Farewell, Seth Killian

This isn't Mega Man news, per se, but I wanted to take this time to give a shout out to someone who's been very important to the Mega Man community, and this blog.

Seth Killian announced today he will be departing from Capcom, relinquishing his six-year position as strategic marketing director of online and community.  Perhaps best known for his contributions to the Street Fighter community, Seth also played a pivotal role in establishing a direct line of communication with Mega Man fans in Capcom Unity's heyday.

The Mega Man forums, Ask Capcom, the Suggestions Box, and even the Devroom... Seth's had a hand in all of that.  You have Seth to thank for projects like Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10, too. He supported the development of those games from day one, believe it or not! A Mega Man fan at heart, Seth always did what he could to assist us; fielding our questions, dropping hints, supporting fan projects. His support will be missed.

On a personal note, Seth helped me launch Rockman Corner.  Way back when, he'd religiously post content from here to Capcom Unity.  Consequently, Rockman Corner achieved an audience that has grown considerably over the years.  Needless to say, he has my thanks.

Wishing you all the best in your future endeavors, Seth.  And please, don't hesitate to spill the beans on that Mega Man 9 secret!

  3. Capcom's true intention is killing somebody like Inafune, Ono, Seth Killian, that woman who claimed Capcom are bullies to her, and other memebers of Capcom... so no one's supporting Megaman for good.

    Unbelievable...!

  4. Must be because of the decline in Megaman activity and the backlash that has happened over Street Fighter and the DLC fiasco.

At the same time, his reputation has been going down the shitter because of the fault of others, meaning he's probably getting out. I am VERY curious now about the anniversary...

  5. Didn't Seth also get TVC localized over here in the US?

  6. Thank god. What a dbag. I did not like his trolling.

  7. Damn. One of the few people from Capcom I actually liked. Calling it now, Greg is next.

  9. Seth is an incredibly smart individual. (He even has a Ph.D!) I know it's the "in" thing to diss the fighting games on this site, but Seth's position as a liaison from the fighting community to the company has played a huge part in making Street Fighter 4 (and by extension, the whole fighting genre) the success that it is. He understands the games so deeply it's almost mind-blowing. Check out any of the old "Domination 101" essays he wrote at Shoryuken to see what I mean. (You can also see some of his more "unfiltered" personality in those, which I hope we get to see more of now that he's out of the company.)

He has made a huge contribution to making Capcom a more community-oriented and open company across the board, not just for the fighting games. I don't think Capcom-Unity would be half the site it is now without him.

I can't wait to see what his "new dream" is. I hope it's something still within the industry in some capacity.

  10. This is a very sad day. Seth was one of the only people in the industry whom almost everyone agreed genuinely cared about fans. I had hoped to see him again at PAX in a couple weeks. I wish him well, but more than that, I wish he'd stay.

  12. I think he's leaving because of all the bitter megaman fans that couldn't take his jokes.

On a serious note, whichever company he works for next is in for a serious boost in awesomeness.

  16. I wouldnt be surprised if it was due to the recent revelations about just how shit Capcom of Japan treats it's employees. Especially Ono recently. Who collapsed from overwork, and yet when he returned to work, there was no acknowledgement at all that he had been in the hospital.

  17. Aw man. I actually liked the guy and his support for the cause. Oh well. Good luck Seth!

Will we ever know the mysterious secret of MM9?

  19. After all of the crap he's received from people whining about every single little thing he said, I'm really not surprised.

Still, this is saddening news all the same, and I wish him luck. He'll definitely be missed, practically being the only notable staff member from Capcom who still cared about MM. I wonder what will happen now...
