Mega Maker Fan-Program Lets You Create Your Own Mega Man Stages

In another example of "why hasn't Capcom made this?", here's Mega Maker from WreckingPrograms. Mega Maker is a program designed to give you all the tools you need to create your own classic series inspired stages. You can even upload your stages and share them with other users!

Mega Maker is set to launch next Saturday, July15th. It's a free program – however, donations are being accepted to help run and maintain the server, which is necessary to share levels with your peers. You can help the servers here. Keep your eyes peeled to the official website for more information and updates!

Thanks for the tip, MegaBoy!

  1. Awesome. Thank you and thank you MegaBoy! I have an idea that I would like to share with them. Just sent them the message through their forum. Again, thank you.

  2. Oh wow. I thought the MaGMML engine was the only "maker-ish" fan project out there. This is neat. Lets see how people do this and if Capcom would pull the plug on this if they find out.

    1. Oh I'm sure they will. Remember all the Chrono Trigger fan projects that Square Enix laid the law down upon because they didn't want some young upstarts to churn out a better idea than them for free using a property they don't even care about anymore.

    2. This actually uses the MaGMML Engine

    3. anon1: they could...or maybe (just being hypothetical, the chance are low, i know), maybe they will support the project. like they did for street fighter vs megaman.
Capcom don't do anything with MM because they don't want to risk a penny on it, but aside from that they tend to leave it. contrary to square enix who is particularly picky when anything regarding their propertie is made.

    4. Anon #1:
Remember the mountains of Mega Man fangames that Capcom C&D'd? 'Cause I don't.

    5. TAG: You don't have to be a jerk to Anon 1 about it. Geez.

Which part of what I said was out of line?

  3. Holy crap, this looks amazing! I wonder if we could import our own graphics and music into it. Maybe the next "Make a Good Megaman Level" contest could use this program.

  4. Actually they did make that but it was for the PSP and everybody hated the art style at the time so nobody bought it.

    1. Actually, people DID like Mega Man Powered Up, FYI.

    2. No, it was because Capcom released the game on a shitty portable console. That should have been a PS2 release.

    3. Nobody bought it because it was a poorly advertised, physical only PSP game that launched at a time where it both missed the launch window excitement but came out before the system had a significant install base.

    4. The creator in powered up was EXTREMELY limited, you couldn't make any decent full length stages.

    5. I was totally fine with the art style, but I couldn't tolerate thr soundtrack.

    6. I loved making stages in Powered Up but it did have a lot of limitations... Can't edit boss room without a glitch, can't use Wily Stage bosses or stage designs... No vertical boss shutters, etc. Still loved it but wished there was a Powered Up 2 (Universe!!) to improve on it.

    7. I specifically purchased a PSP for Mega Man Powered Up, as well as Maverick Hunter X and (eventually) Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins. Speaking of the relevant game, though, I'll admit that the stage creator was a little limited, as far as what you could do... but, honestly, I loved what I could do.

Funny enough, there's data hidden in the game that suggest you may have been able to place the player character in the editor proper as well as change the boss' position, rather than have it be an automatic process. I would have liked that.

  5. This is something Crapcom should be doing instead of focusing most of their time on that pathetic Megaman Legacy collction 2, which I seriously hope fails. Its pretty sad that Crapcom can`t even come up with a unique idea like this, leave it to fan to produce something this amazing. I`ll be waiting next Saturday for this. Good stuff

  6. I have a couple questions about this game:

    1. Will it be open-source? Having people be able to make new enemies and submit pull requests sounds pretty handy to have. It would also prevent the bosses from getting repetitive.

    2. I know the donations are just for a SERVER, but if I were them I would contact Capcom to make sure that everything is ironed out.

Otherwise, the game sounds pretty cool. I can't believe they were able to keep it under wraps for so long.

  7. They try to do this, two times, they are called Powered UP and Universe (unreleased).

  8. that's the closest thing to playing mega man universe.

    1. The only thing missing is custom playable characters (or just play as MM1-6 bosses like MMPU). Centaur Man would be interesting as he can't jump, but could warp around using weapon energy (which refills like Jet Mega Man, but slightly slower to avoid overuse). The farther he warps, the more energy he would use. Yamato Man could also use energy as his supply of spearheads is limited.

    2. Yeah, but the only difference is that Mega Man Universe was trash.

    3. That seems like a rather harsh thing to say about a game that was never even released. Why do you say it was "trash?" Because it seemed heavily based on Mega Man 2? Because of the jagged art style? Or just because you're a disagreeable sort with an ax to grind against Capcom Co. LTD, like the rest of us? Wink.

  10. I am going to be very very upset if this game's engine -- physics, expected behaviors, etc. -- does not meet my very strict Mega Man fan game standards.

Some of you know exactly what I mean, I'm sure.

    1. That is what I am worried about too. I don't like fan games that change the feel of the 8-bit classics. I want 100% (or at least extremely close) accuracy.

    2. Sweet bippy, its worse than I was expecting. Levels that are full of things run incredibly slow, a lot of objects are buggy and don't replicate their expected behaviors, and it's just a big mess, overall.

However... Megaman's physics are almost entirely spot-on and the level editor is genuinely a joy to use. Plus, the tutorial is really charming.

This project has potential. It just needs a little polishing to really shine.

  11. I really wish that no announcements had been made prior to an actual release.

Otherwise, it's a dream come true. Can't wait!!!

  12. Pretty cool. It'd be nice if they complete it with all the main MM games and the Gameboy games as well.

Although game creation is not my thing.

  13. It is nice to let us create our own new robot masters and our stages instead of just stages and same old robot masters. :(

  14. This is awesome. Like others, I would love the ability to upload custom sprites. More importantly to me, I hope there's options for dialogue, or at least story cut scenes. It'd be great to get these fan games out of my head, but that won't do without the story being told.

  15. 1:53 what top spin should have been.

  16. Why hasn't Capcom made this?
It's simple, some time in the last decade they've all developed severe profit allergies.
I'm afraid there's just no way to treat something like that.
