Preliminary OSS Box-Art

Stumbled across this over at GG02, the tentative box-art for Operate Shooting Star. We saw this earlier last week, but now it's of larger quality and features the back side:

A couple things of note:
  • lack of WiFi logo further suggests that the game is local multiplayer only.
  • there's a small blurb concerning the WWW organization ('World Three'). Implication that Clock Man has some sort of relationship with the group.
The inclusion of WiFi is debatable. The absences of a "Nintendo WiFi Connection" symbol here might be due to the fact that this is a tentative box art and might not necessarily reflect the final product. However, we must take into consideration previous instances where WiFi was implied to be non-existent such as the official OSS web site (lacks the traditional WFC logo) and numerous online shop product descriptions, which fail to indicate internet play of any sort.

  1. It would be so cool if World Three survived 200 years and sent back Clockman as the ultimate plan to foil Netto and Rockman.

That might not be too far off. :O I think I called it! XD

  2. The lack of wifi is disappointing. As much as there was hype before, I'm not actually looking forward to this game now.

  3. After all they've done, the question comes up: Why play this game? They certainly haven't made it exceptionally appealing.

  4. Wow... talk about one step forward and two steps back. One an only wonder why Wifi seems to be excluded...

  5. Because they've been lazy and ruined the thing that the most diehard EXE fans wanted: one last good game. Instead we get the first one with like... some candy taped to it. Now whatever chance a good sequel or entire rebirth had is gone. :|

  6. The more and more I see the battlefield, the more and more I come to believe that they are standing on a Windows Folder, I mean just look at it.

Nice way to pay homage to Windows Capcom... <_<

  7. So Microsoft invented the paper folder design that got carried over into Windows, Linux and a host of other OS's? :P That's not just a windows design, you goofball.

Though the "EXE" on the end does kind of cut out a few... XD Can you imagine... "Rockman.app!" XD It just doesn't sound near as SUPER FRICKEN AWESOME.

  8. I mean, think about it... the entire idea of the game is to destroy viruses. I wouldn't be surprised if the concept was drawn up tongue-in-cheek after a windows computer crash in the Capcom Japan offices. XD

We don't get enough backstories on video game idea origins. :P

  9. It was dissapointing enough that Double team DS didn't have wifi, but now that they have another chance of having a battle network game with wifi again, and not adding it? What the hell is up with these people? I would love to play PVP over wifi, EXE/Battle Network style instead of Starforce's style, seeing as how both SF 2 and 3 had wifi. Come on capcom, bring on the wifi. It's really the only thing im looking forward to in this "Remake".

  10. Wouldn't it be weird if SF Mega Man was presented as MegaMan.EXE's equal in power and potential? I mean, I love MegaMan.EXE as much as any red-blooded Battle Network fan, but SF Mega Man is based on technology from 200 years in the future. I wonder how they'll justify making the two of them equal in power (if they do)?

Maybe SF Mega Man being pulled back to a time where the technology used to "make" him doesn't exist limits his power?

Either way, it's much like how X is infinitely more powerful than Mega Man. Obviously the situation is a bit different, but SF Mega Man is still based on tech that's 200 years more advanced than MegaMan.EXE, and it's not like MegaMan.EXE is X -- he's the most powerful Navi ever, easily, but he doesn't exactly have limitless potential, so wouldn't taking on anything from 200 years in the future pose a problem for him?

Okay, fanboy moment over. I'm probably thinking about this minutia far more than Capcom ever will, anyway. :P

And like I said, this wasn't a slam against MegaMan.EXE. He's tied with the original Mega Man as my second favorite Mega Man, after X. I just think it's an obvious point of discussion...

  11. I think SS RockMan's special abilities (Warrock Attacks and his built-in Shield, specifically) are a representation of his more advanced battle capabilities. It's not really a "who could beat the other in a fist fight" thing as opposed to having more bells and whistles. Also, you have to take into consideration that RockMan EXE's strength doesn't come from himself, but rather his potential for infinite strength that comes being built from human DNA and this being tapped into by Netto's synergy with him. Brother Band is derived from that, but there's nothing like the real thing, you know?

  12. With the boxarts of the other Battle Network games still being on this one, I can't help but continue wondering.. The other exe stories playable as well..? Would be cool to have a complete ''collection'' of all exe games in one.

  13. btw, everyone seen SF Megaman's sprite yet? Omega-Xis is in there too. it's on the backside, top-left.

  14. @Roy L.: They would have touted it as a compilation rather than "a port of the original with a little something extra."

  15. You know, I can't believe I'm just mentioning it but they're re-using that art of SS RockMan an awful lot. It was cool a while back but now it's just a little overdone...

  16. @Anonymous: Yeah, probably. Wasn't a half bad idea though, huh?

  17. @Roy L.: It's a fantastic idea. :) That would be a lot more work than they've put into this though, sadly. :(

  18. I seem to be the lonely one who doesn't care if there's Wi-Fi or not... Oh well...
