Mega Man Unlimited - Whirlpool Man Stage Preview

For your viewing pleasure, here's a sneak peek at a new stage currently in development for Mega Man Unlimited, MegaPhilX's popular fan-game. If all goes well, this stage could be added to the game in the near future.

Phil writes, "At some point, this stage might be added to the game in a future update along with a couple of other features Jansim is working on. As usual, I can’t tell exactly when this whole thing will be finished but I’ll keep you posted whenever interesting stuff happens."

For more information, head over to MegaPhilX's site here.

  1. Awesome. But.... MegaPhilX might need to think twice for one thing: I have heard about is that there are few stages which are toooo longer to get to the Boss room.

  2. This is a pretty solid-looking stage. The only thing I'm not impressed with so far is the music. I thought Stage 48 was much better. I just wish it hadn't been used already in Mega Man: Rock Force.

    1. I dunno, the music isn't bad. It's ambient and pleasant, so I'd say it's a nice track. However, I also don't think it sounds anything like a Mega Man song, so maybe that's why you're not impressed with it? To me it sounds like that track belongs in a completely different game.

  3. I noticed the lack of water stages before. Guess it's good to see that they're working on something to remedy that.

  4. Too late. I'm not interesting in Mega Man Unlimited because it's too hard to beat the challenge. I'm not gonna download that game anymore. Sorry, Phil. I'm out.

    1. The difficulty seemed forced to me. Now at days we remember games that were hard and became popular because of it, I still feel that Phil tried to do that here. I appreciate the game but I don't like the fact that I got killed every single time by getting knocked into a pit or touching spikes.

It's MegaMan for Christ's sake, not Ninja Gaiden.

    2. Wasn't easy mode added at some point? If normal mode is difficult for you, just stick with the easier one.

    3. This game is including the Easy Mode as well. You can try that. :)

    4. It's not normal mode. It means just normal challenge, simple & short pattern, and good obstacles and task. Hard mode means much hard challenge, long & hard pattern, and difficult obstacles and tasks. Hard mode is not a normal mode!!! Hard mode is Hard mode!

I'm not saying Mega Man stinks. I'm saying that I am not recommending for newbies or beginners to play the game. Unless you need to master it and become a pro or experienced player. Or someone like you who has experience of all Mega Man games can play the game, too. Me? No. I'm not interesting in this game. It's my choice. I love playing Mega Man games, but this... I am sorry. I felt it wasn't necessary for making the game too hard to overcome.

    5. The balancing in easy mode is kind of off, it changes rooms that are easy but leaves harder ones unaltered.

Best example of that is Rainbow Man's stage.

  5. Phil's take on level design is that he takes a basic set of ideas and uses them to the very fullest he can think of, often to the point of really, really overdoing it (see: Rainbow Man lasers). For example, in Mega Man 5, I felt Gravity Man's gimmick was woefully underused. This game's Wily Stage 3... well, I think that's been used to the fullest now, thereabouts. Yoku Man's stage is an example where this approach really paid off big time in a great way, compared to the many notable missteps elsewhere.

In so far as this one goes, seems relatively benign from the showcase. I admit I find the bit with the whirlpools pushing you up to the ceiling while you have to navigate the blade fish beneath you to be a decent nugget of level design. I wonder if he's decided to pick up anything from the critiques he got upon the game's release (beyond the whole 'add stopgap blocks and call it Easy Mode' thing that set so many people off).

  6. About the music, I've heard some people say the music doesn't fit, though in my opinion it kinda reminds me of MegaMan 8 and for some reason the gameboy Megas.
