Seth Killian Teases 'Rad' Surprise For Mega Man Series

Coming from an interview between Capcom's Seth Killian and Destructoid...

"It's good. I don't want to say nobody has seen it coming. Somebody may have seen it coming. But it excited me and when I heard about the project, I was like, 'Holy crap. That's rad.' I actually haven't seen anything that's going on with the project right now but the idea was exciting.  This is still kicking around as a concept. But there are exciting ideas in the Mega Man space."

That 'seen it coming' tidbit really has my excited; seems to imply this project is something we've been discussing and or speculating about for a while. A penny for your thoughts? What does Capcom have up their sleeve?

  1. ZX3??? ZX3??? Well, this is all great news. I don't really care which game it is, but I'm really excited for anything that's coming.

  2. Rockman Scramble Battle please thank you *0*?
    Legends 3 maybe?

  3. I would love to think that it's going to be something like DASH 3, but his comment about how it's "rad" and still kicking around in people's heads seems to imply, as I take it, that it might just be something completely different for the series.

  4. Hm, the way that is worded is that it's not something that's been demanded for years, like a Legends 3 or X9.

We are approaching the time of year that new Network Timeline games tend to be announced in Japan though. However, he says that this particular thing is still being kicked around as a concept idea, so chances are high it's not referring to whatever the Network Timeline might get this year.

I had been tossing around what I would (admittedly) call a 'crackpot idea' over at Capcom Unity and TMMN forums about a month and a half ago.

The idea was essentially a Classic/EXE crossover. The heroes and villains of Classic teaming up with their counterparts in the EXE world. (It's at least feasible, given the existence of CopyBots in EXE 6. I also thought it should take place entirely in the Classic world, just to get the 'what to do with most of the minor EXE human characters not having a Classic counterpart' issue out of the way.)

The idea was far more anime-based rather than game-based, although a game might somehow work out. I outlined how a game might work out, but it'd be too long to explain here, not to mention that I sort of doubt Capcom could pull it off in that way.

My terrible wishful thinking would probably say that it might be something like this.

  5. Rad?? Sound like after Starforce. XD

    Megaman Rad

  6. Although I honestly couldn't care less about it, I'll be putting my money on Mega Man Legends 3. It's either that, or Mega Man: Powered Up 2, since Inafune once said that it has a strong possibility of happening.

  8. Legends 3? New X game? Scramble Battle?

  9. Megaman powered up 2 MHX 2 and Megaman Legends 3 please!

  10. That, 'they're still kicking it around as a concept,' implies that its something completely new, I think, meaning an entirely new series.
If it isn't something new, I really hope it's another installment to the X series (though the recent article concerning that doesn't instill much confidence). Odds are, if it isn't something new, it's Legends 3, and if it is, I would be sorely disappointed since I really, REALLY don't like Legends. *ducks under a rock*
Now, if it IS something entirely new, which I think it is, I really hope Capcom brings Rockman back to his robotic roots. As much as I liked EXE and Star Force (and I did), computer programs and wi-fi aliens are kinda getting old.
    Robots, plz. kthxbai.

  11. It's either Scramble Battle or Legends 3.

Keiji getting promoted, Lost Planet 2 and its engine, I think this is Megaman Legends 3 getting green-lighted.

  13. Brahman -

I agree with you. That's the vibe I get too.

Just... please not an FPS. Please not an FPS. Please not an FPS. The last thing that should ever happen to Mega Man is for it to turn into a dudebro franchise.

  14. I don't know if I should be worried or hopeful.

  15. Oh this has to be Legends 3. What else would get so much praise?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Wow, I wasn't a huge Legends fan, but I have to say Legends would look soooo awesome on current-gen hardware. Though at the same time, it's very tempting to forego graphics and opt for a wii-remote guided buster.

  17. Well said second anon...

    Although, one can still hope.

(Please let it be Legends 3 so the fanboys will finally shut up...)

  18. I say some sort of Marvel Vs Capcom game without the marvel and just so many 3D battle network characters

    ReplyDelete
  19. Watch the wording, it could give a hint.

  20. I hope to God it's not another Star Force-related title.

    Legends 3 please!!

  22. Yes, as the second anon said, this is the same guy who had us looking for a secret in Mega Man 9 that likely never existed. Don't get your hopes up, seriously.

  23. Hmmm...

Megaman 11: Good (8 bits), Awesome (16 bits)

Megaman X9: Excelent (16 bits), Outstanding (32 bits)

    Megaman Zero 5: Epic, Glorious.

    Megaman ZX 3: Interesting, Mysterious.

Megaman Legends 3: Holy Grail for some Megaman fans.

    And now....

Any sequel to those pokeman.exe sagas: Cool, rad, yeah nigga, pure awesomeness, xtreme, plugy´rup dud. It gives me the creeps.

