Rockman Xover Tokyo Game Show Trailer (Updated)

I'll try reserve judgment until I play the game... but yeah, I'm not really feeling it. The music was pretty nice, though.

So, what do we have here? Well, the trailer showed off some new stuff we haven't seen before. At 0:34, you can catch a glimpse of OVER-1's different forms. These forms -- each equipped with a significant attribute like a pair of claws and a big shield -- are implied to be concurrent with the game's customization system.  A Battle Memory card pops up at 0:40 and no less than a second later, you'll see the Battle Memory customization screen (at least that's what it looks like). Notice any familiar faces? I sure do.

That's all that can be said for now. More Xover details are bound to surface as the Tokyo Game Show continues to heat up.

UPDATE: We've got some additional details from the playable demo. Hit the jump below for the lowdown.

Source: Rockman Xover Official Site

Coming from Famitsu (via The Mega Man Network):

"The demo on the TGS floor contains a “Quest” with Storm Eagle as the boss. The stage itself has forced scrolling gameplay, allowing you to jump and shoot with buttons on the screen’s lower-right. Also, once a gauge on the middle right fills up, you can perform a special move that has a large attack area.
The gameplay changes when you reach the boss, and you are able to fight with two different attacks. Additionally, although we could not select them in the demo, the menu also has “Power Up,” “Team Battle,” and “Master Boss” to choose from."

It'd be great if we got some footage of that. Well, we'll just have to wait and see!

  1. Well, that was underwhelming. >.>

  2. Wow. It's fucking nothing.

I'm just shaking my head over here, man.

  3. Those are some mighty jerky animations. They showed those gameplay clips so quickly, it's almost like they were trying to hide how bad it is.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Cool trailer, too bad the game looks even worse in motion, urgh

    ReplyDelete
  5. Hahaha they disabled the video comments in advance they KNEW.

  6. It looks fine to me. Granted, it certainly doesn't make up for all the crap Capcom put us through, recently, and I am a bit miffed that this is the ONLY game we're getting for Rockman's 25th anniversary.

But I personally don't see anything really wrong with this game. On the contrary, I think it looks rather interesting, what with the whole "make your own Rockman" theme. Not to mention I absolutely LOVE Over-1's design. ^^
I look forward to being able to play it.

  7. Welp, I'm convinced.

OVER is clearly "Rockman X v2."

    ReplyDelete
  8. @The Cucuyo: Well, the game itself might turn out okay; I just wish they'd shown us more than half a second of it.

Anyone else have a bad feeling that Luka's (not calling him OVER-1) alternate armours will be shown in-game as recolours of his default one?

  9. "Hahaha they disabled the video comments in advance they KNEW."

    Please.

All the videos in the CapcomChannel site are comment locked.

Bandai Namco has been doing the same, though they seem to also disable ratings.

  10. HAHAHAHAHAHA, oh, wow. I don't think I've ever seen the dislike bar that high before when a new Mega Man game was announced. Honestly, in my opinion, even Mega Man Universe looks better than this piece of crap, and that's saying a lot. Actually, no, scratch that... I've seen pirated games that look better.

    ReplyDelete
  11. It's telling when a trailer shows less than 20 seconds of gameplay and instead tries to bank off of your emotions towards previous games.

I'm really not looking forward to this. As a time waster, I think it looks passable, at least on a similar level to Angry Birds. But, it's most definitely NOT the game I want for the 25th anniversary of one of my favorite characters.

Give me Legends 3! Give me Universe! Heck, give me Megaman 11! I'd take another 8-bit game at this point! They weren't half bad, and you can throw them together in no time, so... Do something good!

    ReplyDelete
  12. What the hell was that?

There wasn't even any substantial gameplay.

(Because there isn't any to be had.)

    ReplyDelete
  13. Of all the "worst games" they could give us, this is THE WORST POSSIBLE GAME!!!

    ReplyDelete
  14. a) AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA WTF IS THIS? 2 seconds of footage?

All of the haters are wrong; this isn't a followup to Rockman X, this is OBVIOUSLY a sequel to the Tiger handheld games.

    b) At the very end, the katakana spells out "Rockman World", the original names for the Game Boy series. Why can't they make a Rockman World 6 instead? Oh wait, it's because of [redacted].

