The Vote for Mighty No. 9's Heroine Design is On!

At last, the Mighty No. 9 crew are giving fans the chance to vote on their favorite design for Beck's female companion, Call. There are nine different designs to vote on, each unique from one another. The choice won't be easy!

Here are some things to consider while you look things over:

  • Call is a female robot originally created by Dr. White’s friend, Dr. Sanda, to help assist him with his research; she somehow avoided being infected by the virus causing all the other robots to go berserk and has pledged to help Beck.
  • Call was not imbued with the human characteristics that make Beck unique, so she’s more of a pure robot -- as you might imagine, this contrast can lead to some interesting differences and misunderstandings whenever they interact!

Use this survey to submit your choice. The deadline is October 1st at 5:30 PM PST. Bear in mind, these designs have no set colors yet. This vote is strictly for the design. Coloring and the like will be shown at a later date. The results will be announced on Kickstarter, live!

  1. Umm so what about these girls? the pink haired one and the purple haired one in the last row? What happened to them (check the picture below).
And with that list, other than F , H and E , nothing looks appealing

  2. The removal of the pink haired twin tail Call design is both disheartening and strange. Why remove the second most popular of the designs?

    1. There is a possibility that she is already in the game but not as Call.

  3. Comcept said they removed Pink because they said to every artist they could only choose one design to submit to votation, and the artist of pink and the other sketches send a different Call this time.

For the lines, I'm guessing is the E one.

    1. Ya, because unicorns didn't exist before My Little Pony, right? *rollseyes*

    2. To be completely honest. Bronies vote C because it's the only thing that can relate to their stupid show. They lack of moral and only let their fanbase side to take over instead of make a reasonable choice.
      :P

  6. This is really going to be a tough choice. They all look like nice designs, and while I do like 'Roll Call', I would like a different design to win... although it is very likely that Roll Call will.

On a side, it looks like Roll and Cutman fused with a Legends-esque robot in C. =P

  7. Smart.Very smart. Using the public's inner moe-ecchi to determine the most popular (and marketable) design. It's a shame to think that no matter what design gets chosen, a flood of pornographic fan art will inevitably follow.

That aside, the true problem with putting the design to a vote is that the majority of the viewing public no longer has an eye for quality.

  8. This kinda sucks. I'm torn between A, B, F and H.
A and B have a Arale feel. Dr. Slump is a personal favorite of mine.
But F and H feel like Roll. Hope they get colorized soon.

  9. It's hard to decide, I like them all but may go for G or I. I like F but i wonder if it's too much like roll.

Which one do you like the best protodude?

  10. I like C and G the best...

  11. Hahah, so I wasn't the only one who noticed the Arale-ness in designs A and B!

  12. I feel that D was done by Inafune. To me that one has his style to it the most. I didn't see it written anywhere like they did with MML3 heroine contest where it said who did it. But, just looks like his work.

    1. lol I know. Looks more like Dr. Wily's grand daughter because of the hair. Inafune's style is very noticeable even during the Aero contest.

    2. Pretty sure it is. Inafune has a very distinctive style over most other artists, and from my observations, his sketches are usually a little more simple and kind of crude. I actually really like Inafune as an artist and love his work, but I really feel his contribution here is really lacking compared to everyone else here, which is a shame as he could have had so much more potential with his design. It's the same with that poll the Devroom once held for Aero, I felt his sketch then was also incredibly lacking. And the single sketch he provides as well.

It also doesn't help that his Call seriously looks like Dr. Wily's granddaughter...

    3. D's totally Inafune! It really looks like his comcept art for Megaman X.

(Yes, that was a deliberate typo).

Anyway, I have now voted in the roll!

      ...poll

  13. E is the most appealing to me. I have voted as such.

  14. I vote I. Apparel is too cute. Peek at undies is very Japanese. ~ ^_^ ~

  15. C, E, and F are my favorites. It's hard to just pick one. Ughh... I hope they don't go with design G. If they make this character more of a housekeeping girl than a research assistant, I'm going to loose what little faith in humanity I had. Well, I wouldn't go that far, but still, I hope they don't go in that direction.

    1. Keep in mind that women still don't have many rights in Japan, and that this is still a Japanese game at its very core. It is a common expectation in the east that women there become housewives, and expected to give up their jobs once married. Hell, I know that it's common practice to give OL ('office ladies') housekeeping training to prepare them for their married future.

And who cares, they're robots anyway.

  16. A: Hideki Ishikawa
    C: Kimo Kimo
    D: Keiji Inafune
    H: Shinsuke Komaki

The rest are Inti and Makoto Yabe (ZX artist), which all have similar styles so it's hard to say.

But yea, they may have well just called this E vs F. None of the other ones pair up with Beck in terms of design and/or personality, imo.

That being said, F has the unfair advantage of having an existing coloring. Someone should color these to give them a fair chance.

  17. I like H the best! She looks very Tezuka-ish! I love it!!

  18. I like design I the best, but I have a feeling that one of the more Roll-esque designs will win no matter what.

  19. I liked F because her design is the most well put togheter. If people doesn't vote F because they say it's a roll succesor, just a friendly reminder. THE WHOLE GAME IS A MEGAMAN SUCCESOR. DUH!

  20. here's what i think for these designs :

    A. somehow i don't any cuteness aside from the big glasses.
    B. Arale-chan?
    C. 4 legs? a bit to much.
    D. Wily hair?
    E. i don't see any cute factor here.
    F. Roll. nuff said.
    G. i like this one. fits her description i think.
    H. too cute.
    I. sorry to say but it looks too much like Iris.

then again, it's my opinion. i'm sure most of you guys think otherwise.

  21. Yeah I voted for F. I feel that the design of F or AKA "Roll Call" is a great contrast to Beck, the two just seem to go hand in hand.
    As for the others:
    A. The design is nice, other than the hair it looks great.
    B. Like people said it's Arale, but that's not a bad thing, the design is pretty cute.
    C. This one kind of creeps me out, also she seems too robotic.
    D. Keiji Inafune's design looks pretty plain, the bat hair is awkward looking.
    E. This design is great! However she seems more fitted to be a Navigator or an airplane waitress rather than a side kick robot.
    G. This one seems to be lacking a certain edge to it. I'm getting a strong school girl vibe from this design rather than a robot assistant.
    H. Another great design, the simplicity works well and the Astro Boy vibe helps with the cute factor.
    I. A very adorable design and she seems to fit the description pretty well.

  22. C looks like Cut-chan the magical unicorn princess or something. I don't think it fits, but it still has an interesting look. I could see it more as a boss.

  23. Normally, I'd go with Design F, considering this is the "Call" that people have already made fanarts of. But consider the time I've spent making Dr. Slump fanart, I think I'm leaning towards the Arale-esque Design B. Hoyoyo...