  24. I'm telling ya, it's gonna be Cain and Sigma X Board: That's Sanctuary. :D

@Anon #2, Warrior, and Mike: He's said multiple times that there is a secret and he's not lying. I'm fairly certain that he wouldn't be yanking our legs when we're already into MM10. Just because we haven't found it yet, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Sorry, but s-kill is lame. From the pathetic MM9 obscurity to the each new thing he drops, as teasing & "making a monkey out of me". His comment brings nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  26. It could be that whole thing about Pandora and Prometheus. I was looking forward to that.

    ReplyDelete
  27. As much as I don't want Rockman to ever step, even remotely, into FPS territory...

(Seriously, looking at Star Force's combat design through Famitsu scans and the official site set up back in the Fall of 06' immediately shut off any enthusiasm I had for the series. Later learning about the huge steps backwards it made from EXE's combat system while watching my little cousin fight through some Wi-Fi matches only made me dislike the series even more.)

...Inafune had been mentioning how Capcom needed to 'adapt to the global market and westernize', or something like that.

A FPS sounds like it would be in like with that, although I would seriously hope not. I would think such a thing would bomb faster than the effect the later X games had on the X universe.

Heck, it could very well bomb even faster than ZX. Something like a FPS most likely wouldn't sit well with the Japanese fanbase. At all.

(Holy mother of god, I wish I had photoshop.)

For all the crap he keeps saying about more mainstream stuff, he seems to keep up with it enough to use arguments derived from the mainstream. Especially what with using Failblog to argue for him throughout the month...

I wonder if he knows what the meaning of irony is.

Really with all the teasing and such, it's going to be Legends 3 or another X game.

But, just as the most wildest guess ever: cross-series MegaMan Soccer 2. X slide takling the ball away from EXE, Volmutt passing to Protoman and then back to harp Note... Although nobody would probably want it, it could be good if done right.

    ReplyDelete
  29. By "exciting ideas" I hope he means "sidescroller co-op multiplayer". But Seth has a tendency to overhype things sometimes, so I'll hold this with a grain of salt.

If it's still being thrown around as a concept, wouldn't that mean it's really early in development?

    ReplyDelete
  30. How about a third person X game? I'd be down with that.

    ReplyDelete
  31. @cccd-erckie

Disliking Legends. REALLY disliking it, at that. Yet liking Star Force? Does not compute.

As for this mystery. Scramble Battle was mentioned some time ago before and it might be the idea thats still kicking around. Legends 3 would be greatly welcomed. Since he used the word "Rad" I sure hope it isnt another nostalgia gimmick.

    ReplyDelete
  32. "In the Mega Man Space..."

What if he meant that as a hint. Like space = Duo. Maybe a game on where Duo came from?

  34. DASH 3, SSR3, EXE7, X-series sequel, ZX-sequel/spinoff, or a new Network series.

Or Rockman May Cry or something. A Rockman FPS would be acceptable as long as you could change perspective between first and third person view.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Scramble Battle was shovelware. I doubt that's rad.

If X7 is any indication, Capcom can't seem to do a third person X game. Legends was almost a third person game and was good though, so who knows.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Well, I doubt it's a new RockMan, since this is something somebody could have seen coming, and I doubt anybody can really guess what the next series could be.

    Could it be this?

    Crossover fighting game, por favor.

  38. There are MANY possibilities.
    Which one is most likely?
MMPU2? MHX2? ZX3? Legends 3? Tron Bonne 2? Xtreme 3? Soccer 2? B&C2? SAR2? Rockboard 2? EXESOS2? Zero 0? Scramble Battle? Mega Man Mania? Mega Man Zero Powered Up? The Misadventures of Axl? A 3D Mega Man 11 with Legends gameplay and return of slide, charge, Rush adapters and Duo? ...???

    ReplyDelete
  39. @MegaMac: Really?

Look, I like Legends and all, but just because it's been in limbo for this long does not mean that Legends can instantly elevate itself to a status above any criticism.

    ---

Anyways, TMMN has something new up about a 'Mega Man Universe' just being trademarked. "Space" indeed.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I don't know but it could be a new concept like a "Mega Man Hero"...Guitar Hero / Rock Band but with Mega Man / Mega Man X Music, that would be cool.

Now "X9"...I don't know but I think Inafune isn't willing to do a X9 YET. I might think of the "LINK Mega Man game" that should join the Classic timeline and the X timeline, that's 1 possibility.

Legends 3? I'm totally doubtful with this. I've never heard of a tease from inafune about Legends 3 in a while, but heck, it's another possibility.

My cents go to a Mega Man that will LINK finally the gap between classic and X.

If not..damn, we will have to wait more years to come :/

@Update: seems there's a chance that the game could be Mega Man Universe, a recopilation of every single Mega Man launched into 1 package, just read protodude news :)
