Inafune Joins Mega Man Legends 3 Revival Effort

Mega Man Legends fans and rebels, you have Keiji Inafune's sword. The former Capcom Global Head of production has left words of encouragement for the Get Me off the Moon campaign, pledging support in reinstating Mega Man Legends 3. In other words, the man is officially on our side.

Originating from his personal blog, the statement has been translated into English courtesy of Team Legends. Select portions below (full piece available at Get Me Off the Moon's FaceBook page):

"A product which has ignored the fans' hearts as it has taken shape cannot be born a hit. We cannot give up on the idea of rebooting DASH as long as the fans' hearts continue to give the series life. I also think that I will continue cheering on these fans, and I will continue to feel as though I am a special member of this revival project myself. I would like to see the day that my juniors' dreams of reviving DASH 3 come true. There are various voices which recklessly fly around throughout this movement, however, I will continue cheering them on.

[...]

"If the fans' feelings are considered, those fans can sway the producers and strengthen their resolve. That feeling of wanting to give up can be eased by overcoming all the obstacles and challenges we may face, until DASH 3 is completed at last. It can happen! Together, let's never give up. Let's continue cheering, okay? Do your best, my juniors!"

It is the hope of many that Inafune's presence will help draw in more supporters, simultaneously eliciting a response from Capcom. A sort of "Oh, wow. He's in on this?", reaction. Of course, we can't guarantee this will help things on Capcom's side. Nonetheless, I'm confident Inafune's support will help bring more attention to the campaign, at the very least skyrocketing the number of "likes."

Now then, I've gotta emphasis something: Inafune is not the secret Capcom supporter we've been teasing. That news is still forthcoming. All I can say is he's been a large part of the Mega Man franchise for well over a decade, having a hand in the production of several titles. Keep your expectations in check, and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised!

  4. Alright.

Now, why don't I see this on Kotaku yet?

  5. You've been teasing about a secret Capcom supporter?

Well, that should be an interesting reveal.

  6. While this is encouraging, I can't help but think that his outright official public support of the group is probably going to lead to Capcom not restarting the project anytime soon.

This is probably what's going through the Capcom's execs minds now:

'Hey, Inafune joined that group. If we restart the project, people will actually give him some credit for it! We must not let that happen no matter what!'

    :(

  10. Dear (former) Capcom Grand Master Infaking...

Today we all have learned that no matter what the odds of something coming true, we should never think that it can't happen. sometimes miracles just have to have a little time to get working, and that's what makes life truly special in it's own way...

    Your faithful Student,

It's either because of all the people whining about the amount of attention the group has been getting over there/the movement being hopeless, or none of the staff is awake at the moment.

  12. I dunno how well Capcom will take this, but it's still great to know that Inafking is supporting the revival effort. :)

  13. Wow. That's kind of all I can say right now. Wow.

I always kind of looked up to Inafune as the soul behind MegaMan, but I think it's just hit me right now, how much Inafune might be like us - a true fan and gamer at heart. Guess I thought of him as far away and disconnected from fans (maybe even disconnected from reality, with his ideals of what game development should be), but his words are extremely encouraging today.

Rock on, Inafune. You really are the man.

  14. That's what I'm talking about. Let's show em what we got.

  15. We have a chance. Oh let this catch Capcom's attention.

  16. ZeroX_Syaoran, if huge reaction that occurred as a result of the cancellation didn't get their attention, this won't either. I think they realize they were mistaken, but have too much pride to admit they were wrong.

  17. @Prower42: I just have to say, the "FiM" format there? Love it~!

Anyway. The secret Mega Man supporter? Obviously Kanye West. He's the voice of a generation, and a genius.

As the voice of a generation, that means THE ENTIRE GENERATION wants Mega Man Legends 3.

  18. Keep them going! Inafune will join our cause to revive Mega Man Legends 3! Let's spread our words to the world once again!

Go, Inafune and all of Mega Man fans, go! :D

  19. I seriously hate Facebook more than anything else (due to attention seeking). I'm considering making one so I can join Get Me Off The Moon. Is it worth it?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Let him have it for his new company. Maybe he will make Megaman X9 and Megaman 11 continuously. Cheers.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hell yeah! The man behind MegaMan is on our side and is joining the cause.

