Capcom Comments On Possible "Traditional" Attire For BBA Mega Man

Following the reveal of Bad Box Art Mega Man in Street Fighter X Tekken, fans quickly took to the Ask Capcom forums to voice their opinions concerning the Blue Bomber's appearance.

One user by the name of Daemon Gildas asked if the prospect of a more "traditional" costume was within the realm of possibility, perhaps as DLC. Vice-president of Strategic Planning & Business Development, Christian Svensson, stepped in to field the inquiry, leaving a hopeful (albeit short) response.

Daemon Gildas: "Is there any chance at a more traditional "costume" for Mega Man in Street Fighter X Tekken? What about using the "Mega Man" seen on the movie-posters in Dead Rising? Or maybe a look based on the Ruby-Spears cartoon? That way, we have the option of a less-creepy incarnation of the Blue Bomber, while still playing along with the slightly-cheesy nature."

Svensson: "Interesting suggestion. Maybe. Let me chat about it with Ono."

For those not in the know, Yoshinori Ono is the producer of Street Fighter X Tekken. One year prior to Keiji Inafune's leave, Ono received the former's blessing when opting to include BBA Mega Man in the game. However, fans are still largely irked by the decision, with criticism largely directed at the character's exaggerated proportions and biography (which takes an inexplicable poke at the Mega Man Legends mythology).

There's no guarantee Ono will yield to the idea, but Svensson's on the case regardless. In the meantime, you can try your hand at pitching the suggest yourself directly at the producer via Twitter.

  1. Ruby Spears Megaman would certainly be a hell of a lot less ofensive

  2. Man, enough with the Ruby Spears Megaman! I know there's a fan that kept on on on on on and on talking about it and suggesting it with everything that came to topic. But I swear I'm getting tired of Ruby Spears from the fan when I know I know it's not going to happen.
Although... in this case, Ruby Spears Megaman would be pretty cool in the game, he like fits with the game. So it'd be cool to see him in the game since it's been years from the cartoon that i'd wake up early to watch and try to miss school just to watch my favorite episodes! lol!
    Good times... Good times...

  3. @second Anon:

Wait, so you spent the first paragraph basically ripping at RS Megaman and then instantly switched to loving him in the next block of text?

Wow... now THAT'S what you call indecisive.

  4. As much as I'd like playable RS-MM, Ruby Spears is defunct. :(

"Traditional" attire--if we have to ask Ono, then we might end up regretting it. Still worth a shot, I guess.

  5. This is Ono he's a troll.

If anything he'll throw in a Captain N Mega Man alt.

  6. Considering that the game's surely gone gold or is incredibly close to it, it's not something that's gonna get added last-second for sure. But consider too that people at Capcom have recently said it's "near impossible post release to add content to a title that wasn't planned for before the title was released," (see here: http://www.eventhubs.com/news/2012/jan/27/sven-talks-about-mega-mans-appearance-street-fighter-x-tekken/) I have a strong feeling that this idea is either never going to happen, or was already planned before this question was asked to Svensson.

  8. Last I checked, this game has a Color Edit feature.

You can just edit his colors to appear like a regular colored Mega Man, people. :/

  9. Disappointed. This is sickening.

  10. Does anyone have the rest of that comic? I forgot to save it even though it ravaged my sides.

  11. Third anon, the tears would be delicious. But it would feel out of place seeing how it is not on a Nintendo platform.

  12. @SaitoKojima: Yes, because the color is so obviously the only thing wrong with this abomination

Umm... You can't read??? The 2nd Anonymous was talking about a fan from before who would always suggest Ruby Spears Megaman in any topic like say this article was of Legends and then out of nowhere there's a Ruby Spears Megaman comment. Like that I guess. And then the person tells his side of memories of the old cartoon. Indecisive... lol! You can't read! lol!

  14. Every one is taking this the wrong way, Ono is a fan of mega man. Trust me, it's Nitsuuma that needs our hate. That bastard outright lies, and seems to have a vendetta against Mega Man.

  15. @VoiceOfReason: Ono's also a master troll, so I can see why people are wary. Agreed on Niitsuma, though.

  16. I like how anyone who has a negative opinion about BBA Mega Man is instantly labeled an immature idiot. Am I wrong for wanting my all-time favorite game character to have a little dignity? And you gotta admit this "joke" is very poorly timed. The franchise is in pretty bad condition right now and they go and do something like this. Not very tasteful.

  17. I would have to agree, giving the incarnation of Mega Man that most of us grew up watching a chance in an actual game would be quite awesome and A LOT better than the heap we got. Of course, the entire model would have to be changed. He couldn't use his gun either. I say the best we're going to get with the traditional look is Mega Man 2's box art Mega. Also, his move set looks to be pretty "heavy" based around his looks. I doubt any other incarnation would look right fighting like that.

Captain N gets my vote. Would work a lot better than MM2's box art. N's Mega is already a little fat ass. This would make it seem like he "grew up" lol...it'd actually be funny and not so much an absolute joke.

  19. I do not know guys , in my opinion that is a good move . Instead of over and over playing the same version of character we are getting a guy based on something that only real Megaman fan can understand . ( Who else knows that Rockman used to have such a cover ? ) Also BBA MM was supposed to appear in MM Universe , and I think that it is where the idea was born . Also the fact that it is pointing at Megaman Legends is most probably supposed to commerce existence of MML , being a sign that the game is not or should not be dead as of yet ?

  20. Ono may be so busy working on the game he doesn't know MMU and MML3 were cancelled! (Although I really doubt it)

  21. I don't see how anyone's missing "why" BBA Mega Man has Volnutt's profile. BBA Mega Man is born of the 80's localization standard. The kind that came with maybe tertiary, if any, concern for fidelity to the source material. Part aesthetically, with the design of as we've seen hammered for BBA. But it also tended to have misinformation, supposition, or contrivances published or reported without much scrutiny.

So the punchline behind this idea is that in this frame of satire; that "someone" in the whole of the international publication circle confused BBA Mega Man with the "other" Mega Man. With a few extra inconsistencies thrown in for good measure.

Not saying that anyone isn't free to have an opinion of that. How it may not be funny at all considering the timing, and the fate of both the referenced Mega Men's games. How it may be mitigated by Inafune's reported input, or when Inafune's input happened.

But... I don't know why anyone can seriously piece together "'They' did it to piss us off. I know because it pisses me off.". And consider themselves rational.

  22. I'd rather not have a "traditional" costume for MM in SFxT. IMO, I think it's a waste to ask Capcom to dress up a character so it looks like MM when it's really not. Same thing with UMvC3. Unless that X costume has the name "Mega Man X" under his health bar and has a different voice and quotes, I don't believe that alternate is appropriate for Zero.
