Strange, right? Well it gets a bit stranger. Get a load of BBAMM's bio:
"Known as a Digger, a person who digs up relics from the past for research. He is a hot-tempered man, but has a strong sense of justice and is also very polite. His weak point is that he is easily rattled when backed into a corner. He is always running around in a hurry due to the demands of his partner Roll, and this time he's been asked to travel to Antarctica to retrieve a mysterious box."
... so, he's a middle-aged Mega Man Volnutt? Okaaay.
BBA Mega Man is currently planned to appear alongside Pac-Man, Toro, Kuro and Cole as PSVita/PlayStation 3 exclusive fighters. It remains to be seen if he will appear in either or both versions.
UPDATE -- Here's an interesting tweet of note from SFxT's producer Yoshinori Ono:
"I consulted with Mr.Megaman(his name is Mr.I...) about it 1 years ago.Its result! ;D"
It would seem Ono actually consulted with Keiji Inafune when considering Bad Box Art Mega Man for the game. This means BBAMM's inclusion was planned way back when Mega Man Universe was still in production. So, yeah; chew on that for a while.
We'll keep you updated when more information drops.
This fucking ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteWhat a disgrace for Megaman
inb4 BAWWWWWW CAPCOM DOESN'T LOVE MEGAMAN
ReplyDeleteNot how I expected him to look, but it's funny nonetheless XD
You finally got him off the moon, guys! Aren't you proud?
ReplyDeleteThat's not funny, Capcom.
ReplyDeleteWhat. The. Fuck.
ReplyDeleteUnbelievable.
ReplyDeleteI'm not gonna care.
OMG, He's soooooooo FAT! WHYY?!!
ReplyDeleteYou'd think they would learn NOT to pull this kind of shit, you REALLY WOULD THINK THAT.
ReplyDeleteWell, at least anyone asking the question "does capcom care about megaman fans" has a definitive answer now. If for some reason they don't, they can ask the dumpy, overweight, scruffy guy in a blue and yellow costume for it.
ReplyDeleteGlad Capcom felt the need to remind us of both the Mega Man games they cancelled last year at once. >=(
ReplyDeleteThis is hilarious. I don't like what they did with Universe and L3, but in this case, good show Capcom.
ReplyDeleteSo, can we grab the torches and pitchforks yet? I haven't been in an angry mob in weeks!
ReplyDeleteSon of a gun...
ReplyDeleteIS *THIS* YOUR IDEA OF 'CELEBRATIO'N, SVENSSON?!
Well, I mean yes, stylize Megaman to fit the game's theme, but...
ReplyDelete...what...is this...
I don't even.
...
ReplyDeleteis it bad that I think this is awsome in a hillarious sort of way?
Why are you so mad, guys? This is what you wanted!
ReplyDeleteCome on guys, lighten up! This is hilarious!
ReplyDeletehuh ? Its disgusting and ridiclous looking megaman. Thanks a lot, CAPCOM!!! DISAPPOINTMENT!
ReplyDeleteshame on you nintendo and capcom usa shame on you.
DeleteFucking mocking legends fans.
ReplyDeleteAss howls.
lol So I guess when megaman hasn't been in any game lately, he decided to be a couch potato?
ReplyDeleteAnyway, this is so humiliating for megaman. I feel sorry for him. Thanks a lot crapcom
MOTHER FUCKERS.
ReplyDeleteI quit.
...
ReplyDeleteUm, wow. Just...wow. It's times like this, when it really seems as if they're making a mockery out of the fanbase.
You know, even if they're consciouly making nods on MMU's Bad Box Art Mega Man character and Trigger's character info...
ReplyDeleteThis is actually pretty fucking awesome.
I mean yeah, I kind of get why you guys would be mad at this, but chill out. It's not like this itineration is meant to be taken seriously as a legitimate character (it's a joke, getting mad at it just makes us look childish). Gotta remember that fighting games are gameplay-driven games, so this kind of stuff is really just a matter of having fun with making cool/funny/quirky/joke/badass characters. This is someone else's take on Mega Man, and they preferred this hilarious take. As far as I'm concerned, this is in the same "it's so bad it's good" level RubySpears MM is.
It's a cameo fighter, a hilarious and slightly trollish take on a hilarious MM meme, and it looks to be just a different take on MvC's Classic Mega's moveset, adjusted to be a hard hitter.
Also, I don't think THIS is the way of celebrating MM's 25th anniversary. But you could always just ask away at the Unity forums. Whatever their answer is, this is still pretty funny and badass.
4 out of 5 lulz.
Guys i expect that i will be condemened for saying and possibly doing this but if i manage to see Ono, Nitsuma, or Killian at a tourney, im am going to one strike at them. 3 seconds, 3 seconds is all i need.
