Those of you who have been following the news on Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 should already be aware that the cast is receiving a slew of new costumes and alternate colors. Among the ranks of Capcom’s heroes to get a new splash of paint is none other than Zero, whose latest duds are oozing with fanservice.
For those not in the know, the presence of alternate colors help distinguish between players who've chosen the same character -- a staple of the fighting game genre since, well, forever. Mind you, these palette swaps do not alter the character's abilities. It's all for show.
You can read some additional commentary on each new outfit over at GameSpot.
Update: Oh, this made me chuckle. A new video has surfaced highlighting Zero's UMvC3 tweaks. At approximately 2:24 in you'll find a little jab at X's MvC3 exclusion. "If X were here, he would have tried to talk things out first," boasts a victorious Zero. "Unfortunately for you, X isn't here." Ohoho... ouch.
Thanks to Tyler for pointing that one out!

I'd rather have GBD palette swap than another X "consolation prize" palette swap. Which should really be called "salt in the wounds" palette swap.
ReplyDeleteWow Capcom. You are dicks.
ReplyDeleteIts like they are purposely rubbint it in.
HAHA YOU WANT X? HES 1st IN POLLS?
HERE, HAVE A FIRST ARMOR ZERO PALLET SWAP! *trollface*
Fucking hate you Crapcom.
Tron's colors were already shown off over a month ago: http://www.gamespot.com/special_feature/marvelcapcom-breakdown/image-feature/index.html?image=32
ReplyDeleteSomething interesting to note is that Zero's blue color scheme from the original game, the one that looked like Mega Man or X, is no longer present--maybe they have something in mind for the future with that color scheme?
Tron's colors were actually revealed already a few weeks ago. :)
ReplyDeleteReally love the Megaman Zero and Vile colors. Interestingly, the original X color that Zero had is gone. Several other characters have had colors removed like this, and I've seen speculation that these will be DLC costumes. I'd prefer X as an alternate costume for Zero rather than a seperate character anyway. It'd be nice to see another Megaman series represented if we get new characters.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Tron's alternate colors were revealed some time ago. She has awesome Tiesel and Bon colors. Too bad the alt with the Gustaff and Servbot having their colors switched was removed, I really liked that one.
Wow, a costume based on Armor X? Capcom, why don't you just ADD X already!
ReplyDeleteAnd to be fair to that quote X usually tries to find alternate means to resolve an issue, leaving fighting as a last resort.
@WilyNumber13
ReplyDeleteI'm fairly certain the three alt outfits from the previous game are still in and these are just newer ones, it's what they're doing for most of the characters anyways.
@2nd Anon: Nope there are only 6 colours for characters in UMvC3. What you see is all of them. Zero isn't the only character to have an old colour scheme removed from the original MvC3.
ReplyDelete@Anonymous
ReplyDeleteNo, take a look at the actual page and you'll see all 6 of his Ultimate colors, the blue color from the first game isn't there anymore. Other characters have also lost certain color schemes (or had them slightly altered) so it's common practice here.
Zero's new quote proves we're being trolled. Seriously, it's like they're pouring a whole salt shaker into a cut.
ReplyDeleteHere they go again, giving Zero X's color scheme, kicking the fanbase in the nuts even further. This is no different from what they did with Bass' blueprints in Mega Man 9.
ReplyDeleteI don't see the point in getting upset over this at all. I'm still convinced that DLC's a high possibility for Megaman, and the negation of the normal X costume could very well be an indicator.
ReplyDeleteSure, Capcom's trolling, but that's the fun part. They may in fact be hiding something; remember that UMvC3 isn't even completed yet, let alone released. Nothing worth getting upset over at all; some things just aren't worth being taken so seriously.
I think the real crime here is the lack of Black/Nightmare Zero. How they skipped costumes from the source material is beyond me. Vile color is pretty stylish, though. ^_^
As for X not being in, please see the final words of my article on mmx9.com. Latest one. Sure, it seems like ultimate trolling extravaganza, but maybe there is a tiny sliver of hope yet, eh? A comment posted in the article says a similar instance happened with Wesker wearing Vergil's colors then Vergil making it in and that color swap for Wesker now gone. Check it out.
