Project X Zone Revealed; Mega Man X and Zero Confirmed

At last, Capcom's collaboration between Sega and Namco Bandai has been revealed in this week's Famitsu. As anticipated, the game is called Project X Zone (the 'X' is pronounced as "cross"). The game is a strategy RPG featuring characters from all three companies.

The good news for us? Mega Man X and Zero are in the game. According to the magazine, characters will team up in pairs for fight scenes. Naturally, X and Zero act as each other's partners. UPDATE: A scan of the dynamic duo in action has been revealed. The pair are shown duking it out with a Met in an area that strongly resembles Cyber Peacock's stage. Incidentally, the bottom right screen shows X and Zero performing attacks from X4 -- Twin Slasher and Raijingeki respectively.

The two Maverick Hunters will be joined by the following pairings:

Capcom
Ryu & Ken (Street Fighter Zero), X and Zero (Mega Man), Demitri and Dante (Darkstalkers and Devil May Cry), Chris and Jill (Resident Evil)

Sega
Shinguji Sakura and Ogami Ichiro (Sakura Wars), Pai and Akira (Virtua Fighter), Kurt and Riela (Valkyria Chronicles), Ulala and Touma (Space Channel 5 and Shining Force EXA)

Namco Bandai
Sanger Somvold (Super Robot Wars), Jin and Ling Xiaoyu (Tekken), Kos-Mos and T-elos (Xenosaga), Yuri and Estelle (Tales of Vesperia), Kite and Black Rose (.hack)

Famitsu also notes a trailer for PXZ will debut later this month. Exciting stuff. Stay tuned!

  1. All we need now are some idolmaster characters, lol

  2. ...It's seriously awesome to finally have both X and Zero, it is. But most of SEGA's roster is obscure characters with no Sonic in sight. WHAT'S UP WITH THAT?!

  3. @NoahTH: It's suspected this ISN'T the final roster. Because lets be serious.

    There's no villains.

In addition, since they go in pairs...

We only have 13 hero units.

Thats no where near enough for this kind of RP. In addition, Sonic is a big name. I think the key here is introduce THE big names on Capcom first, then in later trailers/reveals, the bigger names of Namco and Sega will be revealed so their thunder isn't stolen as much.

Here's to hoping for Sonic for the heroes and Sigma for the villains!

(Although if it is done like Namco x Capcom, EXE would be nice....)

  4. Just a heads-up but Kaito (of .hack) is actually Kite.

Oh yeah though, so very excited to see this game!

  5. wehey X and Zero! Also Yuri (no E on the end) and Estelle, this'll be one amazing game!

  6. YES YES YES YES YES YES YES This is how you make a video game people can get excited for.

  7. Meh, a mascot SRPG developed by Namco Bandai? Because when I think of my favorite Mega Man things I certainly don't think of any Capcom-made game, right? Sounds like Namco × Capcom which only Japan got and which was supposedly pretty tepid. Can we get a real game, please?

  8. Don't get too excited yet. Sega's list makes me think the fight for localization should begin NOW.

  9. I'm surprised they chose the Street Fighter Zero versions of Ryu and Ken...and I'm glad they did!

Good to see X and Zero on the roster!

Pretty awesome! Nice to see X series characters again. And Tales of characters, too? Now we're talking! But obviously, whoever wrote that article hasn't played Tales of Vesperia. It's "Yuri and Estelle," not Yurie and Estel. (Kinda surprised Namco didn't choose the dynamic duo, Yuri and Flynn.)

  11. inb4 X and Zero get the smallest role

  12. So basically... Namco x Capcom version 2?

Maybe they'll actually localize this one, provided if the entire game isn't one giant wall of text like the other one was...

    ReplyDelete
  13. As I said before. It's a sequel to Namco x Capcom.

It's nice that X and Zero are in it, though I think I'm still more excited over Devilot. XD

  14. Sounds fun... though I would have liked to see some "Skies of Arcadia" characters.

  15. Just waiting for Morrigan&Lilith; Regina again but this time with Dylan; Felicia&Bulleta, maybe ?
Oh well, gonna have to wait.
Would be cool if Axl appear teaming up with Red.
I can feel that this game will be awesome, just like was Namco x Capcom.

  16. Sanger FTW! I may be a huuuge megaman fan, but not even Zero's Z-Saber or even the Sigma Blade can match up to Sanger's Zankantou...

    ReplyDelete
  17. @Joseph: It is not a sequel. A sequel would require the presence of the Legends characters and spinoff RE characters,

  18. Sega needs characters from Phantasy Star 4. Give me Chaz and Rika or Rune. LEAVE HAHN!!!! If this game comes out, I want to play it.

  20. Capcom's side looks absolutely delicious. Here's hoping for Sonic.

  21. X and Zero <3
    Yeah !

    Good thing for MMX!