ReplyDeleteI cant believe this is Ca$hcom's self esteem now. Obviously this is spite toward Inafune and his fans for the fact that he built them and are ungreatful for it.
I swear you will know i socked one of them should i get the opportunity.
Okay, so yeah. My initial reaction was all: "They're doing what, now?" Bringing up MMU and Legends 3 didn't strike me as the best of PR moves.
ReplyDeleteBut after seeing the trailer, I can't hate this. It's just so hilariously bad that it's awesome. I'm actually old enough to remember the days before the internet and when the Americanized version of Mega Man was all we had, so I find this to be a nice homage to days long since gone by.
If you want to hate this, hate this. But I'm going to take amusement in it. Great job, Capcom.
That is funny as hell. People get that he's basically a joke character, right? They've been joking about the "bad box art" design with the Wii Megaman titles.
ReplyDelete@MusashiAA
ReplyDeleteTell me, after all the crap Megaman went through in 2011, is it really a good time to be making silly jokes like this?
While I admit they seem to have masterly trolled us fans good, I'm actually interested in this version of him and how he plays. Since he is obviously an alternate universe depiction of him,(or probably a human precurser that came before the REAL Mega Man himself was made). Well in my mind anyway. Though I won't lie that this feels insulting.
ReplyDeleteThreatening physical violence against the designers for this sort of thing is extremely childish.
ReplyDeleteI am a long time Megaman fan, straight from the beginning. I don't like how MMU and L3 both got canned, but I was okay with their character choices for MvC3. Zero, one of Inafune's favorite designs and someone he intended to be the new Megaman in MMX's inception... Tron, someone who was totally irrelevant for years and was gaining momentum off L3 hype (I bet their dev team really wanted to see L3 done too)... and hell, Frank West, from the last new IP he made for Capcom before he left. That's a very solid Team Inafune, and I liked it.
I think this take on Megaman in SFxT is hilarious and actually rather respectful. Look past the silly squat form and the motions are basically just right - this is an excellent way to fit Megaman into the game's style and still have him /be/ him. Pac-Man's inclusion is also equally outlandish but I'd argue it's not really that close a take on his games. In comparison, Megaman got the better deal by far - but both still look very fun!
Now, I do have one bit of rage I would like to make, and boy is it a big one.
Why couldn't us X360 guys get him?! I feel that is the only true point to be angry at.
Seriously, though, threatening physical violence for this? I'd like to think we'd all be better than that.
I've gotten over the MML3 and MMU anger a few months ago and now this... I'm with the people who think it's hilarious. I mean, I've been wanting to see Bad Box Art Mega Man in a game for some time now. Even as a joke character, the footage of him is pretty cool and funny. I can't stay mad at this. I know why people are angry but I think this is all in good fun. I'm sure Capcom will have something in store for Mega Man later on this year.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't sure whether or not I would buy this but I'm sold now. I appreciate a good joke. I'd find it even funnier if this ends up being the Street Fighter Universe version of Mega Man.
I'm sorry to those who are angry but this actually made my day. xD
@Taoqi Qiezei: Yes, we do, and it's just making things worse.
ReplyDeletePlease look at it this way: after everything that's happened, do you really think we want to be told that Megaman's just a joke? Especially on the year of his 25th anniversary?
Why?
ReplyDeleteFirstly, the amount of people that are mad is hilarious. Calling this a disgrace or something shows just how little you guys can take a joke.
ReplyDeleteAnyways, as a Mega Man fan who was very hurt with the cancellation of two Mega Man games in a row, I am absolutely loving this. I am definitely gonna be maining Mega Man and Heihachi for sure! :D
@Model M:
ReplyDeleteWell, I did like a big boy and got over being butthurt over that, and got used to the well-deserved Sleep Mode the franchise is going through after 3 new and quickly burnt out franchises that ended up as flops, and won't hold a grudge towards Capcom because of their stubborness of beating the old MM horse to death just like with every franchise that ends up being a blockbuster.
So yes, I think this is a good time to make jokes like this after what happened, since it's been almost half a year since the first FAN-DRIVEN cancellation, and it's a joke. Because there is no harm done in doing tongue-in-cheek jokes about stuff that shouldn't make mature people mad, right?.
A joke.
JOKE.
I'd like to see this as a message from Ono and perhaps some other devs towards you guys: chill out, grow up, stop being self-entitled brats, and start being MM fans again. You know, the good kind of fans that still loves what the franchise offers after such a long period of time, and demostrates it by showing their love and support for it through whatever medium is possible. I tell you: hatred and grudge holding will lead the franchise and us NOWHERE.
If the only condition for your adoration towards the franchise is the constant churning of MM games out of Capcom's ass, SF3: Third Strike has some news to tell you.
This is what I believe.