ReplyDelete*claps*
ReplyDeleteWell trolled, Crapcom, well trolled... Now go die, please. :D
WHERE IS NIGHTMARE ZERO ALT COSTUME???
ReplyDeleteWHY ARE CAPCOM PUTTING X'S FIRST ARMOR ALT COSTUME ON ZERO?
WHY ARE THEY TROLLING US FOR NO REASON??? ARE THEY INSPIRE TO TROLL US???
WHY???
WHY???
WRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRY?????
I don't care that X didn't make the cut. I would like to have seen him there, yes, but it isn't the deal-breaker for me. The thing that gets my biscuits burning is the fact that they are making a game for the most powerful console platform and are still using palette swaps.
ReplyDeleteThat is freaking pathetic. This is 2011, not 1993. That crap worked back in the days of Mortal Kombat, but now it is just phoning it in (like usual). Actual different costumes take an ounce of effort that can go miles with fanservice. It bothers me, Capcom.
@MNV
ReplyDeleteUmm, you know that characters have to use different colors in fighting games to tell the difference when 2 different people are using them, right? Capcom is using palette swaps because actual costumes change the geometry of the character model. Besides, Capcom already said that every character is getting a real alternate costume, we just have to be patient.
Disappointment. We want Rockman X now!
ReplyDelete@MNV
ReplyDeleteYou know I find the Mortal Kombat comparison a bit ironic as even that franchise has had alternate outfits since Deadly Alliance, in 2003.
Capcom's just holding them off so they can sell them for DLC.
It's not so much "fanservice" as it is dangling meat over the dog's head and not letting him have it.
ReplyDeleteThey're not being gratuitous, they're being cruel.
@Krazy Monkey:
ReplyDeleteThe only difference here is that Capcom finally gave in and added Bass in MegaMan 10.
It'll be a cold day in hell before Capcom allows another "MegaMan" into another fighting game...
or action game...
or RPG...
or any game period.
Our new Zero comes in three new colors: Vile, MMZ, and Peppermint.
ReplyDeleteCRAPCOOOOOOOOOOOM
ReplyDeleteDear fifth Anon: That is neither the proper pronunciation of that phrase nor the proper usage. Please stop.
ReplyDeleteKnow what would be great fan service? Having Mega Man. I'm still not buying this game until he's in it.
ReplyDeletePlease, just stay salty, rest of the fanbase. Even if they really did put Mega Man or X in you'd find a reason to bitch about it because you guys are literally unpleasable at this point.
ReplyDelete^^You are giving Wily a bad name.And that is saying something.Also are you sure this is a good place to troll.I mean is your facebook account banned or smth?
ReplyDeleteWell this is Trollcom at its best people.....hopefully
Come on guys. If anything, that quote seems more like a very subtle hint that X might actually be on his way via DLC.
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling the "Unfortunately for you, X isn't here" line was directed staight at us.
ReplyDelete@Nick
ReplyDeleteThat's what I'm thinking. We've seen gameplay videos and photos of literally every character aside from Rocket Racoon (to my knowledge) and Phoenix Wright. It's been hinted that his standing light is just showing documents and crouching light is just searching for clues, Which in itself is a hint that he's completely useless if two 'attacking' moves dont attack, and we all know how much Capcom hates joke characters. I'm thinking they've been working on a Megaman this whole time, Hell the only picture we have of phoenix is the UMvC3 picture, which anyone can easily make.
@WilyNumber13
ReplyDeleteI don't understand why you're insinuating it is unreasonable to be mad at capcom for not putting megaman or x in UMvC3. They cancelled all the games and more or less proved that they don't believe MM is important enough to be part of "gaming's greatest crossover". It's perfectly natural to be "salty", as you put it.
@Kips
ReplyDeleteThe Phoenix picture came from Capcom themselves and some beta testers released some information about him you've just got to look for it. You're really grasping at straws here and it's frankly pathetic looking.
I'd say X for sure isn't getting in, or at least in this version.
ReplyDeleteHowever, removing the Megaman colours from both Zero AND Tron(the swap one kinda looked like it) may mean something. It may mean A Megaman, which is definitely not X, is coming as DLC.