    ReplyDelete
  15. Well, this is about the shittiest thing they could do with Mega Man right now.

It takes a lot for me to say something like that.

    ReplyDelete
  16. The gameplay looks slow and boring, and the animation looks hideous. My expectations for this game is beyond low.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Say what you will But, seriously,
You have No Idea how reassuring it makes me feel to ACTUALLY SEE a MegaMan Game Trailer (these days)!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Anyone else notice Trigger wasn't even there?

    ReplyDelete
  19. If anyone ever tried to argue that iOS games were on par with "Real Games", this would be the prime example in bizaro land.

    ReplyDelete
  20. The trailer was more interesting than the game itself. Remove the game footage and it would be perfect!

@Captain: "Rockman world" = "the world of Rockman" here, but Rockman World VI or Mega Man Mania would be good.

  21. Hold on kids pay attention to that opening with all the Megaman iterations?

Now compare it to the artwork Protodude posted a while back.

    Now note whose missing.

Zero's GBA form as well as Volnutt.

For whatever reason, they shoved in triples of Classic and X, and doubles of EXE, SF and ZX. What makes the ZX one more confusing is the fact they used the X model only when the artwork used ZX. Also where the hell is the ZXA rep?

I demand to know who designed this, and why Volnutt was not included in the opening. Zero's not as much of a big deal, but the Legends 3 deal makes Volnutt's absence much more peculiar

    ReplyDelete
  22. @Those who noticed that Volnutt was missing: I did, too. :/

Zero's absence could be forgiven since he's only a "Megaman" in the sense that his solo series has that title, but Volnutt's has no excuse. (Well, he's in that promo art, but still)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Haaaa.
Oh my God, the ratio of likes to dislikes on this video on Youtube is golddddd.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm predicting it now: This game will never see the light of day, as it will be cancelled.

    ReplyDelete
  25. It looks boring to me. These animation are weak. And the game is so slow. Even these cards are not worthy. I'm not interesting in Rockman "OVER 1". What I'm interesting in is new Mega Man X9 and Mega Man Legends 3.

    Rockman Xover sucks.

    ReplyDelete
  26. The flashy text across the screen was more exciting than the actual game footage.
    -ud

    ReplyDelete
  27. I would actually like to see this one canceled, and I would hope that not a single soul would complain if they did.

    ReplyDelete
  28. The music is more exciting than the game itself.

    ReplyDelete
  29. What a pile of garbage. I hope they don't localize it, because we all know people won't buy it over here. Also, it seems Auto Play is enabled on the 3 seconds of gameplay we got, so apparently, you can hit the button and [auto] "play" the whole game.

    ReplyDelete
  30. so legends 3 and universe were cancelled for this crap? the "top men" at capcom make some of the stupidest decisions I've ever seen a video game company make.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Volnutt didn't make it into this game either, I see.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Obviously, Trigger is STILL on the moon.

    ReplyDelete
  33. This video has done wonders to garner my interest for this game.

    Obvious sarcasm is obvious.

But yeah... The very little gameplay content is extremely disappointing, not that I was anticipating for much to begin with anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Nice trailer, pretty sad gameplay. It's such a load of embarrassment, really. Capcom should be downright ashamed. Legends 3, a game that would have done well by fans and in the market of general gamers alike, gets cancelled because a "criteria" wasn't satisfied...yet Xover is in full motion? God awful logic, god awful business practice. Of course some will say its a smart move because everyone and their uncle have smartphones...well, I wouldn't consider the iPhone a smartphone...but if the game blows rancid ass, what's the point?

    ReplyDelete
  35. whoever said that the other versions of over-1 would be re-colorings is wrong i think. just about the only thing i found appealing about this video was the silhouettes of other versions(?) of over-1, which you will spot if you look closely at :34 (自分だけのOVER-1を作り上げて世界を救え!!create your very own OVER-1 and save the world!!)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Oh my, look at all the rabid fans bitching...

Just because their "precious" Volnutt didn't appear in the trailer. Seriously though guys, quit bringing up Legends 3 every time Xover is mentioned.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Rockman is over X , just give up ,you know own everyone with our mad lag like movement 2D vecorized graphics and unnoriginal chips. We will have it all!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I have a really weird feeling about this.

