Misadventures of Tron Bonne English Debug Version (11/5/99) Released

Our third and final dump (for the time being) is an English debug prototype of The Misadventures of Tron Bonne. Much like the Legends 2 proto before, this is a work-in-progress build of the US version with plenty of debugging functions to play around with. The burn date is November 5th, 1999, roughly five months before the US version's retail release.

Fun debugging features aside, there aren't too many significant differences here. The English voices have already been recorded, most of the text has been translated, and the PockeStation features have already been gutted. Given that this is an early English version, I was really hoping for the latter to be left intact.

Of note, there are some graphics leftover from the Japanese version, however. For example, the Tron Ni Kobun logo can still be seen in the game's options menu. There may be more oddities hidden inside the code but I really haven't started digging around just yet.

Anyway, it's yours if you want it. Download it here! Many thanks once again to OKeijiDragon for capturing the footage.

  1. Is this still plagued by the error where the thing cannot go further than the first stage that otherwise plagues the game with any given emulator?

Not that I'm going to try this myself, I'm only just curious.

    2. You can play the game in an emulator (and have been able to play the game in an emulator for over a decade now) by enabling "SPU Async" and "SPU IRQ" in whichever your favorite PS1 emu is.

  2. That's pretty damn awesome, Protodude. Now if you could get ahold of a MML1 prototype, you'd have a whole set.

My PS1 can play burned copies. If I were to burn this to a disc, would it work? Or is emulator the only option for me?

  3. (chuckling).. You are great, Protodude.. Thanks for the sharing. I can't wait for 2 gameboy games if they decided to dump it soon. Cheers.

  4. In my own experience, that error is caused by the sound plug-in. If you disable sound emulation or choose a different plug-in, the game becomes a lot more playable.
