Rumor: Official Mega Man Short Film In Production

According to a reliable source, Capcom is in the midst of pre-production for a short live action rendition of the classic Zero vs. Sigma fight sequence from Mega Man X4, as an act of service to the fans. The sequence is being produced by the same film crew behind the mini Dead Rising live action film, and is set to debut online some time next year.

Confirmation of this comes from none other than Lucas Gilbertson, who provided the voice of Zero in Mega Man X Command Mission, Mega Man X8, and Mega Man: Maverick Hunter X. According to Lucas, not only is he at the helm of the project, but he's also set to star in the role of Zero.

While it sounds a bit hard to swallow, both Lucas and my source (who's chosen to remain anonymous) assured me that the project is very real and is moving forward. Needless to say, this should be very interesting. I'll keep you posted on any future developments.

  3. Mega Man X4, alongside Mega Man 8, has GOT to have some of THE worst voice acting ever. So bad, in fact, that it's HILARIOUS. Zero's, "WHAT AM I FIGHTING FOOOOOOOOOR!?" line never gets old, and neither does Sigma's "You possess enough power... DESTROY them!!!" line. It's nice to see that those cutscenes will finally be getting some better voice acting. Maybe they'd ought to consider doing the same thing for Mega Man 8's cutscenes? Like pronouncing Bass' name right, for instance.

  4. If it is true then Lucas needs to be fired.

  5. Considering I liked Eddie Lebron's MM movie, I'm looking forward to this.

  6. Thanks, but no thanks. Live action MM doesn't look good. Period. They should make it animated instead. I'd kill for a cool, CGI version of the scene.

  7. Will be happy either way, love Lucas so I'm sure it'll be good if it's for real.

  8. Hmm. I'm thinking this foreshadows something. For what it does I cannot say yet.

  9. Just saw what Lucas looks like, he can pull it off, I think. If the production values are high, and the acting is decent, this will be cool.

  15. Live Action? Nah, I'd rather have new/better animated and or CGI rendition instead. But at least this is something

  16. Wait... live.. action, but with Zero's VA? wut?

This will either be awesome win or awesome fail, either way I'll watch it. :D

Gods, if they ever redubbed X4 with Gilbertson I would cry tears of joy. It's still my favourite X game to this day (bad VAing or no :P)

  18. Capcom, you have this huge budget to do something with X.. and what do you do? YOU MAKE A LIVE ACTION MOVIE. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?

instead, use this budget to A) Translate and release Megaman Online here B) Make a new X game.

  19. Remember the Live Action Megaman? I have my second thoughts about this.

P.S.: Who's bold enough to take "Mr Clean" Sigma's role? XD

  22. I always wondered: why is it that Sigma's saber isn't cutting through Zero's pipe?

  23. Canada has officially won the interweb.

Do want. Ok, seriously Capcom, I wanna see live-action X, X, not Zero, X, so I can drool, like, right now.

OMFG, this is gonna be freakin' amazing. Lucas has gotta be STOKED.

I am absolutely sick of seeing people bash MegaMan 8 and MegaMan X4's voice acting. It truly is NOT THAT BAD. My god, if it isnt perfect it's the worst. Nothing in between. Let's be honest, there is definitely worse. There is plenty worse, and quite frankly, X4's voice acting for the most part sounds realistic. Not over done, not TRYING to get the lines perfect. The Iris scene is just fine and the "grrr" at the end of "For" is really no big deal. Sigma's voice was great and fitting, and I dont see the problem with "DESTROY them!". He raised his fist in the scene and put emphasis on what he was relaying to General. Teh acting sounds natural and has a good middle ground. The only voice that didnt suit the character was X, but even so, it worked, did it not?

As for the film in production. I think it is a bad move for it to be live action. At the very least I was hoping for Resident Evil Degeneration's animation team to work on the project. Whatever it is I am sure to watch it and most likely enjoy it as the diehard fan I am. I just hope they don't screw it up, make it cheesy and simple and waste funds when they could have done worlds better. C'mon Capcom. Do us proud!

  26. If they do it like Bungie's Halo commercials, then yes yes yes yes yes yes.

    If not, no.

  27. Now we need a Star Force 3 animated movie and a version of Zero's fight against Elpizo.

I hope Capcom doesn't make this weird.

  28. CAPCOM deosn't understand what fans want. Every fan and their mother know that Megaman (X mind you), CANNOT be represented in a live action, it would look ugly as hell. Can you imagine what they would look like, ugh...!
I deeply hope that there was a mistake somewhere in the text, and that the author meant a CGI film or something in which Lucas will VOICE Zero, not BE Zero.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Think you guys sem to be overlooking the "short" part. its just the Zero vs Sigma part. lucas as Zero? He could mean hes doing the voice.

thse raging over the live action thing, keep in mind this is being produced by a COMPANY, with an actual budget, which means they can use alñl the CGI special effects they want for it.
