It's ...@AnonymousNovember 16, 2019 at 10:44 PM

It's alright. Like I mentioned, there are certain perceptions that really rub me the wrong way, so sometimes I get heated faster than I should when discussing them. I apologize for that. I do think that supposed lull you mentioned were caused by a number of factors, but they are essentially all Capcom's responsibility, so while we may disagree a bit there, I can appreciate what you're trying to say and why.

I think a part of the problem the franchise had was that Capcom strayed a bit too far for too long from what was already proven successful. In a way it's admirable that they were so experimental and gave us some games that we might not have gotten otherwise even if they weren't commercially successful. But they seemed to forget for a while that Classic, X, Battle Network and Zero were all successful for so long for a reason. They seem to be relearning that now as fans are responding in kind. At least that's how it feels to me.

Not only that, but this could open up a door for more fans since they are doing things like packaging a series that did suffer from poor promotion like ZX with something that was widely successful like the Zero series. Maybe help bridge some gaps. I don't mean to imply that the fans are completely at fault, nor Capcom; I merely meant to say that perhaps lack of proper advertising may have caused a lull in the zeal of Mega Man fans, perhaps causing some folks to forget what an amazing and worthy franchise it really is, especially compared to so many others. Forgive me if I didn't make sense or spoke out of line; I wish to be on good terms with everybody. :)

I, too, appreciate very much the recent fan response towards the Classic and X Legacy Collections; it thrills me to see so much enthusiasm lately, and I hope this Mega Man fire will keep going strong! I wasn't in any way trying to put them down for that; I was talking about before these recent collections were released, when it seemed that no one on the face of the earth even knew these wonderful games existed. Now fans are coming out of the woodwork, and for that I am truly grateful and amazed! I mean, I ...@AnonymousNovember 13, 2019 at 4:15 PM

I mean, I suppose in theory fans could have taken it for granted, but I don't really understand how that works in this context. Could you explain why you think that way? I don't really see how the advertising, or lack thereof, could lead to fans taking a series for granted.

No matter what way I try to think of it, the problem that comes to mind first and foremost if that Capcom over saturated the market, which is not the fault of the fans.

I should clarify, I'm not trying to pile on Capcom by any means. I'm glad they're doing things with the series again. I just want to identify the mistakes they made and hold them accountable so we can call them out on it if it looks like they are going to start repeating the mistakes. I'm tired of fans constantly being thrown under the bus for stuff like this, and seeing a comment that tried to frame it like fans were in the wrong for some of them being critical of a release, instead of praising them for putting their money where their mouths were, despite the fact that plenty of them already owned the games in the Legacy Collection to show their support, it irritated me.

Fans deserve a ton of praise for their showing of support, and have for a long time in my opinion. That doesn't have to come at the expense of Capcom, I'm just tired of seeing fans thrown under the bus and that comment rubbed me the wrong way. I apologize if it came across like I was trying to put down Capcom for anything other than what the original comment seemed to be implying. I think Capcom's advertising department is really only partly to blame; I think perhaps it may have even led many fans TO take it for granted, and then when you have other major gaming titles being released that pulls fans away from Mega Man's limelight and people tend to forget about it. But I honestly sense that Capcom is at least making an effort now, so I wouldn't just go and pile it all on them, y'all. It doesn't seem like you're arguing in good faith.

I don't even know what you're trying to say. Do you want me to say something along the lines of "Capcom isn't responsible at all for the handling of its own franchise and is completely infallible. Anything and everything wrong with the series is the fault of the fans" or something to that effect?

Why do you want to dismiss things like over saturation and Capcom's mediocre marketing of the series as just "excuses" when they are things that legitimately hurt franchise sales? Not just Megaman at that.

The franchise has a history of, in Capcom's own words "strong sales" throughout the Classic, X, Zero, and Battle Network series. I'm not saying they had a bunch of million sellers, but they sold well and could have absolutely sold better if they had been treated a bit better. Do you disagree?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4080026879350344019.post-36925600943362610462019-11-12T13:16:59.017-06:002019-11-12T13:16:59.017-06:00What is all this nonsense about fans taking things...What is all this nonsense about fans taking things for granted?

They pumped out so many games without advertising them because they kept selling, not caring about actually promoting the games to grow the audience or that they were over saturating the market. They just kept pumping them out because people kept buying them. They took their audience for granted if anything.

They just ran out of luck when they strayed too far from what people wanted (see also: Starforce and ZX, though in the latters case, lack of promotion really hurt it as hardly anyone knew those games existed.) and decided that meant nobody wanted any more Megaman games full stop.

I don't know what it is about Mega Man specifically that makes people not want to hold Capcom accountable. Nobody blames Dead Rising fans for the poor sales of 4, because they made a game nobody was asking for. Meanwhile all Megaman fans get thrown under the bus because people who liked Megaman Classic, or X or Zero didn't care for the gameplay of something as different as Starforce.

I'm glad things have turned around for the franchise now, but we shouldn't just ignore the ways it was mismanaged or the things that nearly buried it are just going to happen all over again.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4080026879350344019.post-51604862341986330552019-11-12T13:13:53.234-06:002019-11-12T13:13:53.234-06:00@9:22 AM: Oh yeah I remember the absurd poor, adve...@9:22 AM: Oh yeah I remember the absurd poor, advertising/quality and over saturation excuses.