Watch for Frank's debut trailer. If he is directly ripped from TvC, and has the Servobt Head Hyper and Real Megabuster Hyper, then's it's X for sure is not showing up and Volnutt may be the one that is coming. This makes sense as it would be easier to get him in with minor nerfs/buffs since he already has a model to use unlike the others and a decent moveset which has the Megaman multi-weapon feel to it, all the while showing Capcom is lazy.
If Frank DOESN'T have his TvC moveset nor the hypers.... Then it could be any Megaman that pops up.
@Kips
ReplyDeleteThose two things can be actual effective attacks in the game, you know. Servbot had an attack where he set a dinner table in Marvel 2. It did actual damage. BB Hood had a tripping attack and a sneezing attack in the Darkstalkers series, but she wasn't a joke character.
And there has been more seen of Phoenix--his 3D model can be seen in a promotional picture, he's featured multiple times on the official website, screenshots where his name can be seen in the game have surfaced, and Seth Killian has talked about him a fair bit, even saying that he may be his favorite character in any fighting game ever.
Not sure where you got the idea that Capcom hates joke characters so much either; Dan Hibiki is one of the most beloved Capcom characters there is!
@Nick
ReplyDeleteOr it could be even worse, instead of a DLC it could be a whole new packaged game...
inb4 Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 X
or Omega Marvel vs Capcom 3
Of course, it IS possible that Capcom is saving Mega Man/X/Sigma/whatever for DLC. Given that there's clearly a demand for Mega Man characters in MVC3, it could be a smart albeit cynical move to nab some extra cash from fans.
ReplyDeleteHey Protodude, I don't know if I can put this information here, but I tell you that the Gametrailers' ScrewAttack have added a new movie introducing Mega Man: The Power Battle arcade game.
ReplyDelete@protodude: just so you know, there are a couple different outfits in SSF4 (possibly arcade edition only, don't remember. check shoryuken.com) that do alter some of the aspects of the characters they're for, but slightly. which is to say that this game may have the same issue, but since zero only seems to have recolors, i don't think there would be a change at all, like you said. just letting you know that alternate costumes can in fact, alter gameplay.

I'm not mad about the X1 armor swap. They probably did it to kinda promote Bandai's D-Arts of X1 Armor X. But the win quote?
ReplyDeleteYeeaaah.
STFU, Capcom.
Man, that boils my brisket. He's only been the #1 request in EVERY FREAKIN' POLL INCLUDING A JAPANESE ONE.
*sigh* ....I'm done paying for Capcom games until they get their heads out of their asses. Glad my stuff is hacked.
I like how the Zero color scheme was applied. My only gripe is that why didn't they take off the shoulder armor. It would have looked much more like MMZ Zero.
ReplyDeleteAs to the Light Armor pallete and the line.... I hate you Capcom.
To expand on what hylianknightmare was saying, some of the DLC costumes in Street Fighter 4 alter their characters' hitboxes VERY slightly (so slight, in fact, that it wasn't even noticed for many months). But the color swaps which are also present in that game do not change anything. These are also just color swaps so Protodude was right in saying that they don't alter gameplay.
ReplyDelete@ wolfshadow: that's not something i'd be bragging about these days man :) da lawman crackin' down on da haxorz lately.
ReplyDeletehmm... so zero COPIED a VILE version of himself X times. nice.
ReplyDeleteand fully agree with flame. although, without the expletives.
and agree with the first anon as well. GBD FTW IMO!
THIS --> http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p48/ProfessorMegaman/FuckYouCapcom.png
ReplyDeleteI dunno if this is Capcom being dicks intentionally or rubbing in his lack of inclusion. I mean, if they were gonna make alternate colors for him based off other characters, why NOT do an X-colored one?
ReplyDelete@ProfessorMegaMan:
ReplyDeleteI'd say that's a fairly appropriate response.
I think that Capcom should change their logo to this: http://knowyourmeme.com/photos/174684-legends-never-die
it just goes to show that capcom knows what they're doing. attacking mega man fans. at this point, tron and zero may not have even been included had they not already been in the first MVC3.
ReplyDeletethen again, i prefered zero in TVC instead of MVC3. i think he kinda got taken down a notch. i couldn't perform his lengthier ground combos anymore.
someone needs to sit on ebay and watch. i think we'll soon be seeing red and blue robot parts being sold online from someone called scrapcom.