  22. Right after the Devroom group surpassed the Lost Planet group on Cap Unity, LP3 gets announced... is that irony?

  23. X Pronounced as 'Cross'
Digimon Xros Wars All over again.

  24. So any chance this game will come to the US?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Btw, the battle system is clearly from the SRW OG Saga: Endless Frontier games. Heck even KOS-MOS' sprite is the same.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Does no one else realize that Volnutt has technically been replaced? He was in Namco X Capcom ;_;

    ReplyDelete
  27. Since 3DS is not region free, I doubt 90% of the US and European fanbase will never get to play the game anyways. Sad that the game most likely will never be played by many, besides who would publish the game?

If you were to ask me two years ago whether the game would be released stateside, I would have said yes, look at what Capcom went through to release Tatsunoko vs Capcom in the west... but Capcom of today...

    ReplyDelete
  28. Damn it meant to say ever play, instead of never play up above... oh well ha ha.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Of course it was X... though, I still think it'd have been nice to have Model X instead. I'd love to have seen the conversation between Vent/Aile and Zero.

But... Kite and Black Rose? I'm guessing Cyrille is going in with Toma...

Ooooh, man, if Cross Edge hadn't already made me wary as hell about crossover games, I'd be all over this.

Well, I guess it could have been worse. It could have been Classic MM and Blues. God, I'm sick of classic even more than of X... No offense, guys who like it. I just prefer to look to the future instead of live in the past.

...God, that sounded pretentious as hell. Let me try that again.

I'm more excited about seeing what Megaman can evolve into, rather than being fine with what's already been established. It's why I'm kinda "eh..." at MM9 - he got downgrades!

  30. Funny but it's Tear from Tales of the Abyss, not Estelle is shown on the characters picture.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Valkyria Chronicles, Megaman, KOS-MOS... I can only hope for a localization.

SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY

    ALL OF IT

  32. FINALLY!!! Capcom does somthing right!

  33. Team up's? But if Kazuma is in it, he won't need team ups. Unless they team him up with Majima, then every combo will end with a truck.

Also needs more Red the hunter from solatorobo. And Ryu from beath of fire. And this list will never realistically end.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Well, this is entirely not interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  35. The 3DS itself doesn't region-lock though; it's the actual companies that choose whether or not to lock their games. Nintendo gave them the choice and most just decided to region-lock so they don't have to deal with software pirates.

  36. Ulala for Sega's team?

I'd play this game! But I still want to see House of the Dead characters. I don't care if they get Lisa and Daniel from HotD3; SUPPORT THE HOUSE OF THE DEAD, DANGIT!!

Also, X fans better be happy about this. Even if the game doesn't come stateside, at least X is playable in the game.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Never been a fan of SRPG's myself. Still, this is interesting news.

    ReplyDelete
  38. This is great! X is finally showing up in one of the crossover games. Although, no Sonic and Tails? WHAT.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I just hope this game actually ends up good.

Namco X Capcom may have generated lots of hype, but the actual final product was less than decent. It became extremely repetitive for a 50+ chapter SRPG, boring, and it boiled down to 8 or so units being WAY more powerful than the rest because of how overpowered they were in comparison even prior to Leveling Up.

Hell, Ryu was the most broken unit in the game, overall, and the only time the game was "difficult" was during the Satsui no Hadou ni Mezameta Ryu arc where he left the party temporarily.

Then again, I have my doubts on this game even being available outside of Asia and Europe regions. (Europe seems to be lucking out a lot lately for these kinda releases)

I really DO want to play this, though. Seeing Virtua Fighter and Street Fighter in one game is already more than good enough for me. But seeing the rest of the cast is even nicer, too. Though I can't shake the feeling that Rockman X's sprites seem very similar to that one MUGEN fighter.... Card Saga Wars or something...

  40. I don't particularly like Strategy RPGs...but it's a step in the right direction I think.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Happy with X and Zero in this game, but what's up with the absence of Sonic?

    ReplyDelete
  42. @Amir

Remember Project Rainfall? The orgsnzied fight to bring Xenoblade Chronicles and The Last Story by fans who want them to be released in the USA and Europe and maybe Pandora's Tower, and guess what? Their hard work finally pay off.

So I predict the same will go for this game. If it doesn't, at least there will be fans of the series in this game will do something to convince the makers to release it worldwide.

    ReplyDelete
  43. yay another game that's never going to be released in the us! :D can't you sense the sarcasm there?

    ReplyDelete
  44. I just saw a picture of a world from every games. Found Willamette's Movie Land from Dead Rising, so Frank West might appear in the game.

And there was one part of the area that looks like Green Hill from Sonic series, but I may be wrong.
