Mega Man & Friends Joining Mobile Game "Street Fighter X All Capcom"

Capcom blew the lid off of a whopping thirteen social/mobile/online games today. Among the lot, we have Street Fighter X All Capcom. It's not as nearly as exciting as it sounds, I'm afraid. To put it simply, it's a card battle RPG for iOS and Android. The game is expected to feature over 500 characters from various Capcom franchises including characters from Mega Man, Mega Man X, Mega Man Legends, and Mega Man Zero. Um, whoohoo?

That's all there is to say, really. The game's official website has some artwork up if you'd like to see more.

  1. In other news, Breath of Fire 6 was also announced. As a mobile touch online game.

I have never seen a company so blatantly out of touch with their fanbases.

So, here's a question I hope is valid: if it's an online game, and you can presumably create your own character, will this should-not-have-been-a-main-series entry have its own Ryu and Nina (as NPCs, at the very least)?

    4. @Radix: No sign of them. At all. I dare say VI is going to be the Xover for the series.

Also this announcement pretty much confirms our fears... Street Fighter is the face of the company.

    5. No wonder Capcom has lost profits for the past 2 years, Honestly I hope this company goes under so someone can buy these IPs and treat them with respect. FUCK OFF CAPCOM.

    6. @ Rolina: I only wish I could make up these things.

Capcom's behavior these days have been absolutely baffling. It's one thing to be clueless about the fanbases for one or two of their franchises. But today, they managed to piss off EVERYONE with the deluge of online and mobile games announced today, 13 in all. How the hell do you even manage to do that?

It can't be because of any differences between the Japanese fandom and overseas, because from what I've seen, we're really not all that different. At this point, I'm pretty much convinced that the higher ups and shareholders know the company is screwed, and instead of trying to save it, they're just buying time with these low budget games so they can quietly run off with the money before it becomes obvious to the general public.

      *FACEPALM* (breaks face) OUCH!
WTF Capcom? Is that seriously supposed to be a sequel? Come on! At least give it other name!
Like Xover, it looks like the music will not be bad. But what about the gameplay?

    8. I knew if they ever brought BoF back it'd be garbage.

It's said staying dead is the best option for many franchises these days.

  2. Ick.

But I'm afraid this is the trend we're going to see for a very long time, so long as minimal game programming effort and low gameplay quality and satisfaction are met by high revenues.

Whereas high (actually they're moderate, these days) quality games with high price tags are met with less revenue.

    Unfortunate.

  3. Oh my god... Capcom has stooped so low it hurts. At least Nintendo, SE, Sega (Sometimes pleases the fans), and Namco Bandai are honest with their fans (Inb4 someone says they're not) At least Namco Bandai is bringing in Tales of Xillia. I bet that's a game everyone is looking forward to.

  4. Wait... is this and update to or replacing "Capcom Allstars with Everyone"? Or is this yet another mass crossover they decided to sell differently while still having the other live?

    1. It's a new game. All-Stars was discontinued.

    2. another crappy crossover.

    3. From what I heard, it re-uses assets from All-Stars (a lot of assets, possibly). So still a different game, but it's not too obvious at first glance.

    4. With Capcom All-Stars canned, it may be considered it successor. It even recycles some art from Capcom All Stars!

    5. That's so funny. Long ago, Capcom tried to develop an in-house 2.5D fighting game with characters of their franchises called "Capcom Fighting All-Stars" and that got cancelled too. Then they created another fighting game, Capcom Fighting Jam [Evolution] but stuck with 2D and recycled all of the sprites. It was also shit.

  5. Bleh!

That's all I got. I'm not even going to state my piece because it seems the entire fanbase has pretty much just said what I was thinking. :/

  6. Because there's no other way I want to celebrate MegaMan's 25th Anniversary than with a mobile card-based game called "Street Fighter X All Capcom."

  7. Thirteen you say?

Yep, yep, I'm losing any if all of my hope in Capcom now.

  8. I know most Japanese game developers are sticking with portables and the still lucrative (in Japan) arcade industry, but Capcom is putting their muscle into iOS games...

Pathetic. Especially since they choose to drag their once-great franchises through the mud.

  9. I love how they just put Street Fighter on center stage here above the rest of their franchises. They could've easily named this something else that's generalize all of Capcom's franchises.

  10. The posts on that forum thread have been cracking me up.

But one thing rings true about all this. If Capcom is so creatively (and financially) bankrupt that the best they can do is toss their assets out to low-quality, cheap social cash-cow games, I'm not entirely sure I really WANT these guys to make another Mega Man game.

I'd rather see Mega Man stay dead than watch the franchise go through what they're doing to Breath of Fire.

OH RIGHT, XOVER HAPPENED. THE FUTURE IS NOW. I keep pretending that was a nightmare.

    ...W-Woooowww. I'm....I'm.......I'm....I-Wooooowwwwww.

Capcom is starting to become that child a parent raises with a tremendous amount of love, only to have that child become a rebellious, back-stabbing individual, with no gratitude towards those that helped keep them alive through all the troublesome times. You know, if that makes any sense.

How can one company disrespect its fans so badly, and leave them in the dust? Is this Capcom? Is this a dream? .. OH NO. I probably just gave them a new idea: Little Nemo: The Dream Master solitaire

  12. Um protodude, might wanna update which series are in the game.

If you look at the art on Neogaf, you can see Rockman Zero. Meaning that series will be there too.

  13. Yeah, and the sad part is that the company itself praises more Western styled games like Resident Evil (Biohazard)and SF. They turned the company itself into a nightmare! No wonder why they losing money...