I think that Trigger wasn't in the trailer because there is no 2-D sprites from his series to "borrow" from.

Rockman's days are never coming back it seems.

Let me ask you guys this though-

How much poop would come out of your pants if Capcom was F-ing with us this entire time in the form of some twisted publicity stunt, and the 25th anniversary game turned out to be the secretly finished Legends 3?

Think about though! No sane company would treat raging fans this way, its gotta be some kinda trick.

    ReplyDelete
  39. @Zerker: How can we not when this looks like such a piece of shit?

    ReplyDelete
  40. This would be much better if it played like Battle Network.

    ReplyDelete
  41. This would be a much better game if it played like Battle Network.

    ReplyDelete
  42. There is no trick, this is seriously what they're putting out, the game and franchise are doomed.

"Just because their "precious" Volnutt didn't appear in the trailer. Seriously though guys, quit bringing up Legends 3 every time Xover is mentioned."

Because it isn't odd that they had a ton of duplicates in the opening art, and only had trigger in at the end screen.

    ReplyDelete
  43. JinzoNingenX: As great as that would be, not happening. They would attempt to regain our trust as soon as possible by announcing its resumption.

    ReplyDelete
  44. @Zerker We aren't complaining because our "precious" Trigger isn't in the game. We're complaining because the game looks like shit. The trailer barely shows any real gameplay footage and what little it showed looks like shit. Way to lump all the Mega Man fans with the hardcore Legends Fanboys, idiot.

    ReplyDelete
  45. @ 10:21 AM Anon: Oh, I am so sorry.
I really can't tell the difference between the normal fans and the rabids anymore, because they seem to have merged into a bunch of Chicken Littles who think the franchise is doomed simply because two games were cancelled.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Rockman Xover Official Site...

That I'm not interesting to read. The website is made of Japan, and I can't read it at all!

    Rockman Xover still sucks.

  47. Look! A crossover between the MS-DOS Mega Man, Mega Man X6 and Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge! The result must be AWESOME!!!

  50. Jesus man.....that was lame....what a crappy way to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the blue bomber. If it were to have a cake to put the birthday candles in, it would taste like poop. Capcom is really becoming into umbrella.

    ReplyDelete
  51. @Zerker: First off, three games were cancelled all within a very short time, relatively speaking, two of which had a significant amount of praise and excitement from casual and rabid fans alike. Second, you act like we're jumping to conclusions when the reality is we're commenting on what has ALREADY happened, not just what we think will happen.

Games we were really looking forward to were canceled (Capcom even blamed the fans for one of them!), and there have been no other releases in the franchise to compensate in quit a while. And then there's this... "game" with the unfortunate/foreshadowing name of X Over (how do they not see branding issues with name? It sounds like an X game!). If this was being developed and published by a third party, then who cares what they do? But this is Capcom and the quality of the game and even the concept is extremely low - I'm confused as to how you don't see this. Did you play/see the MegaMan X port? This uses so many of the same assets is embarrasing - even the trailer uses existing official artwork released years ago for other games. This is the same Capcom who refuses to put any developmental resources on games people have been (very) passionately asking for but releases 18 versions of each Street Fighter and Resident Evil game that no one wants to pay full price for AGAIN as well as some of the worst mobile ports in the industry. They have become (even more) lazy nd greedy over the years and it's just sad for those of us who have grown up with the franchise. I almost wish Nintendo or someone would buy the franchise and give it the love it deserves - Capcom clearly doesn't care anymore.

It's okay if you don't care for MegaMan yourself, but then why are you here? The rest of us (or at least a very large majority) have every right to be concerned. And with us constantly being told "we promise megaman is still important" but seeing zero results, you have to understand why we're so distraut over our childhood hero. :(

    ReplyDelete
  52. Zerker, leave. You're either a troll or a moron. Heck, at this point, I wouldn't be surprised if you work for capcom, considering how you keep putting down anyone who has an opinion that is less than "THIS GAME IS AMAZING ALL HAIL CAPCOM!"

It IS suspicious that he wasn't in the trailer and it IS suspicious that they only show 15 seconds of horrible gameplay. Wake up and smell the feces!

