Two New Mighty No. 9 Stretch Goals


The Mighty No. 9 Kickstarter has reached its next goal, amassing the $2,550,000 needed to add an extra level and end boss to the game. That brings us to the $2.75 million stretch goal: Beck and Call two player online cooperative mode.

Additionally, two new stretch goals were unveiled: $2,900,000 nabs us an intro stage and boss, while $3,100,000 gives us a support character. No change the to the original $3,300,000 stretch for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions. Can we make it in just five days?

  2. Enh, intro stage? I'd rather have more fortress stages. 9 is my favorite MM but one thing it could have done better is four more stages at the end where the game assumes you have all weapons and is challenged appropriately.

  3. sorry but i think the "intro stage" is somewhat off...

    didnt they think about the intro stage before development? i mean are they going to make it really like megaman without the intro stage?.. id rather have the support character... but heh... of course...

    I smell shenanigans. I already smelled shenanigans before, but this is going too far. Inafune and Comcept are no worse than Capcom at this point.

    1. The original Megaman games didn't have an intro stage, that was invented for MMX. they trew you right into the select Robot Master screen and Mno.9 is modeled after classic MM games.

    2. I wouldn't go that far, but I don't entirely disagree. Kinda feels like they're holding features and content hostage. I'm all for funding a good game, but this is the kind of nickel and diming crap you see from AAA developers peddling crappy DLC.

      Except for a game you've never played and aren't entirely sure you'll like either.

    3. If you listen to their podcasts they've said explicitly that the money between stretch goals is going to more than just the stretch goal item itself. It's going to development in general. Got tired of whining about Capcom, so now time to whine about Inafune's next project? Makes sense.

  6. Haha, at first I was like: "Alright! Intro stage! Now it'll be more like Mega Man X! Awesome!" Then I saw "support character,"remembered Alia from X5, and thought: "Oh no! It'll be too much like Mega Man X..." lol

  7. The support character could be something more functional like Rush, Beat, and Eddie. An intro stage is a must. It's a good way to get the player used to the games mechanic, and provide an introduction to the world before diving in headlong with the various choices available.

  9. If it were up to me, I'd have moved the 'extra end stage' goal in place of the current intro stage one.

    I'd be okay with a ten stage game. First one to give you the basic rundown, eight stages of arsenal building, one big final grand one that takes everything you've obtained/learned and grinds your nose into the dust (and failing that, we're getting special challenges too). If enough people pledge to push it to an eleven-stage game, hey, more power to them.

    All in all it does seem they're asking for a lot for things that seem like they should be in the base product as one comment already pointed out, but I'd trust their judgment on this financially considering how many times these people have put together platform games.

  10. Oh for pete sake, can Comcept not fund ANYTHING themselves? Are they really that desperate for money that they're going to keep begging fans for all they're willing to spare? Maybe even more than that?

  11. The fact that people are calling Capcom on this is absurd and apparently the cost of development is lost on people. You're already getting the full game plus end game extras plus a 100+ challenge challenge mode plus a new game + plus a turbo mode plus a boss rush mode...

    And now that they put intro stage as a thing you're calling them out on witholding stuff in a game that was stated from the start to be MegaMan like and have only six stages plus the end stages. They never once said anything about an intro. It'd be extra that adds but doesn't detract from the main game, and honestly an intro stage that you'll just breeze through to get to the meat of the game isn't as great an addition as a challenge mode is.

    And for the begging comment, this is a kickstarter. They just add things based on how much people are willing to give. They already had plans for there to be JUST the six stages and end stages, that would have been it. This is the first time in a long time that a company has actively made a labor of love, a game for the fans. People should be appreciative that it actually exists and is getting a full blown love treatment.

    To get to what would have been my original post point, I doubt that there's anyone available to spend much more than what has already been spent. I doubt it'll make it to co-op. Hopefully the game gets enough revenue to fund it via dlc in the future, tho that in and of itself has a lot of extra costs tacked onto it based on the console.

      Just a slight correction, but I believe the kickstarter stated there was only going to be one final stage, becoming two after the 2.55mil stretch goal was reached. Which comes to show that, yes, they are really optimizing the use of their budget, given theirs and the users' priorities. It's hard for people to grasp the money needed to fund games, even small ones. 2.5~3mil isn't that much, to be quite honest, so what they're able to pull off with only that much money is impressive.

      I would agree, though, that an intro stage is something I really think is necessary, and should've been an earlier priority. Yes, most people will breeze through it, but intro stages are the perfect way to teach players (especially newcomers) about the mechanics of your game. That way, you don't have to gimp your difficulty in the boss stages because you never had the chance to teach your players, or force a difficulty-curve that's off-putting to most people.

      About the support characters...I really don't agree with that, at least not from a gameplay perspective. I feel the point of transformations makes the need for side characters like Rush, Beat, Tango, etc. just really, really redundant.

      Unless by support characters, they mean navigators *groan*. Maybe if they could fit in a navigator that doesn't freeze the game everytime they flap their mouth. I think learning the game for yourself creates the unique feeling of discovery. Having someone tell you what to do ruins that feeling.

  12. Why is Intro Stage such a late stretch goal? Also, why is it a stretch goal in the first place? DIdn't it pretty much become a series staple in the MM series starting in the first X game? This kinda... I dunno. It seems a very odd that this goal is so high on the list - you'd think that something as iconic as this has become for the old franchise would be an earlier goal...

  13. Whiners is all I have to say for people crying comcept = capcom. Comcept can gladly have my dollars even if this game is a complete flop I commend Inafune for still trying. You guys really don't understand the resources he has at his disposal and how this is clearly a labour of love that couldn't be supported without the fans.

      They're acting as-if it takes hundreds of thousands of dollars to develop a single stage+boss character, which is especially pitiful because people will pay for it. If you know anything about video game development then you'd be able smell the BS, too.

      ...it's not like they'll have to create new, special development tools, hire new people and work overtime specifically for that cause.

I don't even think you've got an understanding of how developmental strategy works inside an upcoming business platform under the guise of a public->company commercial venture.   16. You know, as we draw closer to the end, I was actually kind of freaking out a little. I'm pretty sure they're going to reach the $2.75-million goal that I (and a lot of other people) really want, but its getting down to the wire here!

    And... then I remember that that, as well as other stretch goals, could easily become Downloadable Content in the future, if demand is strong enough, and if Comcept feels like adding the missing stuff.

    ... still. Come on, $2.75-million goal! X3

  18. I feel like stretch goals were badly placed. I'd prefer many of these stretch goals, which I can actually play with and use, over that documentary that was early on...
