We Haven't Seen the Last of Mega Man On Consoles and Handhelds

Here's another juicy tidbit from Nintendo Power's interview with Capcom's Senior Vice President Christian Svensson:

Nintendo Power: What does the future hold for Mega Man?

Christian Svensson: I can say with certainty that you've not seen the last of the Blue Bomber on consoles and handhelds, and, with luck, we'll be celebrating his 50th anniversary, including all of the games you're going to enjoy over the next 25 years. That said, an issue we've had in the past has been talking about games and announcing them before we're certain they're going to come out, which unfortunately has lead to profound disappointment for many fans. So for now, I'm going to have to stay mum about any details.

Hey, I'm perfectly content with being patient... so long as the product is top-notch. That said, perhaps we'll be hearing some about these developments sometime over the course of the 25th anniversary celebration (which lasts throughout 2013). Keep those fingers and toes crossed!

  1. The fact you guys still hang on every word Sven says is kind of depressing really.

Sure he's not the big huge villain people make him out to be but he exaggerates and is always going to paint things in a rosy picture it's his job.

Until he has something to show for it it's just words no matter how reassuring you may find them.

  2. Also, Sven is the mouthpiece for Capcom of America.

Capcom of Japan handles Mega Man.

CoA is just taking the blame.

  3. I wonder if a similar Capcom of JAPAN PR figure exists for the fanbase in Japan.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Stinks. They haven't had any qualms about showing off Xover.

  5. I'll believe Sven when CoJ has anything to show for it (auto-scroll purgatories masquerading as games don't count).

    ReplyDelete
  6. What the first anon said.

I'm sure Sven is a great guy and all, but there's really no reason to believe anything he says

  7. Of course we haven't seen the last of Mega Man yet. We're still going to get rereleases of Mega Man 2 and other classics we've played for the umpteenth time.

  8. The word doesnt mean anything to me. I will believe when I see Capcom of Japan has something in their shelves, thats it. Right now, I am not exciting right now. Blaming ? Capcom of JAPAN and Capcom of USA for canceled the games without say anything and why.

  9. "50th anniversary"? Even 10 years ago I wasn't that much positive to believe that MM would survive even 35th anniversary, to say nothing of current situation and this wish.

  10. well, at least this part seems legit: "with luck, we'll be celebrating his 50th anniversary"

  13. They should have held their tongues until things were certain a long time ago, would have saved a lot of disappoint and rage from our part.

  14. So, basically we won't hear about Rockman Xover 2 until it's for sure coming out :)

Guys, it's just one month away - they said they'd have something for us in december, so just be patient - lay off the hate until then.

If it turns out to be something bad, then you can scream all you want, but until then, be patient. Not much more to go until we get some news.

  16. @Fantasy Empress Rolina

Sven ALSO said they wouldn't announce a game in December and to "keep our expectations in check".

Most we'll get is a party and some new merchandise.

    ReplyDelete
  17. A non reply, he will say the same thing even if the destroyed the source code for all the rockman games.

  18. CoJ is the one that has a good portion of my ire. CoA only has a fraction. I certainly hope there will be quality games made in the future and the current trash they have been spoon feeding us is only the unfortunate result of a temporary slump. A LONG, yet temporary, slump.

For the love of God, Capcom! It would be nice if you guys actually stop, take a deep breath, and see what is wrong with everything and why a lot of fans are pissed off.

On a side note, that pic is really cute!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Does that mean we will get a PS3 port of Xover because that would totally rock!

Maybe a 3DS port of Megman soccer. Last but not least a Vita version of Megaman Battle Chip Challenge.

    Possibilities are jut endless

    ReplyDelete
  20. @Rolina: What that Anon said. Also, three cancelled games in a row is not normal, and I'm seriously afraid that if too much time passes with nothing substantial, the series will turn out to have been dropped.

If Capcom can give us a game worth waiting for, I'll gladly be patient. Right now, I'm worried (and annoyed at Xover).

    ReplyDelete
  21. It's not that hearing about the games get's us disappointed. It's that you're making crappy games.

    ReplyDelete
  22. @FER

You are right. We need to be patient, but knowing RADIX, Axem White and all the other whiners, they're probabaly gonna throw another scream fest if there is no MegaMan news next month.

  23. I've no hate for Sven, Capcom of America and really, even Capcom of Japan. Disappointment? Sure. Anger? Some, yes, but I don't have any real hatred.

I also don't have any faith either. There's nothing in the recent history of how Capcom as a whole has treated the Mega Man franchise post-Inafune to suggest we have anything coming our way worth getting excited about.

That said, I'll be the first person to acknowledge them if they showcase something that looks good. I'll also be the first to voice a note of caution considering recent history as well.

Case in point Capcom hasn't earned any real clout so far as Mega Man goes outside of merchandising deals, which are cool (Archie, D-Arts, etc) but ultimately second banana to actual, full game releases.

    ReplyDelete
  24. All of you are a much or downers.
Trust this guy, maybe there is some spectatular Mega Man game coming soon.

    ReplyDelete
  25. "Trust this guy"

Sven is a mere PR mouthpiece for Capcom of AMERICA, which has very little say in what decisions Capcom of JAPAN makes regarding Rockman/Megaman.

Sven may not deserve the immense fanbase hatred, but putting blind faith (and yes, at this point, unrealistic expectations, which Sven himself has said quote, "please do keep expectations in check") in him is just crossing over into being willfully self-delusional.

