Super Smash Bros. for 3DS: We Have Lift Off

October 3rd is upon us and Super Smash Bros. for 3DS has officially launched in North America. You can grab the game in-store or directly from the Nintendo eShop right now! Well, maybe not right at this very moment -- the servers will probably be jam packed most of the night -- but you get the idea.

As a friendly heads up, you need to download a day one update from the eShop to enable online matchmaking. Update 1.0.2 is required for online play. It's a very small patch that contains the final server configurations for the North American game. Once you get through all that downloadin', you're all set.

I gotta say, after nearly four years of wading through cancelled projects and disappointing news, it'll be an absolute joy to finally savor something good. It may not be a new Mega Man game, but Smash Bros. is the first time in years Mega Man has been shown some decent treatment.

I don't want to set any expectations for myself, but Mega Man's representation could go a long way...

  1. Four years goes by quickly, it's almost hard to believe it's been that long of cancellations. Good that Mega Man finally gets his deserved representation now though.

  2. I can't believe it's finally the release day - I can't wait to play it later!

As for Mega Man's good representation, he's also been being promoted more over here in the UK by Nintendo over the last year or so than he ever was by Capcom themselves. That goes double for right now, as there are frequent TV ads for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS at the moment, in which Mega Man appears quite prominently - there's barely a moment he's not on-screen, and his Final Smash is the first one shown to accompany the narration describing this feature. It comes off looking really cool.

It really is nice to see the trend of the last several years being bucked!

  3. Yeah, yeah Capcom get to work on another MM game with the aid of people who know how to make them, and not only 8-bit. Personally I couldn't care less for Smash, I've had this entry about two weeks now and meh for MM's representation and meh for the game itself.

  4. I think "Mega Man 11: Smash Run" is the best Mega Man game to come out in a long time. Kind of weird they let you play as non-Mega Man characters though... but it's definitely 100-times cooler than that weird crossover Comcept did not too long ago.

    1. Yup yup. 100x better with the original Blue Bomber. 50x with X, and 40x with EXE, Legends, or Starforce.

  5. Well, can't deny it is kinda meh compared to SSB Brawl, and Mega Man's moves aren't that good (his custom moves are better than the standards), but it isn't a bad game. I'd give it a score of 7/10.
Seriously... Having Metal Blade taken and thrown back at you? A Gooey Crash Bomb that can be passed over? Shadow Blade and Danger Wrap are much better.

  6. I can't wait to buy this in a couple weeks, probably going to pick up a wii u with smash bros around black if the wii u version is out by then. the main reason I want to buy it is to play as megaman.

  7. Hey any publicity is good. Look at the last smash with pit from Icarus it got enough attention that he had a whole game made for the series so this could be a thing with Megaman in smash.

Lets hope we get another game because it has been far to long since a game has come out
