Summer World Hobby Fair Dated; Will A New Game Be Revealed?

It's that time of the year again. June 19th marks the opening day of the Japanese summer World Hobby Fair, and according to 4Gamer, Capcom looks to be one of the event's main sponsors. As such, one wonders if Capcom will be following the tradition of revealing a new "Hobby-style" Rockman game at the show.

Last year, the summer WHF played host to the unveiling of Rockman EXE Operate Shooting Star. The year before, Shooting Star Rockman 3. Before that, Shooting Star Rockman 2 and so forth and so on. Taking this pattern into account, it's possible we're on the verge of the unveiling of a new EXE/SSR styled game, but this is merely speculation; don't get your hopes up just yet.

Coro Coro Comics also follows a similar tradition in that they tease forthcoming WHF Rockman announcements prior to the actual event. They haven't done so yet, but perhaps we'll hear something from latest issue, which ships mid June just before the show. Again, all speculation.

  1. Yeah, it's that time of the year. Maybe OSS2?

  2. To me, it's too much like right for this to NOT be an opportunity for Capcom to showcase "Mega Man Universe".

For one, we got that copyright information that was found about a month and some change ago. Then we got Nintendo Power's tease from last issue, which had a picture of the universe. Couple that with some loose talk from Inafune, including, but not limited to how he's confirmed to be working on a yet to be revealed Capcom title that he has been happy to work on (not to mention his remarks at Rockman's Birthday last year, where he said he wanted to do "something different with Rockman before going back to X")?

I think now's as a good time as any for Rockman's true "current-gen" arrival to show itself. After delivering a few good hits for his masters at Capcom (Lost Planet, Dead Rising, both 8-bit Rockman games), I think he was finally allowed to work on a project that he really had his heart set on. But hey had to "pay his dues" with those other titles first.

  3. I don't think this would be for MMU, but like Proto said, something along the lines of a new Network game.

  4. If they announce a sequel to OSS2, please PLEASE let it be a proper crossover. Not this EXE with SSR cameo chapter deal we had with OSS.

If not, either let it be SSR4, or unveil Mega Man Universe.

  6. @ Mike

One thing to keep in mind is that Hobby Fair is not just a platform for Capcom to pimp out their latest "Hobby-style" Rockman games. They've used it as a means to demo, or otherwise showcase their other wares, too.

For example, major title Monster Hunter Tri made a number of appearances at these Hobby Fairs, leading up to its original JP release. And other, non-Hobby Rockman titles have also been unveiled at these events, even including Zero Collection at last Winter's WHF.

Let's also not forget that E3 is going to be happening around the same time, June 15-17. To me, this sounds like Capcom is gearing up for the next big thing relating to the Mega Man franchise. Another OSS may be in the cards, but I highly doubt all this hoopla that stands to occur within days of each other (E3 and WHF) will be for another OSS.

  7. Eh, as much as it pains me to say it, I'm of the mindset that we're likely not getting a new Network timeline game this year. If it is, it's likely going to be something quickly thrown together by a small portion of the development team (like what OSS came out to be like), while the rest of the team works on something larger for the 3DS.

...Unless this next game is a 3DS launch title (like how EXE 1 was a launch title for the GBA - that's how much faith Capcom had for the EXE series at the start), but the chances of something like that happening in this day and age is unlikely.

  8. HAHAHA!!!Alilatias in your face however Takeshi the owner of the EXE/SSR franchise determines it and before Capcom used to have faith in the EXE series but that all changed til Takeshi came into power.

Also the 3DS didnt even come out so it cant be a game for the 3DS.

  9. If they do this again, it better come to the U.S!

  10. It better need come to the world! NOT JUST IN JAPAN ONLY!!

@ 1 Anon; They didn't sell OSS to the world. It will be nice to have OSS after they sell in japan!

@ 2 Anon; Exe and Starforce was so fun to play! If you don't like it then deal with it!!

  11. @Dark Edge: Reading comprehension. I said -launch title-. That means released ALONGSIDE the 3DS.

