No Current Plans for More Mega Man Kits, Says Kotobukiya

With four quality Mega Man model kits under their belt (Zero not pictured), many fans are eager for what's next from the fine folks at Kotobukiya. Unfortunately, however, they've got nothing new on the burner according to a Facebook post by a company representative:

"Currently we don't have any new Mega Man kits scheduled but we'll be making an announcement soon about another video game "character" model kit. Keep checking this page for the latest news."

Frankly, I'm a little surprised. With so much merchandise coming out over the next few months you'd think something new from Koto would be among the lot. And here I was hoping for a Bass kit (a D-Arts will do for now, though).

On the birght side, plans change all the time. Our keyword for today is "currently" so you never know what the future could hold.

  1. It's a shame, but after so much time without any news, I wasn't really expecting anything =/

  2. Aw. :( Well, here's to hoping their plans change before long...

(Wonder what that other VG character kit is, though? Is it another version of Saber?)

  3. Rats! Oh well... I do hope they have a change in plans and give us something new. I can be a little hopeful. XD

  4. That's really too bad. I was hoping for some of the bosses. Seems all the collector oriented lines just do the main characters then quit.

  5. Probably backing out since D-Arts has entered and is expanding to Classic. Less competition is good for these, especially with such a small consumer base.

  6. I knew that Rockman Zero model kit would torpedo this whole line.

That's what you get for trying to shift production to crummy modern Megaman spinoffs. Stick with what the majority wants.

Let Bandai take this as a hint not to make that Megaman Legends D-Arts figure.

  7. Well they ran out of games to cancel what'd you expect to happen really?

  8. @Anon3: Did it ever occur to you that maybe Kotobukiya had PLANNED to end that set of model kits with MMZ-Zero?

And really, bashing a hypothetical D-Arts Volnutt in a news post that had absolutely nothing to do with one? There are plenty of people who would buy it, myself included. ACCEPT IT.

And MegaMan Star Force figures cause we all know that the Star Force series fall really hard. I'm not saying I hate MegaMan Star Force, I liked Star Force, but I get why people hated the MegaMan Star Force series and Shooting Star MegaMan.

This is one of the reasons I can't stand idiotic MegaMan Star Force fans saying that Star Force is better than the other MegaMen. All series are created equal, no matter the good or bad in them.

So yeah, a Legends and Star Force D-Arts lineup will ruin the MegaMan D-Arts series.

  10. @Musashi: "All the series are equal! NO LEGENDS OR SF D-ARTS"

    What?

No, seriously, WHAT? Shouldn't "all series are equal" imply that expanding beyond Classic and X WOULDN'T be a death sentence?

  11. LOL!!! Not surprised given that their Zero sucked! It just sucked. I love the Zero series, I really do, but the kit sucked to me. Big head, lack of weapons, and the stupidest thing they paint the Zero Knuckle's hand but not the other hands????? They could of even made small yellow parts for the chest and neck, small parts like how their Zoids kits, but nope! Jumping into the Zero, that ISN'T A SPIN OFF by the way, it takes place after the X series 100 years later, but instead of jumping into the Zero series, they should of made robot masters! Think about it! Building Guts man, Ice man, Charge man, Pharoh man, all of those would be very very VERY COOL!

  12. Yeah thanks Capcom. Another disspapointment.

  13. I'm not suprised tbh, as much as i like the Kotobukiya kits after seeing the D-Arts Rockman figure it certainly looks better, comes with Rush & a Met + you don't have to build it yourself!

I just hope Bandai keep the D-Arts line going for us Classic & X series fans the scope for Robot Masters & Maverick figures is HUGE they could do soo much with this.

  14. Well, at least Koto covered Protoman and Roll, in case Bandai decides to not use them.

But yeah, with Bandai in the ring, I’d tell Koto not to quit their day job. Not that the D-Arts Megaman Classic’s jointing makes sense, mind you, it’s just too much to have 2 different producers and scale sizes going at once.

  15. That's quite a shame, as I really wanted Auto, Junk Man, Splash Woman, & Blizzard Man to be possible additions to Kotobukiya's Rock Man model kit series. Especially Auto, as he was my favourite support character from the Classic Mega Man series.

Also, I have little interest with picking up the D-Arts figurines, especially if Bandai is just going to focus on the core cast of heroes & villains, while ignoring the boss characters.

  17. @Musashi:

I'd like to know when and where did anyone ever try to imply that Legends and Star Force were "better" than the other Megaman series.

Or is this yet another attempted preemptive Amir jab?

  18. Why is that Roll figurine not in my possession yet? Damn it, I'm so lazy. And... cheap. Lulz.

What the hell has Capcom have to do with anything? Did you even read the notice? It was Kotobukiya decision NOT CAPCOM'S!

  20. the heads were way too big on the kotobukiya kits.

  21. @1:40 PM Anon: Because Kotobukiya did boss characters and didn't focus on the core cast, right?

Look, I like the Kotobukiya kits, but they're on a really huge scale that looks weird next to a lot of my other figures, and... well, I'm not much of a kit person. No offense to those that love putting stuff together, but it's not my thing. So, I'm really hoping Bandai keeps doing classic series figures, including Proto Man and Roll (with a broom accessory).

I'd love to see Bandai dive into Robot Masters and Mavericks. I have no idea whether or not they ever will, but why do people think there was more of a chance of Kotobukiya doing that? Especially when they suddenly shifted to Mega Man Zero after only three releases from the original series and then stopped altogether?

  22. Are you kidding me? I would Kill for a Black Ace Mega Man D-Arts figure.

  23. I wouldn't mind Sonia Strumm and Harp Note D-Arts figures, myself. But, in all honesty, I'm gonna have to half agree with the people saying Star Force or Legends figures might kill the line. Not because those series are bad, but because they're not popular with the mainstream (and believe me, the original series and the X series really are what the mainstream tends to be most accepting of, when it comes to Mega Man). Us hardcore fans aren't the ONLY people buying these figures, afterall.

I really don't know if there'd be any kind of a compromise they could come to, though. I really wouldn't want to see anything kill the D-Arts line, but at the same time, I would like to see figures from the less popular (with the mainstream) series.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Or they could just do both.

It's not like D-Arts hasn't had multiple running series and franchises at the same time before in the past.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Well, what, it’s just a matter of combo packs.

For Legends you would have a 2 or 3 pack that includes Trigger and Roll, possibly Tron, then Starforce would have Geo and Omega-Xis, Sonia and Harp Note, and then maybe one armor or suit for Geo. All in limited quantity. Say, maybe even a convention special or something.