    Take that, trolls and Crapcom!

Maybe this can make a differnce. We can't give up hope! Legends never die!

  22. If they don't make it, people complain.

If they do make it, it doesn't meet expectations, people complain.

You really can't win in this situation.

If you think about it, if Capcom did keep making MegaMan games without Inafune, they'd probably suck ass. They'd drag MegaMan's rep through the mud until he becomes the next Sonic The Hedgehog: A blue, vintage video game icon that once represented the pinnacle of gaming awesomeness now relegated to a pale, vapid imitation of his former self due entirely to a declining change of the creative guard and arrogant, short-sighted corporate minds.

It's better if MegaMan went into an "X-like" hibernation until more responsible people have the authority to use him properly.

  23. Smartest thing Capcom can do is let Inafune's company develop their Megaman titles from now on. It'd save face for Capcom and be good PR for them.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Great to hear Inafune-san's supporting the effort to revive this project! However, am I the only one who found part of that English translation to be awkward and, at certain points, even incoherent? But I digress.

Sadly, I also share in the sentiment that, given suspected antagonistic feelings toward Inafune by some members of Capcom corporate, this could be counterproductive to the effort, at least at first.

I'd rather have Inafking on our side, though, no matter how it immediately affects the odds of a project revival. His presence and encouragement is a definite morale booster and will draw more support, whatever short-term setbacks it could cause, if any.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Let Inafune have it in his own company. And his next megaman games as well. It would be awesome. :)

  26. YEAH
WE GOT DA MAN ON OUR SIDE

  27. Glorious news. Of course, he was the original "freedom fighter" for Legend 3. =D

I just really hope he can strike a deal with Capcom that allows him and his new team to continue it. No doubt they'll be closely in touch with the other dev team. (If I was in the old team, I'd resign to Comcept post haste! =P)

    ReplyDelete
  28. With Inafune's support, Capcom would be fools not to go through with the revival of Legends 3 now. Hmm, then again, they were fools for canceling it in the first place.

    ReplyDelete
  29. i'm curious why he wants legends 3 instead of X9 or MM11. Those were his original creations. what makes legends so special to him?

think about it. X was the top in the polls for MVC3 in america AND japan. not volnut. not original, starforce or even exe.

so he's doing this for the legends fans, not just mega man fans in general. if it was for fans in general, why not go with the most popular series? keiji must have some reason for picking legends over MM, X, EXE and Starforce.

  30. Secret Capcom supporter? There was a tease on that? Never heard of such a thing.

    ReplyDelete
  31. @Dr. Jerk:

Been teasing it on my Twitter. I'm certain many of you guys will love the reveal.

    It's coming soon.

  32. @October 20, 2011 2:21 PM: Inafune has stated MANY times since Legends' creation that Dash is his favorite series. The charm, story, and characters all play a role in that.
Legends/Dash has one of the most fleshed out worlds and stories of all the series, being an action rpg and all. Any one saying the game controls clunky only says so because the game predated Ocarina of Time and yet, (to me at least) feels better to me. If you have played 1 and 2 and have been left with the conclusion of 2 for over 10 years (which while awesome, was a major let down for leaving Mega on Elysium), you would want a Legends 3 also, if not only to conclude the series. While I do agree that Classic and X are great games, that I love to death, Legends (to me at least) has far more charm.

  33. I was not aware there was ever any doubt that Inafune was on our side. But I guess confirmation is nice.

    ReplyDelete
  34. ALRIGHT! Let's fighting love!

  35. @Protodude:

Unless it's Mark Gatha or Lucas Gilbertson, it won't be too big of a shocking reveal. XD

    ReplyDelete
  36. @Amir:

I can safely say it isn't either of those two. This is a guy who won't be a poster-child like Inafune; he'll be *producing* content for the campaign.

    Producing is the key word.

    ReplyDelete
  37. @Protodude:

I weep that it is not Mark Gatha.

    He needs to come back.

    ReplyDelete
  38. @Amir:

I wish he could come back. Doubt he's any free time, what with being a doctor and all now.

Still, I wouldn't mind tracking him down.
