Capcom and Furu1 Team Up for Mega Man Themed Phone Cases

In celebration of their 30th anniversary, Capcom of Japan is teaming up online retailer Furu1 for some special Capcom themed mobile phone cases. This includes Mega Man, as well as other "legacy" franchises like Son Son, Ghouls N' Ghosts, and DarkStalkers. You can check out some of the designs, each boasting a very familiar sprite style, here.

Supported phones include the iPhone family, Xperia Z and Z1, and the Galaxy S4 and S3. Each case runs for 2,980 Yen (roughly $29.83 US).

  2. Interesting that they went with the "Mega Man style" for all of the characters on these.

Side note, it's getting tough for me to discern between Mega Man anniversary merch and Capcom anniversary merch.

  3. No thanks. Please just make a good game. Stop with accessories for their money out of ours! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! Make a good game, will you ? Arghh!

  4. Now would you look at that. The 8-bit X and Zero look quite nice and their pose is different from the standing Classic Megaman. Nice touch at least.

    1. Those. Aren't. 8. Bit.

They are poorly made pixelated garbage made to cash in on the image of 8-bit sprites without actually taking the time and effort to build a proper, 3-4 color sprite in the true NES style.

Yet one more reason why I despise Capcom.

    2. Not to start shit, but uh... have you seen Plantman's sprite from Rockman 6? 12 colors (9, if you're not counting the transparent color) on 3 layers (face, head, body). To the best of my knowledge, that's the most layers any classic series "small boss" sprite had.

I'm not saying that to excuse this load of crap, by the way. I'm just saying it's possible to use more than the standard 3 solid colors on NES sprites. Even Rock himself used 2 layers with 6 solid colors.

    3. True, but sprites that complicated on the NES were exceptions, rather than the rule. Nowadays, people just pump out low quality crap like this and expect us to nostalgically eat it up. A well made NES sprite that uses all its colors to the fullest will always always ALWAYS best an eight colored palette placed on a pile of poorly planned pixels.

  5. Really liking that Rockman phone case, I'd love to have that if it worked for iPhone 4. :3c

  6. Happy 25th anniversary, Megaman! Have some piss-poor sprite edits on commercial merchandise!

  7. Safe to say, we never got an actual game during this entire 25th Anniversary.

No special collection, no big box of games, no worldwide tournament.

Just music CDs of the same 10 fucking songs we keep hearing again and again, music CDs with lower than YouTube quality songs from 20 year old games, and a bunch of toys.

And no, Mighty No fucking 9 doesn't count. Even having him in Smash Bros is barely passing, cause it's not a stand alone game for Mega Man alone.

I know, Street Fighter went through worse than this in terms of getting a NEW game. But you know what Street Fighter did still get? Actual collections or recognition that it exists as a VIDEO GAME FRANCHISE, not a merchandise pool.

    1. "I know, Street Fighter went through worse than this in terms of getting a NEW game."

Didn't Street Fighter X Tekken come out last year? I know it wasn't for the anniversary specifically, but it was still a new game, and was part of the anniversary bundle that Street Fighter got as well.

I'm just gonna thank Nintendo for the Smash Bros. thing and be done with it myself.

    2. Still waiting on Tekken x Street Fighter, myself... I don't think that game's ever gonna be released.

    3. You two must be mistaken with the recent 25th Anniversary and Street Fighter's 15th Anniversary, which is what I meant by SF having a large chunk of nothing for years.

After Capcom VS SNK 2 in 2001, or SFIII - 3rd Strike if we don't wanna count crossover games, Street Fighter had literally NO "new" games all the way to 2008 when Street Fighter IV came out on Arcades. That was seven or eight years of no new games.

But at least even Street Fighter got special anniversary game controllers, tons of tournaments (they could easily do yearly Star Force 3 and EXE6 tournaments >_>), and compilation games updated to the newer consoles (some even being given online play, such as Street Fighter - Anniversary Collection).

It's been close to 3 years since the original cancellation of MegaMan Universe, which started this Cancel Streak of games (though, technically, Maverick Hunter was the start. But that's a whole other can of Conspiracy stories of why it was kept under wraps from us until 3-4 years later... >_>).
And we haven't even gotten a compilation game for this Anniversary, even slapping together a bunch of ROMs/ISOs into a single thing is too much for them to give a fuck to do for this franchise.

In regards to TxSF, I don't think that's ever coming out. Even if it did, it'd likely be ass. Namco hasn't made a good 3D fighter since SCIII and Tekken 5 DR, so I don't trust them to do something with systems and mechanics like Street Fighter's in that sort of setting. Especially with how busted and sloppy Tekken Revolution is. (How the hell that's in the "Best Fighting Game" nominations in the hilariously stupid VGA awards and no mention of Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate is beyond me.... even DIVE KICK got put in the list...)

  8. Aw, lookit all the dead IPs on parade... Er, cherished franchises paramount to Capcom's success.

Really hoping there's a light at the end of this tunnel.

  9. To be honest I prefer having a screen protector than a case..I've looked at the otter box and while it looks great it does add considerable bulk and they are pricey...in the other hand screen protectors are lightweight and inexpensive if you know which one to get. You can pick a GEARMAXX screen protector for cheap...They sell on ebay and are high quality, lightweight and durable!