It's not much of a stretch to think that we'll be hearing of 3DS launch titles soon, what with E3 being around the corner and the 3DS currently being slated to be released during March next year -at the earliest-.

And obviously Capcom has little faith in the entire Rockman franchise in general, going by what has happened in the past few years, so...

Really, the only thing we're sure is inevitably coming is a MM11, and that will probably use the (no offense here, just saying it like it is) cheap 8-bit engine again as the fanbase continues to demand it.

I meant -at the latest-. >_>

  13. I only want another EXE game if they put effort into it.

Blow me away with a good EXE 3DS game.

You can leave stuff like your OSS stunt at the door, Capcom.

  14. If it's another StarForce/ Battle Network thing again, then I'll just say this just to get it off my back, "Oh goody, now I can really prepare myself for disappointment this time!!! Thanks Capcom!"

  15. I'm hoping for Legends Three. That happens, I will have the best fangasm evah.

  16. @Dynamo8: Fun idea - I would guess that people said the exact same thing towards the later Classic and X series. Especially X.

  17. I'm with Atilatias, unfortunately. I just don't think we'll be getting a new Network game anytime soon. But who knows. In fact, I almost feel that we should get a new Network series/sequel or nothing at all-- not more OSS.

  18. @Alilatias: I just think Capcom has had little faith in the Megaman franchises now. I mean sure they've gave out MM9 and 10 as 8-bit classics and that's fine. The retro fans and younger fans loved it....But....

There maybe disappointments here or there with Capcom. All video game companies make mistakes, not just them. So that's normal. But Megaman in general has been the MOST disappointment there is besides Sonic (no offense), they've met so many failures in the franchise that it's not even funny. I just wish Inafune-san had paid more attention to the blue bomber, but hey what can ya do. He got's a new job now by overseeing other Capcom games being made in other countries....guess we all have to wait it out to see something good.

Oh as for X. Love the series, but damn he had so many scars to redeem himself (X4 was the best, X8 was pretty alright but still good).

  19. Megaman star force was a failure, even if the game is a rockman exe, if it get any "star force" in, it's a failure

  20. I bet a million bucks it's Starforce 4 or MM Universe (likely the latter, we would know it's stqarforce 4 if CoroCoro had an article about it, but of course the people who leak the newest issues are notorious for only leaking the Pokemon information (which they will due to Black and White), who knows, maybe it's Legends 3 or Megaman 11, but be expecting Starforce 4 or MM Universe (suprisingly not called Rockman universe considering is's Japan and all)

  21. Mega Man Powered Up 2, Maverick Hunter X 2 and Mega Man Legends 3!

  22. Oh boy maybe a new Operate Shooting Star. Because we all know how well that one went down. So well they didn't bother bringing it to North America.

  23. If they did an OSS2 but as an actual crossover game, not what OSS ended up being, there'll be a HUGE positive response from EXE/SF players, plus people going "at least it isn't as bad as OSS/SF4/something else i complained that we might get" so that seems totally feasible.

I'm happy to see anything Megaman, to be honest. Love all the series. Hope they unveil something wicked!

  24. I hope its a SF4 the SF series isnt technically over plus SF3 was so good plus Capcom of USA ruined it for us. Also Takeshi H in a interview said his favorite series was the SF series and he said he wishes to make a new SF game every year after the release of SF3.
As Anonymous the only EXE OSS never sell well cause it was a minor remake of the first EXE game with SF in it If SF wasnt in it it would have maybe sell less. They just messed up. Hey could even mess up the EXE series too if they got the chance.

  25. I highly doubt it will be an OSS2, it would be more around the lines of a Starforce 4, or the Megaman Universe (still don't get why it's not called "Rockman Universe"), Those two are the most possible, but maybe it will be Legends 3, if it actually were an OSS2, it would be a special event accesed in said Starforce 4 acessed by linking SF4 with OSS, considering that Clock Man is the EXE form of the CoroCoro Boss "Clock Genius", we would see his original drawn form in SF4 OSS2 as CLock Genius.....
