Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1+2 Input Lag Test Across All Platforms


I'm sure most of us out there have been enjoying the recently released Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1+2. However some have noticed that there is a fair bit of input delay especially in some of the earlier titles (X1-X3).

Well the good folks over at GigaBoots have certainly put the time and effort in on this video & have tested the input lag on all the X titles on all systems to find out which version of MMXLC1+2 displays the least amount of lag. This includes the Switch (docked and portable), launch Xbox One consoles,  Xbox One X, PS4, and PS4 Pro all compared against original SNES hardware as well as the SNES Mini version of X1. On top of that, they even went so far as to try many different control methods with each console too!

So which console has the least amount of lag across all 8 titles? Check out the video above – the results may surprise you! What do you guys think? Have you noticed any lag while playing the MMXLC1+2 yourself?

  1. While I've had a lot of fun with the Legacy Collections, I did get a bad first impression due to playing X1 first out of all the games. I own the Switch versions, and yeah, while X1 is playable, it's definitely not the version of choice for me. I was actually somewhat concerned there was something wrong with my controller, until I tried out the other titles.

  2. That's a damn shame. I was considering buying MMX Legacy Collection 1 later this week too. Looks like I will have to stick with the MMX Collection that was released for the PS2 and Gamecube.

    1. Same here. I've played the original games a ton of times, and have not noticed any delay on PS4. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong compared to all these testers. Hell my TV isn't even on game mode.

  4. XBO and XB in general have better response times generally because they have improper v-sync implementation which a lot of the time isn't functional and causes screen tear.

    If they continue tests on other games they will find most games dating back to the XB360 when compared to other platforms will have quicker response times outside of PC with v-sync off but they will also fin screen tearing.

    Personally I'd take a reasonable amount of screen tear over input latency anyday, wish there were an option in consoles to turn it off if wanted easily.

    1. It's possible but I do not think they will patch out input latency unless a large amount of people complain about it... More than I think actually bought the game.

  6. These guys are doing something wrong. A normal player will start to notice input lag around the 32ms mark, while someone with higher sensitivity or actively looking for it will often notice around the 18ms mark. The TV must also be taken into account. At 132ms+, the PS4 Pro version of X1 would be virtually unplayable. Thankfully, it isn't.


    Also, Xbox 360 had some incredible Vsync when done right. A shame how they did it with the One.

  7. I'm very curious how my setup could be any different from others. I've completed all 8 games across the two collections and I didn't encounter any control issues whatsoever. I play through Mega Man X on my original Super Nintendo, on my 3DS, on my Wii U, on my Gamecube, or wherever it might be, somewhere, at least once a week. Mega Man X Legacy Collection seems like one of the better versions to play, in my experience.

    1. Some people just aren’t sensitive to input lag, we are talking milliseconds afterall. They were using an OLED so there setup is going to be among the best/accurate possible.

    2. Further illustrating they have done something wrong. No OLED on the market (to my knowledge) has an input delay less than 20ms. Not bad by any means, but plenty of monitors are at 10ms or lower. Some LCD screens come very close to 10ms as well. A CRT - where the originals should be played - will show even better results. Of course, nobody wants a CRT over 32".

      If the lag was anything like described in these results, you would easily notice it on every game played here except X1 on the SNES. Which you would still notice, just not easily.

  8. I suspect that if we could test people who don't have input lag, against those that do, the setups would be different and the results would too. I honestly suspect that it varies.
