Mega Man, Servbot Cameo In Street Fighter X Tekken

Capcom's big surprise yesterday was the unveiling of Street Fighter X Tekken (and Tekken X Street Fighter), a brand new collaborative project between Capcom and Namco Bandai that pits characters from both the Street Fighter and Tekken universes against each other.  What's noteworthy about this announcement are a couple Mega Man nods featured in both the game's announcment trailer and subsequent gameplay footage...

Towards the end of the trailer (below), there's a brief sequence of Pac-Man giving chase to an 8-bit Mega Man.

While it's by no means a confirmation, some are speculating this might be a hint that Pac-Man and Mega Man will be bonus characters, maybe even playable. Not much to go off of, but I do see how one could think that. We'll see what happens.

Of course, what would a Capcom fighting game be without a Servbot cameo? An over-sized Servbot head makes an appearance during a bit of SFxT gameplay footage (55 second mark):

Likely many, many more Servbot cameos to come.

So, what do you make of this whole Pac-Man x Mega Man thing? A cute, innocent sequence or a hint of what's to come?

  1. Ehh, this stuff's pretty standard by now.

  2. I say from just watching that one part of the trailer alone, It's to not exactly say that they're in the game, but more of showing something about those two characters. Megaman is capcoms mascot in many fans eyes, and Pacman is pretty much Namcos oldest and most known creation.

  3. Hmm, not bad. Why couldn't they do the same thing for Mega Man Universe? By that, I mean showing some actual gameplay, of course.

  4. @ Krazy Monkey: I think that this game has been in development for a while.

MMU, on the other hand... I remember the teasing for MMU before it showed up in trademarks, and the teasing suggested that development had -just- started then.

But still, it was a really areshole move by Capcom to get us all hyped up the week before, and then tell us nothing definitive in terms of gameplay afterwards.

  5. lol imagine if Pac Man was indeed a Robot Master.

*Pac Man is chosen. Cue Stage Selected while Pac Man does a Ginyu pose*

Mega Man: *checks his armor colour*...well, I'm screwed.

  6. so the big announcement is ANOTHER fighting game cross over?!?

I'm sorry, but we already have MvC3 coming along. Why do we need another cross over?

No offense to Capcom, cause I love their franchises. Especially their Mega Man franchise. But I'm kind of getting tired of them developing fighting games like this.

    EPIC FAIL!

  8. Since I'm not a Street Fighter player, I'm looking forward to Tekken X Street Fighter a lot more. That's not to say I won't get both of them, though.

  9. @Protodude:
I agree with MegamanMegafan, it's just showing their 2 famous mascots. Considering it's SFxT, it'll probably be strictly Street Fighter characters.

    @Krazy Monkey:
This game is using SFIV's engine, so a lot of it is already made. MMU has to be made from the ground up (hopefully) so obviously there's more development time before being able to show gameplay.

While I'm not a big fan of Tekken and I do agree there's been a lot of fighters lately, SFxT looks like it'll be made in a similar style to CvS2, which contrasts MvC3's crazy and outrageous style. Bear in mind that MvC2 and CvS were both released in 2000.

Are you sure it was you? It may be another Amir. Cause if you lied, you just made a big fool out of yourself.

  12. Incredible, this game looks awesome...but I will agree with N64 Mario, Capcom has too many Crossover fighting games on the go. Vote Mega Man X for MvsC3. ^_^

  13. Namco x Capcom became a fighting game! I think the end with Pac & Mega is just a innocent funny trailer. The least that could happen is them having a cameo appearance like the Servbots. It would be funny to see stages based on those two: A old style maze and Wily's Castle with a Dr. Heihachi Mishima.

  14. That's all well and fine, but if you've got Capcom/Street Fighter characters in your line-up, who would want to play as Tekken characters?

  15. Street Fighters may be for standards and Tekken may be for experts, due to the command moves. But hey, this game looks kinda good, and I really like it! But on the other hand, I was hoping they'd bring Namco VS Capcom, brings other all-star characters in the brawl; such as Megaman VS KOS-MOS, or Souki VS Mitsurugi.