*Facedesk*
ReplyDeleteWow. This is an outrage. He's a fat fuck too? Capcom, you disgust me. Seriously...is THIS what Mega Man is to you? A fuckin' joke? Apparently so. "Time to get serious!", Capcom. Seriously...
ReplyDeleteOh, and he is MegaMan Volnutt? Who the FUCK do you have working for you, Capcom? Some stupid shits that don't know what series their friggin' talking about? What the hell? Just kill this suffering dog already, then. The fans don't like this petty nonsense (if you do, you're crazy lol).
ReplyDeleteReally, Capcom? I realize he's just a joke character, but can't you include, I don't know, MEGAMAN, not fat ugly loser Megaman?
ReplyDeleteYou guys are just hilarious. Like, really. I've been a Mega Man fan since I have memory and this brings me a big smile. You guys just need to shut the fuck up and enjoy. Really, this means no harm at all.
ReplyDeleteAnd fat, old and all he's probably more muscular and strong than a good 80% of you guys. LOLOLOL.
How can someone even view this as a joke. It's not funny, nor is it entertaining. It's just a disgrace to everything Megaman stands for.
ReplyDeleteAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
ReplyDeleteWHAT IS THIS ?!?! MEGAMAN IS FAT?!??! DISGRACE!!! DISGUSTED!!! CALLOUS!!! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!?!? CAPCOM!!! YOU...!
AAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGHHH!!! I WILL NOT PLAY THIS SICKENING, FAT, WANNABE MEGA MAN FOR STREET FIGHTERS X TEKKEN!!!

CAPCOM MUST PAY FOR MAKING MEGA MAN A JOKE CHARACTER!!!!!
I am maining BBA Mega Man so hard. Best character in the game
ReplyDeleteCAPCOM CAN DIE IN A RADIANT BLAST!
ReplyDeleteMan...I think that CAPCOM want to kill MEGA MAN....WHY?WHY?WHY?
ReplyDeleteWHY CAPCOM? WHY r U Killing Megaman?!
Anyone else feel like them giving him a backstory based on Legends is some legit trolling?
ReplyDeleteIt kind of feels like Capcom twisting the knife.
W.
ReplyDeleteT.
F.
Icing on the cake of retardedness.
ReplyDeleteIt's rare I used this kind of language around these parts, but... what the fuck is this shit? I don't understand... I get the references to both cancelled games and all, but... why? Why? Why? I can't even get mad at this because I have no idea what it's trying to be. A jab? A parody? What?
ReplyDeleteCongrats CRAPCOM!!! Yeah you convinced to play this game and I gonna do it.
ReplyDeleteI´ll DOWNLOAD your game from PIRATE BAY, gonna put a crack on it to bypass security shits and I´m gonna mock your horrendous last creation!!
FUCK ACTA
FUCK PIPA
FUCK SOPA
FUCK CAPCOM
PD: Have a good day!
@MusashiAA: Here's an idea.
ReplyDeleteTry to understand why people would be upset, instead of assuming that we're "butthurt" and "self-entitled brats".
@TAG and Bad Box Art Mega Ma Fan:
Actually, many people (at TMMN at least) said they'd find this amusing if not for, you know, all the shit that happened in the latter half of 2011. We're not ungrateful bastards, we just don't appreciate the bad timing.
@Joseph Collins:
ReplyDeleteA parody.
Which would be funny at any other point in the franchise's life except for now.
Well, if it's any consolation, this was made by a team completely separate from the Megaman team. This is more like the SF developers taking a jab at Capcom themselves for canceling those two games, and showing the big-wigs what they've done to Megaman.
ReplyDeleteUnlike other people bitching and whining, I think it's kind of cool. It's a nice shout out to the infamous legacy of megaman, and I think it's kind of neat. Honestly, I'd love to see the comical world of MM, BBA style. As a standalone, non-canon game of course, but it'd still be fun.
ReplyDeleteStill, this is an appearance in a fighting game. I am not getting excited or angry at this for the same reason I didn't really care that X didn't make it to UMvC3 - I don't care about fighting games. The only reason I was miffed MM wasn't in it was because of the piss poor excuses used to justify it. It seemed more out of spite to the fandom than an actual reason.
https://twitter.com/#!/Yoshi_OnoChin/status/162749333849120768
ReplyDeleteYoshinori Ono @Yoshi_OnoChin
I consulted with Mr.Megaman(his name is Mr.I...) about it 1 years ago.Its result! ;D RT @kazuyafan94:Lovin Megaman inSFxTK!But why cover art
THIS WAS PLANNED WITH INAFUNE DURING MEGAMAN UNIVERSE
is the model possible to rip from the ps3 disk id love to get this its just too fuckin' cool
ReplyDeleteNot sure if I was credited for this, since it was me who linked it first.
ReplyDeleteBut whateve's, at first I was like "What...." when I seen the images. But then I seen his gameplay, and honestly, he looks quite fun.
