Rockman EXE Turns Eleven

Maybe not everyone is aware, but the first Rockman EXE (Mega Man Battle Network) game released in Japan on March 21st, 2001. Technically, it's the 21st in the East right now, so EXE official turned eleven years old today.

Fourteen games and five anime seasons later, EXE remains as one of the more successful/popular series'. In the interim, the fanbase continued to thrive: communities are just as devoted as always, and unwavering passion is leading the way to new projects. And, of course, demand for a full-blown revival is just as fiery as it's always been.

So for now, congratulations on eleven years, EXE. Hope to see you again some day!

  2. 11 years... to think I was so excited back then to find a working emulator that ran the game at 50% speed with no sound.

Japan got it at the GBA launch, but we had to wait a while.

  3. Huh, I completely forgot about this. Guess this means I should pick up the pace for the project I'm working on.

  4. Since Capcom isn't delivering, what makes me excited about this series is what the fans are doing

(I could say the same for Legends, Classic and X, but I feel specially attached to the MMBN fan projects somehow)

So, if there's still MMBN fans who haven't heard about these, here's the links:

  5. I love how people liked to attack this series for being "pokemon clones", which essentially made it really clear that they'd never actually played it.

To be honest, this series and Golden Sun are the ones that turned me into a handheld fangirl. Until then, I was always more of a console kind of girl, but then - along with my GBA, I got GS and EXE2. They both made really big impressions on me.

EXE2 remains my favorite of the EXE franchise to date - even though I acknowledge 3 and 6 as being better. It just made that much of an impression on me when I was a kid.

  6. 11 years? Does that mean all that Mayl "fanart" isn't weird anymore?

EXE/Battle Network is one of my favorite series. I wouldn't mind a seventh game, but I doubt it'll happen after how badly Star Force and Operate Shooting Star tanked.

  9. You know what would be cool?

A MMORPG based on Battle Network. Design your Navi, he calls you by your name. NetSquares with real BBSs, different internet areas, even Undernet, everything. With both a full client for PC, and a lite client for Android/iPhone, so it actually feels like a Navi on your PET.

  15. I forgot about this. Shows how fast the past year has been. So much yet so little.

Here's to another year, to whatever it brings us.
