Worlds Collide Gets Flip Book for Free Comic Book Day

Free Comic Book Day isn't for another five months, but that's not stopping Archie Comics from announcing this: a free flip book combining content from both the Mega Man and Sonic the Hedgehog series. Available on May 4th, the book is designed as a primer to get people interested in the Worlds Collide story arc. Here's the solicitation:

"It’s TWO Free Comic Books in ONE! Just in time for the start of the epic Sonic the Hedgehog and Mega Man crossover event, “Worlds Collide,” comes a primer issue exclusively for Free Comic Book Day! Witness the journey these two epic heroes from both Sega and Capcom took to finally meet each other — Mega Man’s journey chronicled on one side, and Sonic’s on the other! This is the must-have primer for the biggest comic book event of 2013 — as video game icons Sonic and Mega Man meet for the very first time anywhere!"

Gotta love those "sprites."

  1. I really hope Spaz is doing the interiors as well. IMO, only Spaz can do justice to the crossover.

  2. ... Guys... Megaman's cover. Bottom right.

That's Duo. And we haven't heard a peep about him in the comics at all until now.

Wtf is going on here ._.

It's likely a joke. The Sonic cover has Blaze in the same spot and that's a character Ian's gone on record multiple times he can't really use because SEGA isn't sure of her character in the games and he doesn't want to write himself into a corner.

Which is to say I doubt Duo will be involved in Worlds Collide either, it's a joke for those familiar with Power Battles and Power Fighters from which this comic cover draws influences from.

Blaze has shown up in the Sonic comics multiple times by this point. >_>

Yes but in small parts and self contained story arcs, not nearly to the extent Ian has wanted to use the character.

Especially now that Silver has become a recurring one, if he used Blaze he'd have to address whether or not the two knew each other and SEGA can't even agree on that.

Yes!! Unfortunately, I see multiple artists working on this. That in itself is not a bad thing since I like a lot of other Archie artists. But, come on. XD Make this about quality art, not just quality writing!

  7. They should have Ben split with Spaz for half the work to keep them tiptop and not exhausted. It also helps that I like Ben better than Spaz and think he does both series more justice. I mean look at those two epic pictures up there nicely sleek and sharp and not bloated and overly round.