So far, my main team now will be Xiaoyu and Mega Man. If Cole is good, he'll be a sub, and for competitions, it'll be Xiaoyu and Ryu.
The only disappointing thing is that since Mega Man is PS3 exclusive, he won't be usable in tournaments. I don't get why they didn't put Pac and Mega on both PS3 and 360. The cats and Cole I understand, but not them.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I just realized.
ReplyDeleteOno mentioned that he had talks with Inafune before he left Capcom about some "stuff".
Maybe this was the result of that conversation? It would make the outrage even more fucking hilarious.
I literally started to laugh out loud.
ReplyDeleteThat's all I have to say.
The BBA cover style really doesn't bother me as much about it; that part I'm actually pretty cool with. It's the bio that really just seems like a slap in the face, and probably what the majority of people who are pissed about it (myself included) are pissed about.
ReplyDeleteGentlemen. And ladies. A notion has been handed to me from someone I was talking to.
ReplyDelete... could it be possible that Bad Box Art Megaman Volnutt was planned from the get-go? Street Fighter X Tekken has been in development for a while now, after all. This could have been part of the cavalcade of the "Rockman Revival" that would have included Mega Man Universe and Rockman DASH 3. Granted that now, it just seems like a slap in the face, but still.
Oh...god...damned...you know, we need to organize ourselves...we're taking revenge against Capcom...
ReplyDeleteI think the term "desperate" could be both appropriate and inappropriate for this one here. He actually looks really awesome, but in a hilariously ridiculous way. They almost seem like they are proud of the original MM1 box art. Juts forget all these 'cross-overs' and 'fighting game cameos' and just revive DASH 3 already.
ReplyDelete@Joseph Collins: Looks like it was always planned. Doesn't explain why they didn't switch him out for a different MM or something, or even remove the reference to MML3 (assuming that was around from the start, too).
ReplyDeleteSo if this was thought up a year ago when MML3 and MMU still existed, it makes perfect sense that this character combines features from both games.
ReplyDeleteAlso funny that the actual source of all this rage is Inafune, whom most of this fanbase currently treats as someone who can do no wrong.
Okay, the update definitely will help.
ReplyDeleteWait wait wait everyone start over. Let me set up my rage catcher.
ReplyDeleteOh. My. Fucking. God.
ReplyDeleteWhat the nine dicks is this. I am so confused.
ReplyDeleteHonestly I think this is kinda funny though, and not really done in any sort of mean-spiritedness.
Welp.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhPeAekdnfk&t=49s
This fanbase. THIS DAMN FANBASE.
ReplyDeleteHonestly now, if BBA Mega Man was already planned back when MMU was still active (and, to an extent, MML3), then that should (or could, since most people on here don't think that way) be enough of a reason to tone down the bitching and whining.
For one thing, IT'S STILL GODDAMN MEGA MAN, regardless of how odd he looks. The majority of the fanbase bitched when he wasn't in UMvC3, and now the majority (which seems slightly less this time?) is bitching because he looks "ridiculous". What, did you expect him to look like an extremely muscular version of X or something like that? REALLY NOW. If every fighting character was a perfect as you guys apparently want this Mega Man to be, all hope would be lost for this fanbase.
For another thing, a lot of you are taking your fandom love too damn far. I understand you'd be upset over MMU and MML3 still, but come on now, Capcom's not going to stop production of other games and series just so they can listen to a fanbase complain about every little thing they did wrong to a series that the company owns and is currently slow on updating. By now it's obvious that Capcom has somewhat wronged the fanbase. WE GET THAT NOW. But the time of mourning and revolution the majority of you have going on right now is going too far. The actions of the fanbase in trying to bring back MML3 is admirable, I will say that. It's respectable, to say that much and not sugarcoat it. But even then, the amount of complaints I've seen from loads of MM fans from the cancellation to now is ridiculous, and is most likely the reason why some fanbases see the MM fanbase as the most negatively batshit insane fanbase of 2012.
This version of Mega Man was practically already decided during a time when the fanbase was at peace. To bitch about it now, when nothing can be done about it, is not and will never be the greatest idea you have ever had.
To those of you who enjoy the idea of Bad Box Art Mega Man, good on ya. To those who will continue to bitch about it, learn to grow up before Capcom drops Mega Man completely thanks to its majority-ruled stubborn-fuck fanbase.
It was Inafune's idea! DEAL WITH IT!!
ReplyDeletePersonally, I think it's funny and cute. Too bad he's a PS3 exclusive and I don't have one.
ReplyDeleteWell, I can see how he's a joke character and everything, so it doesn't bother me too much. It just kind of sucks that this is how they've chosen to portray Mega Man in this game, after the disaster that was 2011. I wasn't hoping for Classic/EXE/Legends Mega Man or anything, but I would've taken any of those over this version of him for sure.
