R20 Revised Edition Announced

To commemorate the Blue Bomber's 25th anniversary, the mega-sized R20: Rockman & Rockman X Official Complete Works artbook is going to be republished with brand-new content.

Tentatively dubbed “R20: Revised Edition”, the book will see the addition of special content from manga artists Hitoshi Ariga and Yoshihiro Iwamoto. What's more, we're willing to bet Mega Man 9 and 10 artwork will be included as well, since both games released after the original R20 was published.

Lastly, Capcom's prepping a huge Q&A for all Mega Man series artists. You can tweet your questions with the hashtag “#R20増補." You're free to tweet as many questions as you'd like, but not all will be addressed (and please, keep it civil). Questions will no longer be accepted after October 11th at 1PM Japan time.

So hopefully we'll be seeing and hearing a lot more about the book soon. And UDON? Do your due diligence and localize this!

  1. I dunno, I'd rather have a completely new artbook, to be honest

  2. If I had the original, I'd probably feel irritated because I had to buy the more complete version.

I don't mean to sound negative though! I'm glad Capcom is releasing more.

  4. Pretty cool, I guess, but it's still not what we're looking for.

  6. I have to say, this is crap to reissue the book with new content after many people already bought the original release at full price. yes it's a awesome book but it's kind of a slap in the face to those who already own it without the extra content.

wouldn't it have been better to just make another book with the new artwork in it? I think r-20 is a awesome book but I'm not rebuying it a second time since I bought the first release of r-20 for $60 a couple years ago.

  7. "R20 Revised Edition"

They could just call it R25, but that's just me. doing that would likely just get boos and calls of "rehashing"

R20 Revised Edition doesnt sound too bad. Again though, it's just wierd to have a 25th anniversary book named after the 20th anniversary, yknow? so maybe R25 wouldnt be so bad after all.

  8. So, Capcom's mentality of releasing slightly updated products as stand-alones has now spread from their games to their books.

Look, it's not that I don't want some MM9/MM10 goodness, believe me. But given the average length that one game covers in MMOCW, adding two to a book I already own isn't all that enticing.

Call me when they've got a DASH/Legends art book, assuming of course that Capcom still has the Rebound Strikers to do it.

  9. Hm! Not bad. Certainly a step in the right direction. :3

  10. I wonder how much new content is in it. I didn't buy the X book, but I did get the original series book. I thought it could have used more info on the manga. It didn't even scratch the surface of what's available. I'd like to see those other manga translated too.

If Udon does translate this, I hope they don't split it up into two volumes like the previous book. I'd also like to see a hardcover edition.

  11. Too much merchandise... not enough true sequels to our favorite Megaman games... argh!

DASH 2 book + Music CD were sold on Capcom's JP webstore up 'till about a year ago.

  13. If UDON's localizing it we'll be lucky to have it by the 30th anniversary.

Assuming Mega Man is still a thing then. Wouldn't bet on it.

  14. Wow. Capcom's corporate policy of reselling the same games over and over again is spilling into their art books.

  15. I'd be more likely to buy it if there were more information to be added... you know, from NEW GAMES?

  16. To paraphrase my own comment at TMMN: I'm looking forward to this, but at the same time, I'm getting worried.

There's tons of Megaman-related things--RS-MM, Captain N, Rockman and Forte 2, those Artbox cards, the Archie comic, NAdM, SAR--that could be worth their own separate volume, not just 9 and 10. RS-MM's production art alone could probably take up at least half the book.

Is this just standard Capcom re-release shenanigans (albeit spilling over into their books now), or have they really not added much new content?

  17. RADIX took the words right out of my mouth. This is something to look foward to ONLY if there is plenty of new content that makes this book worth getting. I payed a good price for the first release and it would be utter bullshit if I had to pay $50-60 for a book with the same stuff and only a small amount of content added! I hope Capcom does not pull that crap. Giving them my money for something that could be half-assed is not something I want to do.

  18. Part of me wonders if UDON will not even bother to localize this because of the little amount of content added. Unless they discontinue the original book and sell this one instead. I'd be pretty annoyed then since I too also have a copy of the original.

  19. How about a R25 book with the new content plus Legends and ZX? Those two series are the only ones missing in the Official Complete Works line. And Capcom better not forget to include MML3! :P
