As April Fools' comes to an end, it's best to take this story with a bit of caution. Anthony Jones, talented conceptual artist and college professor to PRC reader LinkFreak, has apparent been tapped to design a teaser poster for an upcoming animated Mega Man film (pictured right).
Specific details about the project are few and far between, but one thing is for sure: it's coming out next April.
Anthony had this to say on his official blog:
"Here is a poster design I did for a team who's working on making an animated version of our beloved Megaman, can't give too many details, but they said it's cool to start the buzz. They will be announcing it soon. I CAN'T WAIT!"
It is unclear if the film is official or a fan production; Anthony didn't specify. However, a glance at Anthony's LinkedIn profile indicates he's worked on a number of projects for several high profile companies in the past. Question is, would a conceptual artist of his caliber contribute to a mere fan-film? Something to ponder on.
LinkFreak speculates the project will be an animated short as opposed to a full-blown feature. Aside from these tidbits, however, that's all the info we've got on this curious project right now.
We'll be keeping an ear out. Thanks for the tip, LinkFreak

ReplyDeleteHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Oh, wow. Is that for real?
God, I hate that MegaMan look....
ReplyDeleteLate April fool's joke? Idk I have trouble believing any big reveals around this time, especially when it's something really awesome.
ReplyDeleteIf that's how Mega Man's going to look, I hope we all answer with a resounding "ewwww."
ReplyDeleteWell, uh...
ReplyDeleteWHAT.
Well, with THAT face, I'm sure Wily would just die from...endless mockering. It looks really ugly. I hope that's not the final design :S.
ReplyDeleteProhint: ROCKMAN IS AN ANIME STYLED CHARACTER. Mega Man was, is, and should always be the same shit as Inafune's Rockman, character-wise. These preposterous attempts at picturing Mega Man as a western, realistic styled series are disgusting and flawed, because as far as I know, this is certainly not what the western Rockman fanbase wants. THOSE ARE THE FPS NEWPUPPIES NEXT DOOR.
I want my Mega Man like my Rockman: LIKE AN ANIME CHARACTER. AND DONT YOU DARE FORGETTING IT.
Jeez.
I had to get that thing out of my chest.
That's just gross looking.
ReplyDeleteI really do not like it when Mega is depicted like that sort of thing...
I blame the American boxarts.
And as I thought the mega man hatedom starts bashing only based on a single image, you really are predictable children.
ReplyDeleteAnd as I thought, the mega hatedom starts bashing based on just one image, you really are predictable children.
ReplyDeleteI think I'll also add that I'm starting to think some fans take the whole Mega 'Man' thing seriously. I mean, just because Rockman/Megaman has 'Man' in his name, doesn't mean he has to look like a full-grown man, freaky or not, which I also find to be common in some fanart as well as various fan movies. I mean sure, I like it when people take their own takes on something, but I've seen far too many works where Mega looked like a muscular, tall dude to the point where I'm just sick of it.
ReplyDeleteNot only is Mega supposed to look anime-styled, but according to this one magazine, his Fixed A.I. Age is supposed to be 9 years old. (That said, maybe his dub voice in MM8 was a bit accurate in regards to his age even though he looked more like a teen in its artwork.) And as much as I would like it to be kept that way, not too many people realize that either.
In short, agreeing with MusashiAA.
Oh and, Mega's design in this looks like it would be better suited for an alien movie. Reminds me way too much of those kinds of films.
I want to see a change in this movie-version look before I consider getting excited about it.
ReplyDeleteIt's like with the Tribute art book art reveal of Mega Man styled like The Tick, they show it at Capcom Unity website (on March 31 2011)... Mega Man was NEVER meant to look ass-ugly, he's supposed to be ANIME style!
If that piece of art actually got into the Tribute book, Capcom/Udon will NOT get ONE CENT outta me, you hear? NOT ONE CENT!! >.<*
I will have lost faith in their ability to chose good Mega Man art for this once-in-a-lifetime Tribute contribution opportunity. Mega Man as the Tick. Ha. I laugh.
I hope they showed that for the reason it DIDN"T get in the book. THERE I SAID IT!
People want a TRIBUTE... not a fugly MegaTickMan.
April Fool's joke again, even on the 2nd?
ReplyDeleteIn regards to the topic, hope he does MM justice. Even an animated cartoon and not anime OVA would satisfy my MM cartoon wants.
Plfrff, yea, this is fake.
ReplyDeleteIt's always good to do jokes early in the morning, before people have been dodging hoaxes for a whole day.
Oh God, what the hell is that thing!? That's not Mega Man!
ReplyDeletewow, that is one of the ugliest renditions of Mega Man i've ever seen.