ReplyDeleteI understand the others who are saying that this feels like an insult to the fans, but since it's just a crossover fighting game, taking it as a joke is the best option. Now, if Capcom had announced a new Mega Man game STARRING BBAMM, then I think we'd all rage..
@RADIX: See, what you're essentially saying is that you're not allowed to poke fun at your fanbase for being all pissy and whiny and stuff (whether or not the pissiness and whining is justified, which it is in this case). And that's just dumb. In the end, that's all they're doing. Poking fun. And to say "you can't poke fun at them for being angry after everything that's happened" is ridiculous because that's the whole point of poking fun at them.
ReplyDeleteSorry for the second post, but after seeing the update, @everyone: THERE. NOW SHUT UP AND ENJOY IT FOR WHAT IT IS.
ReplyDeleteThough I STRONGLY suggest you make it its own post rather than simply an update; otherwise people are going to completely overlook it (you KNOW they will :|)
Some quick bit of info here:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXAQqDErsIo
SFxT Pac Man and Mega Man's Super Arts and Cross Arts.
Look at that chubby guy go. Since he has the gun, he automatically wins the tournament!
I'd have to agree on something here: the nod on Volnutt's character is a bit of a painful poke on those still grieving for MML3. Although now we know this was planned even before MMU's cancellation. Still, it could've been easily removed, yet it wasn't.
Maybe they hoped that some particular people wouldn't take it so seriously? I mean, it's a middle-aged fatty running around in a jumpsuit, oozing with determination just by looking at his eyes.
One can only wonder if this old character is but a distant version of a younger one-man-army hero. lol Imagine a game starring an 18-year old BBA MM look-a-like fighting against some Dr. Wily knockoff's army of bio-mechanic humanoids all by himself, a-la God of War or old-school DMC.
You know, there's the belief that this version of Box Art MM was supposed to be a reference to both games BEFORE they were cancelled, meaning that this was planned from the start. That I can understand.
ReplyDeleteHowever, let me just cite something here.
Rareware were once developing Conker's 12 Tales alongside Banjo-Kazooie, and there were many more references to kiddy Conker in the beta of BK. But when Conker was changed to be more adult-oriented, they pulled nearly all of the Conker references (missing at least one or two) from BK before release.
Capcom could have done that. They could have at least ditched the blatant reference to Legends in the character summary, but nope. I guess CoJ thought it would help make it up to the fans, but it's only going to evoke more rage, obviously from what I've already seen.
The nicest assumption I can make is that Capcom's PR department is deaf, blind, and never leaves their offices.
ReplyDelete@TAG: At the risk of sounding like a broken record--it's all about timing.
ReplyDeleteWhether or not these jabs are benign, it feels like they're poking the hornet's nest. If this game came out back in 2010, or if MMU and MML3 survived, most people wouldn't mind.
As for the "pissy and whiny" bit--not everyone is. Lumping them in with those who are is a bad idea.
@MusashiAA: "chill out, grow up, stop being self-entitled brats"
ReplyDeleteWow, it's almost like you're my congressman.
@RADIX: Thank you. Fast as the internet and the world around it moves these days, it's easy to forget that Legends was shut down less than half a year ago.
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah, we sit around and pick apart things like Zero's X costume or bad ports, or Capcom's constant vague teasing. It's easy to point fingers and say they're mocking us even if we only have inferred evidence at best.
This is the first instance that genuinely feels like a cheap shot, even if it wasn't meant to be. The deliberate stab at Legends so soon after the fact is just salt in a wound that remains untreated and is slowly acquiring gangrene.
I rather say this...if their gonna put BBA Mega Man...they could rather make it better like how it was on the original box art...not an old fart-knocker!!!
ReplyDeleteThe fact that Inafune may or may not have given the ok for this shit doesn't mean it's any less of a disgrace
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what to feel. It's humorous and Inafune was consulted (pre-mass cancellation), but the part about the Digger seems like it was wirtten to troll people still butthurt about Legends 3. I'd say it is a joke that goes almost into offense territory.
ReplyDeleteFor me the timing of this is just all wrong. I'm not raging about this, mainly because I saw this coming as soon as this was teased. It was gonna be a stylized Mega Man that was not gonna make me buy the game for.
ReplyDeleteI can see why people are loling at this and yes he is a joke character. Like come on look at this one. Bad designs and is fat on top of things too. I can go on about that for ages but hey, it's not worth it.
So right now I'm just gonna wait for the day they put out a Mega Man game I care about. Not a rehash of old games or re-releases on new platforms. 'm a huge fan and have all his major games, but you don't get my money by slapping Mega into a game.
Think it's time to play some mm2 and hope it gets better.