    ReplyDelete
  53. @Zerker: Unsurprisingly, you shame the people who noticed Volnutt's absence when most of the comments were about this goddammned humiliation of a trailer.

We also pointed out that ZERO-era Zero was missing, you know.

And you still think that two/three cancelled games in a row isn't a bad thing? I defy you to name another VG series that lost three games in a row--not builds of existing games or ports or anything of the like, but actual games that were cancelled.

Assuming you don't want to do that--and you probably don't, since then you can't insult everyone over their concern--then if this game is meant to celebrate 25 years of Megaman, why would they exclude two of those Megamen from the trailer and instead throw in multiples of the ones they did show?

Zero is technically only a "Megaman" because his series bears the title, so you could forgive his absence. Volnutt, on the other hand, is a genuine Megaman. Where'd he go, and why would Capcom (possibly) think that excluding him after what happened last year would be a good idea?

The two are still in that promo art, so there's a chance they'll actually be in the game. Our main subject was this particular trailer, which conspicuously does not have much of either Zero or Volnutt.

Finally, you may think we're beating a dead horse by continually referencing MML3 (I'm not going to explain why I don't think it's a "dead horse"), but you don't realize that "lol just get over it!" is equally tiring and grating.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Um, yipes. The video has become unlisted.

    ReplyDelete
  55. @Zerker: "a bunch of Chicken Littles who think the franchise is doomed simply because two games were cancelled."
Shows how much you think you know.
People don't think the franchise is dead because of that, is a whole fucking snowball of other shit combined, this joke of a game included

    ReplyDelete
  56. Barely 20 seconds of what looks to be shoddy gameplay footage that seems to be a quick cash-in on the "rising mobile gaming industry" cliche.

The rest is just flashy words and cool video effects and toying around with stock artwork.

GOTY right here. Happy 25th birthday, Rockman franchise! Now die so Capcom can stop trampling you!

Oh, AND VOLNUTT'S NOT IN, WHAT THE FUCK CAPCOM, HE'S SO IMPORTANT. MORESO THAN THE LACK OF EXCITING GAMEPLAY. MORESO THAN THE LACK OF EFFORT PUT TO THINK ABOUT THIS GAME. MORESO THAN THE FACT IT'S ON FUCKING IOS, AND IT ENTIRELY MISSES THE FRANCHISE'S DEMOGRAPHIC.

Capcom shouldn't make Rockman games anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  57. (Pretends that never heard about the game and is seeing the trailer for the 1st time)
Wow! FINALLY a new Mega Man game! And a crossover with all of them? Sweet! Nice music! And I can customize my Mega Man! (gameplay) What was that? I could barely see the gameplay. Is it a mix of card game, RPG and platform? Wait, it uses the same graphics from the iOS Mrga Man X? And it is also for iOS? Well... MAYBE it will not be so bad...

    (Game is released)

WTF is this ****!?!?!? Where are the other Mega Men? They only appear in story and as cards? I can play only as OVER-1? What with those graphics? Is THIS the game for Mega Man's 25th anniversary? Could not Capcom put more effort on it, or release it for 3DS or Vita? (add more here)

    ReplyDelete
  58. Now that you guys mentioned Legends and Zero, I noticed no game title from those two series appear in the beginning. (ZXA is the last to appear)

    ReplyDelete
  59. Perhaps it's better that Trigger and Zero are spared from being in this pile of shit. I don't think even the usual iPlayers will buy this even at 99 cents, let alone the probably 20$ CAPCOM will want for it.

    ReplyDelete
  60. + 2500 dislikes, good job all!

    Solidary with Rockman fans!

I hope this game wont appear since Rockman Online is maybe canceled =(

    ReplyDelete
  61. *yawn*

Was it made this badly on purpose? I have seen fanmade games better than this piece of crap.

    ReplyDelete
  62. The reaction has been wildly negative everywhere I've seen this pop up. I hope Capcom gets the message.

They should license the franchise out to someone who knows what they're doing.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I can't even explain my disdain for this game. A feather boa? Seriously? That's got to be the worst Rockman design ever. This feels like a big joke.

So bland and sucky! I've seen better fan games. This looks like a crappy flash game.
