Takeshi Aono, the Japanese voice actor who portrayed Dr. Wily in a number of Rockman games and related media, has died. He was 76.
Aono portrayed the diabolical doctor for well over fifteen years; his first performance dating all the way back to Rockman 8 in 1996. More recently, he reprised the role in 2010's Rockman 10 Image Soundtrack.
Beyond Wily, Aono provided the voice for a number of legendary anime characters including Space Battleship Yamato's Shiro Sanada and King Piccolo in Dragon Ball. He will be fondly remembered by Metal Gear Solid fans for his role as Colonel Roy Campbell.
I send my deepest condolences to Aono's family. He will be missed.

RIP :(
ReplyDeleteVery sad.
ReplyDeleteThis is the worst thing ever. For me, he was THE voice of Dr. Wily. Such a great voice actor, pretty much nailed Wily's mad yet likable character.
ReplyDeleteMay he rest in peace :(
Aono? Aono!?
ReplyDeleteAONOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
R.I.P Dr Wily..........Takeshi Aono, our friend forever <3
ReplyDeleteOh man. This guy was legendary in the voice acting business. Such a loss. Hope he and his family can find peace.
ReplyDeleteI believe the first words out of my mouth upon reading this were, quote, "Son of a bitch, son of a bitch, son of a bitch!", unquote.
ReplyDeleteHe's was the best Dr. Wily there ever was, damn it. Yes, that's including Ian James Corlett (Captain N: The Game Master) and Scott McNeil (Mega Man US cartoon and English Wish Upon a Star).
Well, this just destroyed my day :(
ReplyDeleteRIP Dr. Wily.
ReplyDeleteHe will be forever remembered in our hearts and in the games. T_T
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've heard his voice portrayal yet (and I call myself a Wily fan...), but he will definitely be missed all the same.
ReplyDeleteCould things get any worse this year?
R.I.P old friend of us.
ReplyDeleteI´m looking how capcom somehow is vanishing before my nostalgic eyes.
Each upcoming news from it is either sad or absurd.