Alright, It's official, I'm completely done with Capcom's shit. They've only disappointed me, with practically all their new releases. Asura's Wrath is an overglorified Kingdom Hearts 2 based mostly on reaction commands, SFxT's shitty gimmicks that are part of every single game mode, UMVC3's release date (it's a great game though), The obligatory Legends 3 and Universe bullshit, And to kick me while I'm down is the fat lard called 'Mega Man'. He's really let himself go to crap. Crap that I'm happy to not be a part of anymore.
ReplyDeleteFrom a neutral standpoint, this is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO bad that it's good. In contrast, the non-humanoids are closer to the "Oh wow, that's interesting and kinda awesome, haha that's cute" end of the comedy spectrum.
ReplyDeleteThis'd be fine if the series were in its prime. Right now? Just rubbing salt in the wound. Accepting this means that you bring down the average quality of the treatment the series receives. Not accepting this means that Capcom will just screw the series in a cold storage freezer. Either way they probably don't give a damn, and I frankly don't care anymore either.
Though, from a social standpoint, I can understand the decision. Especially since this is basically the last morsel of Inafune-approved work that ISN'T dead or corrupted. I can see why Ono would risk it. Just...I kinda wish they were a bit less naive.
This looks retarded
ReplyDelete@RADIX: They're not saying Megaman himself is a joke. They're looking back after a long 25 years and having a good laugh at the bad in Megaman's career, which in this case would be the box art designs that even Capcom themselves admitted was terrible.
ReplyDeleteThe badboxart Mega Man looks nearly like my dad, except that he's missing a beard... should I be worried?
ReplyDeleteAlso, not funny Capcom.
I understand that it’s a joke. I understand it’s from Inafune, and that makes it awesome.
ReplyDeleteBut that circumstance existed nearly a year ago. Back when NOTHING was cancelled. It’s been what, 5 to 6 months since the last cancellation, a few months from the UMvC snub, and a few months of hearing virtually NOTHING about the anniversary. It’s totally different.
Now if I know some game development processes (which I don’t but I presume I have), a game can lose some original aspects in the course of its development. Now this game was in development when MMU was started, and MML3 was announced (to the best of my knowledge; doesn’t matter because here’s my point) and it even had Inafune’s concept and approval. But being a long time from then, wouldn’t it have been the better idea to scrap the joke, and just put in, say Mega Man in his most known form. Or if they’re stubborn about it, then why not just make him normal Bad Box Art Mega Man, but more this century and not old, and have a bio that fits. I mean, how hard would it have been from Legends’ cancellation to now to change Megsy? How hard could it have been?
All I see are bad choices (don’t get me wrong; I think Ono’s gesture is heartfelt and sincere and childish — the good kind), bad timing, and bad “Top Men” decisions (assuming they did go ahead with the fat BBA Mega Man; if not… Well, yeah).
According to Capcom, over-the-hill Captain MegaMan here IS MegaMan Volnutt grown up...
ReplyDeleteTHAT'S TOO DAMN FUNNY!
As much as I hate Capcom's runaway demolition of the MegaMan franchise, this middle finger to all the pissing, whining Legends 3 advocates is too sweet for words.
This is what your "100,000 strong" and your "Get Me Off The Moon" gets you!
You act like rabid assholes and troll Capcom, they'll pour salt in the wound faster than you can say "P0wned".
It's official, the biggest joke in MegaMan history is now the future of the defunct Legends franchise.
Oh, and just in case you were buying into that bullshit about Inafune collaborating on this idea since day one, just remember that that tidbit of info came from the same people who've been feeding you lies and false information for going on two years now.
Keep fighting the good fight, guys! Maybe in the next game, he'll look like this --> http://aznbadger.files.wordpress.com/2010/10/megaman2.jpg?w=406
Screw you guys; this is hilarious.
ReplyDeleteFuck you Capcom.
ReplyDeleteMusashiAA said things pretty well.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy MM is in a fun/fresh form. It would have been absolutely boring for Capcom to have said, "Fine. You want Megaman? Here's your stupid Megaman and just grabbed basic models from TvC or one of the later X games. Instead they did something creative rather than copy & paste to appease the whiners. What do they get for originality? More whining.

This is hilarious! But...

Haters gonna hate.
Trolls gotta troll.
And for something planned for MONTHS.
Geez. What happened with the Mega Man fanbase? This looks like a 4chan page filled with noobs that love the 1982 E.T. video game, Superman 64 and Duke Nukem Forever!
Here's the bottom line. Whether it was planned with Inafune from the start as a blend of both Universe and Legends 3 is of no consequence. Whatever happened or was meant currently exists as a disgraceful abomination. Truly a joke. If it was a more superhero-like Bad Box Art Mega Man and not a bumbling buffoon, then sure, it would have been interesting. You don't see Sega or Nintendo making a mockery of Sonic or Mario, do you? Of course not. All I can say is I hope there's some killer plans for Mega's 25th.