ReplyDeleteCan this be some sort of late April Fool's joke? Cuz......yeah, I'm sorry, but that doesn't look good at all (unless that's just some really bad promotional art and the actual design looks.....well, better). D:
ReplyDeleteerrrr..He kinda scares me with that scary face of his. he kinda reminds me an Extraterrestrial...some reason
ReplyDeleteThat helmet looks like X's without the gem :S You sure he's looking at the right Megaman art? XD
ReplyDeleteReally hope this is a joke, because it actually looks worse than Megaman Universe =P
ReplyDeleteHmmm *rubs chin like Doppler*...that is all.
ReplyDeleteOh and as for how he looks, he looks kinda like the "I like Turtles!" zombie kid, lol.
ReplyDeleteComments in the posts have been pretty negative lately. Just an observation.
ReplyDelete*loads shotgun*
ReplyDeleteGot my grain of salt, no April Fool's for me!
LOL F.U.G.L.Y.
ReplyDeleteScary shit, too. Please tell me this is joke. :C
@Anonymous #3 complaining about MegaTickMan: Well while I'd normally agree with you, the Tribute book is SUPPOSED to have variety. That's what UDON has been looking for, heck, even the Street Fighter and Darkstalkers tribute books have VARIETY as well. And let me tell you, I've seen A LOT of previews of worthy artwork that didn't look like 'MegaTickMan'. A lot.
ReplyDeleteBut even if 'MegaTickMan' doesn't get in, the book will still have similar kinds of artwork, so then I guess you're just not going to have to buy it then.
I REALLY hope this is another April Fool's prank, because that is a hideous poster.
ReplyDelete*sigh* But, as a fan, I really shouldn't complain. I can only hope that, should this turn out to be true, that the art style receives an overhaul. That picture might induce nightmares...
Oh my god, what is this abomination??
ReplyDeleteDear lord, that's fugly.
ReplyDeleteHaha, that is obviously fake. Never mind that Capcom would never allow them to cater Mega Man to murders/rapists (judging by the design) but it is waaaay too late to announce a Mega Man movie that comes out in a year. This is Capcom. They announce and make a big deal out of movies that are just barely in the works.
ReplyDeleteNice try Professor Trix, but you are ten years too late.
@ Dr. Jerk
ReplyDeleteSays you who said earlier about the movie promo, "That's just gross looking."
And MegaTickMan is NOT?
Who in there right mind...?!
XD
he looks. so. fucking. BADASS!
ReplyDelete@Anonymous who responded to me: I didn't say that this movie MM looked better than MegaTickMan.
ReplyDeleteAt least MegaTickMan looks better than... that.
It's MegaMIND, not MegaMan.
ReplyDeleteFunny joke... not!
This looks awesome. Haters gonna hate. I'm hoping it's some kind of animated reboot that spawns some serious styled MM games. You guys that want nothing but cute shit, need to remember that we have been getting cute Rockman/Mega Man for YEARS. It's time for a different interpritaion. Nothing wrong with this, it's better that the Chibi BS.
ReplyDelete@turianx9: Your definition of 'chibi' is wrong. Chibi refers to something along the lines of 'small' and 'super-deformed', to say the least. Mega has only been like that once, for the Sega Saturn version of MM8.
ReplyDeleteAnd MM has been depicted in this way many times before. What, you just noticed now?
Wow, so much hate here! o.o ... Mm... I am the only one who likes so much the idea? xD
ReplyDeleteMy definition is spot on. Your interpritation is off. I was talking about the powered up mess that you guys lap up. That is chibi, sd, whatever. It's the same thing.
ReplyDeleteOkay then I forgot about Powered Up.
ReplyDeleteThat only makes two then. Whereas everything else was 'non-super deformed anime styled'.
waow, the weeaboos and trolls really went to town on this post....... in any case, Megaman shouldn't look gaunt. I think that's the main thing that's wrong with the artist's depiction.
ReplyDeleteanother troll throwing around the weeaboo word. shocking.
ReplyDeleteWhew...
ReplyDeleteWhen I first saw this, I thought it was MegaMan Tribute art.
Glad it ain't.
Wanting Megaman not to look cute is like wanting Astro Boy not to look cute. It just doesn't work at all.
ReplyDelete@ anon who mentioned Astro Boy
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU! Another good point why this design of MegaMan SHOULDN'T be allowed. :)
And I LOVE Astro Boy.
Theres a saying that goes something like "If it's not broken, don't fix it." I think most of the people who commented here fortunately go by that. :)
no that cant happen
ReplyDeleteGood god! (vomits)
ReplyDeleteMama mia!!! What's with Mega Man?! They should redesign him now. This is just painful to the eyes. D:
ReplyDeleteJust found the artist's dA. This was his April's fools joke, there is no movie being made.
ReplyDeleteAn April Fools joke!? Jesus Christ!
ReplyDeletePraise the Lord, my prayers have been answered!
It's a miracle! Hallelujah!!!
:D
God loves you.
