Mega Man Movie Reportedly in Development From Catfish Directors

Two years ago Twentieth Century Fox were said to be developing a Mega Man movie for the big screen. Today, The Hollywood Reporter brings word that not only is the film in development but Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, the filmmakers behind the documentary Catfish, are in talks to write and direct.

THR confirms Chernin Entertainment is producing the project with Masi Oka (you might remember him from NBC's Heroes). Twentieth Century Fox worked two years to acquire the film rights to Mega Man, and finally closed a deal earlier this year. No other details were disclosed at this time.

Now, this news doesn't outright confirm a Mega Man movie will actually happen. That is to say, video game to film adaptations are announced all the time; more often than not, though, little comes to fruition. Still, interesting news nonetheless. We'll be keeping tabs on this.

  2. I'm never prepared for this feeling of dread... Whether it's Dragon Ball Evolution, the KOF movie, whatever, my reaction is always the same breathless "oh no..." when I learn of its existence.

  3. If it's not animated, than no thanks. Mega Man doesn't belong in live action.

  6. Why so serious?!?!!

I hear complaints all the time about lack of content and no games and nothing but merchandise from Capcom. We get news of a movie and everyone is sad face emoji??

People put some good vibes in the air. Let's put some good thoughts out into the universe and let's hope these guys love the character as much as we do.

    1. Oh good Lord.
The Super Mario movie didn't killed Mario. Neither Street Fighter movies killed Street Fighter.
And Sonic Boom didn't kill Sonic.

A bad movie is just a bad movie, drama queens.

  10. Well... At the very least it can't be worse than the Avatar (The Last Airbender) movie adaptation. Right?

  11. Just when you thought they couldn't dishonor Megaman's memory anymore, they dig up his corpse and resume dragging it through crap.

  12. Do keep in mind that Chernin Entertainment(the studio actually making the film, Fox is just publishing) made smash hits like the Planet of the apes reboot and the Best Picture Nominee "Hidden Figures". Don't freak out just yet, this has a chance!

  14. I could see an X live action movie being done well, but not classic. It just doesn't suit the medium well.

    1. Maybe they'll lift the plot for the movie from The Megas' albums instead of the games.

  15. Live Action Movie can kill Megaman, you know? They did kill Super Mario, Double Dragons, Street Figthers, and more.

  17. if a company like dreamworks can turn something as silly as "captain underpants" into a actually good movie (yes I saw it, it was good, hate on me all you want) why not have dreamworks make an animated megaman film?
