Eleven Years Later, Rockman EXE and Duel Masters Reunite

The Rockman EXE and Duel Masters crossover movie hit Japanese theaters in 2005. Today, the two franchises are teaming up once again with an all-new crossover card. Shown above, the card depicts Rockman.EXE standing back-to-back with Duel Masters' current protagonist Katta Kirifuda. The scene is a deliberate throwback to the film's original promotional poster. The quote on the card translates as "the strongest team is here!"

Now, don't get too excited. This isn't a harbinger of a new Rockman EXE/Duel Masters movie. From what we've been able to gather, this card is part of a larger promotion between Duel Masters and other popular TV, video game and toy franchises. I mean just look at these: a Mister Potato Head and Phoenix Wright card. Yeah.

In any case, it's a little nostalgic to see the two franchises paired again. Should anything more come of it, well, we'll let you know!

    1. It didn't really do anything. It just led to two Duel Masters battlechips in BN5 and their movies were billed together as a double feature, just like they do with the yearly Kamen Rider/Super Sentai movies for whatever the new series for each is at the time. It was a harmless publicity crossover, of course granted, out of card game animes at the time, Yugioh was and still is pretty much the dominate choice.

    2. I like Duel Masters' card designs and general aesthetics a whole lot more than YuGiOh, and I think their crossover with EXE is epic.

The crossovers that should be forgotten are the Sonic the Hedgehog Worlds ones from Archie in my opinion.

    3. There was nothing wrong with Worlds Collide and Unite. They were pretty good.

Eh...DM is too confusing. I'll take Fusion/Synchro/XYZ any day over whatever DM has.

    4. Oh you mean rules and game design? Oh then I prefer YuGiOh for that.

I am in full agreement that DM is a mess game design wise. My favorite card battle game is Card Fighters though, YuGiOh is too broken sometimes, and has to be revised too often to be fun.

I'll have to disagree with The Sonic Worlds series (I think it is just plain bad), while I wouldn't go out of my way to attack them with effort, they are in my opinion badly written, presented and forgettable, especially as a Mega Man fan on the Mega Man side of things.

Duel Masters on the other hand has Mega Man looking like an epic badass 95% of the time whenever they meet. Also Battle Chips and the awesome monster cards from Duel Masters is a match made in heaven (especially since a lot of MM official artists design a lot of the DM cards).

Best BN crossover is Boktai though easy, for me.

    5. Don't forget that 2 cards of Bass.EXE (same card with different art) was made for Duel Masters.

    6. I would actually love to see the reasons on why "Duel Masters" is a mess in terms of design (and rules, for that matter), compared to Yugioh.

When its really the opposite. PSCT only did so much. Card effects are still a mess.

    2. Its not as weird as it seems. Theres already a "Wild Veggies" race.

Its just a reprint of http://duelmasters.wikia.com/wiki/Karate_Potato (a nearly 10 year old card) with different art. It is funny though.