  28. I believe that there are games in planning stages. But I am glad to hear that consoles will get more mega man. Don't get me wrong, I like the handheld mega man games, but I also like my high quality console mega man games. I see no reason why he would say that there are games being planned, if there are not.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Well we won't be seeing Megaman Universe any time soon.

So unless I see the one true, blue bomber on the WiiU, I doubt I could care less what pitiful, derivative money making scheme Capcom has planned for Mega Man.

I may lack the imagination to dream up something worse than Mega Man Starforce, but Capcom doesn't.

    ReplyDelete
  30. With the word "Handhelds" mentioned, PLEASE give me a new Network Timeline series!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Capcom had a chance to continue the series with Legends 3. For some ungodly reason, they decided to not release the game and now we've been stuck in limbo for a good couple of years.

All it's been is merch and re-releases of games I have absolutely no interest in.

Nothing about X, nothing about Zero, nothing about the ZX series...

    It's just gone to shit.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I hope the best but capcom... :/

    ReplyDelete
  33. On topic: Yeah, I'll take this with a grain of salt, if you don't mind Sven.

Off topic: I love that you put that pic as the article pic! I lost my files a while back and I've been looking for this! Thanks!

  34. *sigh* as I'm probably one of the oldest fans on here, I must say I'm pretty appalled at the sheer stupidity of everyone on here winning and bitching as if Capcom murdered your family and seeing all this hate being spewed out due to lack of games being released.

Believe me, I'm a BIG Classic Mega Man fan and I will go to my grave loving the blue bomber, but at the end of the day, it's just a flipping game people! I know a lot of you are youngins, but when you grow older and have responsibilities, you'll learn there are more important things in life than a flippin' video game.

Does it suck that there hasn't been any good releases other than re-re-re-releases? Sure, but you have to realize Capcom is a BUSINESS, not a charity and not a restaurant to serve to your individual needs. So as a business, if you want to get their attention, then write to them and speak with your money. And be professional and courteous about it, acting like a dick will get you nowhere. Saying "Capcom is stupid and should die" or "Sven is a loser" just makes you look immensely stupid. it's no wonder Capcom doesn't take you people seriously, try winning a multi-million dollar contract with that attitude, you shouldn't be surprised how much of an epic fail you'll get.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to read my Mega Man Archie comic and then play some MM9.

  35. @Musashi the Master: There's no need to be patient for news that are never going to come bro

    ReplyDelete
  36. I still find it funny that people are suprised we haven't heard anything regarding a new game. This has happened before yknow people, it was 10 years between Megaman 8 & Megaman 9 9 years if you lived in Japan & were lucky enough to get Rockman & Forte.

Megaman 10 came out in 2010 so when you look at it it's only been nearly 2 years since the last title... technically speaking Capcom shouldn't have much trouble getting Inti Creates to do another classic title, tbh the absolute MOST i'm expecting from the 25th anniversary is a collection disc with 1-10 with maybe Megaman & Bass thown in.

  38. @November 14, 2012 12:47 AM Anon

I know, right? Ever since Legends 3 was canned, all I see is bitching and blaming by the people who think Capcom is evil in this god forsaken blog. Seriously, it's just a f**king game for god's sake! I too, was mad at Capcom for being a bunch of douches, but as time goes by, I learned that hate will only make things worse for everyone else. So I'm probably gonna get hated for this, but I forgive Capcom and hope they can redeem themselves by making a good MegaMan game without Inafue's help.

So you're right about the idiots here bitching about how Capcom is evil and is killing MegaMan and crap, you and I have gotten over this hate fest, but sadly, I wish I can say the same for the angry grown kids who are angry at Capcom for what they're doing now.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'm sure Capcom of America would want Mega Man, not too sure about Capcom of Japan though.

    ReplyDelete
  40. To be fair, statistically there will be a Mega Man in the next 25 years.

I just really doubt it will be of good quality

    ReplyDelete
  41. What Musashi and that anon fail to realize is that for some people, it's not "just a game". Some people grew up with this series and care deeply for it. Yes, there are more important thing in life, but that does not mean Megaman isn't important too. We get mad at Capcom because we care very much about the franchise and don't like the sad state that it's in right now.

    ReplyDelete
  42. @Musashi: I think what actually happened was that you didn't want people like that Anon yelling at you, so you abruptly switched gears in a painfully transparent attempt at appearing "mature". Because:

"I learned that hate will only make things worse for everyone else."

If you were really a better person, you wouldn't be condescending towards those who haven't forgiven Capcom for all the crap that's happened lately. You can rationalize all you want; it ultimately comes down to "I can't handle opinions that are not my own".

Yeah, hate will only make things worse...shame you didn't actually try to follow that advice.

  45. @Musashi: Stop trying to be superior by calling people who don't like the franchise's current situation "angry kids". You may have "gotten over it", but that doesn't mean everyone else has, you know why? Because Capcom hasn't done anything to deserve our forgiveness or our trust yet. If you can forgive them without them doing anything that's great, but not everyone is willing to do so.

    ReplyDelete
  46. @RADIX

You're proving my point of the MegaMan fanbase being an delisounai (Can't spell sometimes) rage going race of angry people.

There is a thing called waiting and patience. So here's an idea for you, be patient and wait for whatever Capcom has to say instead of getting depressed and angry at them. I doubt any of you will listen anyway.

  47. The 50th aniversary IS the next event. Methinks Svensson's plan is to foist capcom's other garbage onto us, and then claim there isn't any demand for future games.

  48. Also, Nintendo hints of Project X Zone possibly being released in the west according to the MegaMan Network.
