Operate Shooting Star Helps Boost Capcom

Thanks in part to steady sales of Rockman EXE: Operate Shooting Star, Capcom has posted a soaring profit for this past period.

Citing "steady sales supported by their established brand names", Operate Shooting Star, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, Monster Hunter Tri~, Ace Attorney investigations: Miles Edgeworth, and Resident Evil 5 boosted the company's sales up 5.9% to 49.99 billion yen ($551 million). Net income saw an impressive jump at 865.9% to 1.73 billion yen ($19 million).

All in all, Capcom is laugh all the way to the bank.

  1. To be honest, I'm surprised that OSS has been selling well enough to turn them a profit. I had no idea; in fact, I remember reading about it hitting the bargain bin pretty fast, so I thought it was considered a failure (and rightly so, from what I understand). o_O

Please, just bring on Star Force 4 already... I love EXE as much as the next fan, but the series is over, and Capcom made it clear they aren't willing to put much effort into a EXE/RnR crossover.

  2. Imagine how much more they could make by bringing it over here..... just saying.

  3. Not like it cost them much to make minor updates to a really old GBA game. They could have sold 1,000 copies and made a profit.

And if they EVER make a Starforce 4 I will cry. Just horribly boring games.

  4. Perhaps they've finally got enough funds for MML3?

  5. @MHA: I wouldn't even give it the vaunted crossover status. It was a port. If they're going to make a new game it could just as well be a good EXE 7 or true crossover (though they won't do that NOW) as Star Force 4.

I'm tired of hearing about OSS though, because it was a major letdown. I almost poo'd my pants when I heard they revived EXE, and then they dropped the ball.

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO

DO NOT MAKE A SF4 CAPCOM.

SF3 was the PERFECT ending to the series. I do NOT want another BN4. I miss the series to, but I do not want to ruin the memory of it.

Except that they aren't. Star Force 1 wasn't so great, but SF 2 was a huge improvement and SF 3 is every bit the equal of the best EXE games. I would imagine SF 4 to be just as good or even better (then again, we know what happened with EXE 4, so maybe not...).

My guess, though, is that you haven't played anything past SF 1 (if you've played them at all) and are just saying the series is boring because it's the "popular" Mega Man fan thing to do.

Okay, I'll agree with you there. Perhaps I spoke too soon; Star Force 3 WAS a pretty damn perfect ending to the series. After EXE 4 was so awful, I wouldn't want SF 4 to ruin such a great ending in the same way.

That said, EXE 5 and 6 were both great and felt like they added relevant twists and depth to the overall story, so... I suppose it was a fair trade-off. :P

  12. OSS is a exe game and the exe WIN! Because it's the most tactical action/rpg! Star Force is TOO BORING and there is no gameplay!

  13. BN4 was the best exe game, the hardest EXE game with the best gameplay, in the undernet, we can die ofter without the soul unisons!

    SF4 is just...too easy.

  14. Please bring OOS to Western!! Please!! I will be happy!! I don't care if it is remake as long as I want fight "Megaman vs Megaman"

  15. First of all, it's lumped in with other games, so do we know if it actually contributed much?

2nd maybe putting the game in the bargain bin is what boosted the sales. Capcom had next to no investment in this title, so even at $20 they were probably making more per unit than they were on SF series games at $30 a unit.

  16. Capcom never know what if Western will buy OSS than Japan did. In Japan, unpopular, in wrestern, maybe too popular!!
