Third Party To Develop For DSiWare--Will Capcom Follow Suite?

According to a recent IGN report, Namco-Bandai is gearing up to support DSiWare, Nintendo's downloadable service exclusively for the Nintendo DSi:

"Timed nicely (although most likely coincidentally) to coincide with the announcement of the DSi's US release, Namco Bandai revealed itself to be the first third party publisher to support the DSiWare download service. The company shared first details on three upcoming titles with the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu. "

It was previously believed the service was only limited to first party applications, so this comes as great news. Is this a sign of what's to come? If so, can we expect Capcom to hop aboard the bandwagon? If Wednesday's announcement is any indication, I say it's a possibility.

Speaking of DSi, anyone planning on picking it up?

  1. How much is Dsi gonna cost state side?

  2. The main use of my DS is to play GBA games, so I doubt I will buy the DSi anytime soon. Though if there is something I would want on the DSi, I may buy it, but not any time soon.

  3. I skipped the DS lite and kept my DS fat... the hinge is broken but it still works. I too usually play GBA games on it (particularly EXE2 right now-- skipped owning that one and came back to it.) and the DSi's lack of a GBA port is off-putting. I may grab a DS lite since they'll be inevitably cheaper.

The DSi just doesn't work for me. (even the name gets on my nerves) The camera features are negligible and I can do without DSiWare for the time being. But who knows, if I find a deal maybe I will pick one up.

  5. Tobes and Anon2 pretty much summed up my view. My DS fat's L button died, but I held out on replacing it because I kept thinking "As soon as I buy a lite, they'll come out with a new system and I'll be pissed." But when I heard about the DSi and it's lack of a GBA slot, I went ahead and got the lite. Considering how much I play MMZ3, there is no way I could go back to my GBA.

Besides, between my laptop and cell phone, I can 1-up just about everything the DSi can do.

  6. I take it back... they haven't learned from their mistake with IHX and releasing games on systems that nobody owns.

  7. My brother recently sold his DS lite and is preordering the DSi already, but I can't. I've barely started using mine and I intend to keep it until it breaks. The only reason I'll have for getting the DSi will be when they announce the handheld version of the virtual console.

  8. I was thinking of getting a DSi but since it doesn't have a GBA slot I don't think I'll get one, I'd rather stick to my DS Lite unless they release GBA games to the virtual console at a cheap price. Then I might get a DSi.

  9. It seems stupid to me to remove the GBA slot. GBA functionality is way better than any DSWare game they'll make for at least a year, and the lite proved that it could be included without major bulk. I'm ashamed at Nintendo for the DSi... it could have been a whole lot better.

I have a feeling that Capcom will stick to standard DS games for now. I'm not sure what the industry is going to do with DSWare... or if it will be successful.

  10. Im definately getting the Dsi. Still got my old, phat ds. My white DS lite and will happily welcome the Dsi to my handheld collection. Im mostly getting it for the possibility that capcom will indeed get involved with the downloadable content the online store will provide for the Dsi. We never got Megaman mania but you never know, we might just get all 5of those old gameboy megaman games, as downloadable games. Here's hoping to see those games someday again!

Interesting idea for another Rockman universe. You don't have to publish this comment. You can just take the link and maybe make a post about it. ^^