ReplyDeletexD
ReplyDeleteI lol'ed when I first saw this.
Universe would have been close to completion by this, sadly...
ReplyDeleteScrew Bad Box Art Mega Man. And I hate him. I don't want to play him anymore. Capcom tricked us into thinking Mega Man will not die.
ReplyDeleteGo away, Capcom. You, too, Inafune! Get out of my sight!
Why is he fat?
ReplyDeleteCapcom made Mega Man fatter like obesity because they're planning to kill Mega Man games and move on with new Mega Man with a DmC-style.
ReplyDeleteThat's why Capcom are laughing at our faces. They will pay.

We're going to kill "Megaman", and start selling remakes and new games with the blue bomber as "Rockman" titles. Don't ask how I know.
ReplyDelete@MegaMac
ReplyDelete"You don't see Sega or Nintendo making a mockery of Sonic or Mario, do you? Of course not."
...
Sonic the Hedgehog 2006.
Mario 3-on-3 Hoops.
Unless you meant a Konami-esque parody like this. In which case, I guess you're right. :P
@RADIX: I wouldn't say that Capcom is poking the hornet's nest so much as the fanbase (well, the pissy part) taking it the wrong way. Because, really, the number of people overreacting to this is just sad. Furthermore, when I say whining and pissing, naturally I refer to those who are actually whining and being pissy and especially those who are clearly blowing it WAAAY out of proportion, like Professor Megaman's post over there. *points to Professor Megaman's post*
ReplyDeleteCapcom: "HURRR, LET'S TROLL OUR CUSTOMERS BY STILL NOT ACCEPTING THEIR DEMANDS FOR US TO APPOLOGIZE FOR OUR BLATANT STUPIDITY BY SENDING THEM A SHITTY AMERICAN MEGAMAN TO PLAY IN OUR SHITTY STREETFIGHER X TEKKEN GAME! LOLOLOLOLOLOLO"
ReplyDeleteSeveral Months Later...
Capcom: "LOLBANKRUPT!"
Seriously, I'm a fucking psychic about this crap, so give it a couple months, fellas.
CHILL OUT GUYS! WOULD YOU RATHER HAVE A SERIOUS MEGAMAN CHARACTER IN A FREAKIN SFXT GAME???
ReplyDeleteLET HIM HAVE HIS OWN DAMN GAME
THIS IS A DISGRACE TO THE SERIES. BOTH COMPANIES SHOULD FEEL IMMENSE SHAME FOR THIS. THIS TEASING AND CONTSTANT TROLLING HAS ABSOLUTLEY GOT TO STOP.
ReplyDeleteI MEAN, WHERE THE FUCK DID THAT WOODEN MECHA COME FROM ANYWAY? PAC-MAN HAS NEVER DELT WITH MECHAS AT ALL. NAMCO, YOU ARE SCUM FOR TROLLING US DIEHARD PACMAN FANS.
In all seriousness though, the two seem awesome as joke characters, but not so awesome as franchise fate determiners.
So that's how the original Mega Man looks with his current age!? I wonder how he will look like in his 45th anniversary. Long beard like Dr. Light and bald like Sigma? (lol)
ReplyDeleteI wonder if he is going to Antarctica to chill the angry fans.
@Anonymous Your friendly, neighborhood professor pacman:
ReplyDelete"WHERE THE FUCK DID THAT WOODEN MECHA COME FROM ANYWAY? PAC-MAN HAS NEVER DELT WITH MECHAS AT ALL."
Well, that mecha is based on Mokujin from Tekken, and Pac-Man does ride the Toc-Man mecha in Pac-Man World 3. (Dunno about other games) He is so happy to be in the game he can't take out that smile from his face even if he receives a Shouryuken between the legs (but I doubt someone would pull a Johnny Cage move here), isn't that a creepy and awesome face? Either that or he is lol at the angry MM fans. lol.
I can't help but roll my eyes at the people who did not read the statement that this entire thing was thought BEFORE L3's and MMU's cancellation.
ReplyDeleteSuch as you ProfessorMegaMan. Learn to read?
@Joseph Collins
ReplyDeleteThose games aren't parodies. Those games aren't intentional pokes at the characters. Just look at how Mega Man looks and acts. Just look at his description. It's a complete joke. Sonic and Mario have never been desecrated like that before.
I really don't understand why people are mad at this.
ReplyDeleteDon't pull the "I'm a longtime fan of Mega Man, this is a disgrace" card on me. Chances are I'm older than most of the people who would do that. I grew up with the games on the NES. I remember buying Mega Man 1 when it was released. I think if anything, Bad Box Art Mega is a hilarious nod to his history. Plus, Mega Man really has no business being in the game--his character design just doesn't jive with the rest. BBA Mega actually kinda fits with his hyper-macho aeshetic. And he's funny as hell.
