Looks Like Rockman EXE 4.5 is Headed to the Wii U Virtual Console

Dataminers peeking into upcoming eShop content have discovered a batch of unreleased Japanese Virtual Console titles. Among the games registered in Nintendo's servers, Rockman EXE 4.5 and Rockman EXE 6 (Gregar and Falzar).

EXE 6 was pretty much a given at this point. But EXE 4.5? That's a surprise. For the uninitiated, 4.5 is a spin-off where players can control various Net Navis. The game could interface with the Battle Chip Gate accessory to use real-life toy Battle Chips. The device is not required to play the game, but it's a huge part of its appeal. You could say 4.5 was an early pioneer of the toys-to-life genre.

We don't know when it's coming out nor if it will leave the Japanese storefront. We'll keep you posted nonetheless.

  1. I'm sure EXE6 will get brought here.

But 4.5 will never get brought to NA or EU eShop, which is the suck.

  2. Great game. I imported the battle chip gate/game bundle back in 2006. I think I ended up collecting like 50 different battle chips(real) and 5 or 6 navi chips. I would recommend the game. . . but with the chip gate and battle chips.

    3. Same, could be good thing if Capcom made a english version, but im sure they wont.... :/
Except if the team or Prof.K help them for that.... (they worked on it).
Very good they put this kind of game on virtual console....but if it's only for japan, not soooooo.....
I have the game on GBsp with the battlechip gate, it's an awesome game, but could be nice if some other people can play it !

  3. Well...to be honest, there IS a 1% chance 4.5 could see a US/EU release, perhaps even translated. Just look back from a few months ago when the Big N dropped Mother 1 into the laps of fans as Earthbound Beginnings. Granted, I am comparing an NES game to a GBA, and Mother 1 was somewhat translated (I think, don't quote me on this) before it was decided to just do Mother 2. So either that happens or 4.5 retains its JPN language, it could see a release.

Then again, this is Capcom we're talking about here, so that's probably just wishful thinking.

    1. There has been games translated on Virtual Console. Not very many, but it's happened. Mother 1 was simply the Earthbound NES prototype that's been dumped on the internet for years.
Sin and Punishment got its menus, tutorial, and endings translated. Cutscenes were left with Japanese subtitles because it had English voice acting already. Wii U VC version uses the same translation as the Wii VC version.
Monster World IV got a full translation, and a fairly good one at that. Most of the time, the import games on Virtual Console were simply the Japanese roms. Since 4.5 is a text heavy game, it'd be nice to see a full translation. And for some sort of emulated chip gate functionality since that was a major part of the game.
