this thing is the pile of crap that I've always thought it was.
Alright, giving it a quick run, but I can say it's very much like any mobile Mobage game (Fantasica, Rage of Bahamut, etc.) or even Facebook game for good or for worse. While nothing special, looking at it that way it's far better then I thought originally.
ReplyDeleteSomeone took my username.
ReplyDeleteAt first glance the logo appears to say "Rockman Over." Ominous. xD
ReplyDeletePlaying the Tutorial... I started to hate Kalinka, even more than Alia...
ReplyDeleteHow can I play it?
ReplyDeleteI instaled that game on my phone, but asks for login, how can i register one account? D:
I can't get the stupid thing to work.
ReplyDeleteI wants me to create a sign in, I guess? Everything I put in, it won't take.
So I tried signing in with Facebook, and Facebook has an error and just sits there.
I try Twitter, and it lets me sign in but them gives me some error in moonspeak and and kicks me back to the loading screen and then I have to try logging in again.
@OVER-1 and Anonymous:
ReplyDeleteI posted an answer to what I think is your questions in the second post. Does the information there help you?
@Nekro:
Happy to be of help!
I should probably elaborate on what the Facebook/etc. thing is for, though: On the first login screen, if you click the bottom link it will prompt you for a Facebook/Twitter/Mixi login. This (to my memory) is used to restore an account that was backed up to one of those logins. If you got past the part I was referring to in my earlier post, the next time you login, you will be presented with a similar screen. The lower buttons that again ask for Facebook/Twitter/Mixi logins now want the information to backup your save data. The top button on this screen will allow you to play your game without backing your data up, but you will be prompted with this screen every time you load the app until you log into one of them.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know if this game remembers your phone via it's server? I've been trying to create a new account, but after deleting the application, it's data, then re-installing, the game goes right back to my old account without letting me go to the log in screen.
ReplyDeleteHi all,
ReplyDeleteAnyone able to provide link/info on how to play this on a U.S. iPhone?
Cho:
ReplyDeleteYou'll need a free Japanese itunes account. Follows these instructions:

@MKVarana
ReplyDeleteThanks, that actually did help. Finally got it to load up. Giving it a try now.