Why was everyone so excited at the prospect of being able to use him in Mega Man Universe, and suddenly it's a "huge disgrace" that he's in a fighting game? I don't get it.
By the way, if you guys want Volnutt in a fighting game, you already have him. In Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, remember?
Bottom line: Chill out. Besides, this is just a fighting game, it's harmless fun. Also, it's only January. With the RE6 reveal being the exception, I think it stands to reason that we won't hear any Mega Man announcements until Capcom attends some kind of game conference or media event, like Captviate or E3.
@ MegaMac
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't an intentional parody, but Sonic 2006, Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic & The Black Knight, and Sonic Unleashed were certainly awful for Sonic's reputation. Because of those games, he became a complete failure in the eyes of critics and the game industry. He was a running joke himself for years. You couldn't read a review without reading several lines about Sonic's "fall from grace." He was swimming in mediocrity. That's what he meant.
This is a funny jab at Mega Man's past. It's like chubby, retro Sonic in Sonic Generations. You are clearly not getting the point here.
Suppose his design came first, which sounds like it. They wanted BBA MM and one that fits into the relative age group of those guys. What better back story could there be that he was a digger, that sounds somewhat plausible for an old coot that probably wears and uses crazy junk he finds. If you had a middle aged crazy looking character what better backstory could you make?
ReplyDeleteJust going to repost what I said at MMN:
ReplyDeleteI initially was offended about the Digger part, because Legends 3 was canceled and it seemed too soon to make a joke about it. It was in development for a while, I guess, so it comes across as bad timing more than anything else. Was this announced while or before Universe was being worked on, before everything spiraled out of control I’m sure everyone would have found it humorous. But after both Universe and Legends were canceled (and Bad Box Art Mega Man was in the former and his description is a corruption of the latter) it comes across as an insult. No harm was meant, although I’d be lying if I said they weren’t trolling (10/10), Looking back on it 24 hours later I appreciate it for its originally intended humor.
tl;dr: It was a joke that would have been hilarious at its conception (since the head honcho talked to Inafune, before he left the company when the two ill-fated titles were in development), but with the bad fortune plaguing the series it really wound up getting more people angry than amused. No harm was meant.
I love it. I can only say more people would be angry if he was supposed to be in the game, and then removed later. This game is gonna be awesome.
ReplyDelete@January 28, 2012 12:05 AM Anon:
ReplyDeleteChubby Sonic was a reference to his orginal sprites and art where he DID have a belly and was shorter! There was a legit, non-offensive, accepted reason behind Retro Sonic's appearance. It was not a jab, Retro Sonic's appearance is literally what he was 25 years ago, not a jab at it.
BBA Megaman however DOES NOT have that excuse.I will say his colour scheme and design improved a bit, but there was no need for the belly. He never had that belly they gave him. BBA Mega was always fit in the boxarts.
Yeah, what the January 28, 2012 3:55 PM Anon said.
ReplyDeleteWhat's wrong with Mega Man's past? The box art is the main focus, it seems, and it's getting kinda silly. "UH HUH,UH HUH LULZ, BAD BOX ART. IT SUCKS, LOL". What the hell is the big deal? A lot of box art sucked back then. If they were going to put any bad box art Mega Man in there, I would have hoped it would have been a respectable looking one or MM2's. Why the hell are they even catering to box art...lol. Fans initially thought it was cute to include the bad box art Mega Man in Universe because it was a little something extra, but as time went on, fans decided they didn't need a lackluster MM2 clone with lackluster level development with friggin' Ryu and others in it. -_-
Would you guys prefer the silver Mega Man from the European MM2 box art?
ReplyDelete"This is my destiny! And if you stay in my way I will take my buster and (censored - dun dun)!"
@Megamac: BBA is a NA thing only. Literally. Japan NEVER experienced him, nor the one in game right now. Think about how they feel right now, having to put up with some retarded version only North America had(the BBA in game was only on North American Boxart), and nothing like the ones they've had.
ReplyDeleteAnd so the trolling continues. This is not what I expected, Capcom. They're mocking us, they must be. After cancelling Mega Man Universe and Legends this is like kicking someone while they're down.
ReplyDeleteYou know... at first I'd forgotten why this was ever a Megaman... but after I remembered the 'bad box art' I think it's epic that they dusted off this incarnation and put him in a video game... with an unspeakably hot Roll, by the fuckin way. Let's be honest: Most of you idiots who are so upset don't get the joke. You just think they created a fat guy in a suit to represent Megaman. I enjoy the joke and I enjoy play against and as BBA Megaman... fuck... at least he isn't Dan Hibiki.
ReplyDeleteI think some people are getting too serious over it.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny!
