11 Year Old Plays Mega Man 2 For The Very First Time

Nerdballoon recently started an intriguing experiment by the name of 'Project D', in which eleven year old Dylan is exposed to classic video games for the very first time. The most recent entry in the series was devoted entirely to the boy's impressions of Mega Man 2. Bottom line: he enjoyed the game; hated the music.

  2. Rockman 2 is my favorite game out of the classic series. I don't understand why he could hate the music though, meh, you can't expect someone who hasn't grown up with classic games to automatically like it after being exposed to what we have now I guess. I'll still like it though.

  3. I can understand. When I first played it, the gameplay was interesting but the music was just awful. It's bleeps and bloops! They were forced to do that because of technical limitations.

  5. Wow, this kid is a real brat. He has no appreciation for the classics. He kept saying he didn't like the graphics or music. HOW can he not like Mega Man 2's soundtrack!? And he's never played a platformer? That's all I've grown up with and I'm only 3 years older than him.

  6. DID NOT LIKE MUSIC, WHAT.
and then he gave a 5/10 score.
    I don't... what is this?!

  7. How does that make him a brat? He never said he disliked either, just that they weren't the best. That's hardly bratty. He enjoyed the game, and that's really all that is needed to "Appreciate the classics"

  8. *loads shotgun at kid, eyes shining like in animé..* LOVE the music.. or die. Orrr just listen to remixes, THEN love it. Or die. (I'm not serious about the ''die'' stuff :p)

  9. So what if he doesn't like the music?
I didn't favor MM2's music much 'cept for Crash Man's stage; and besides, if he didn't like the game, then there are others he probably will.

  10. What the flip is wrong with you people? It's called an opinion. You can't like everything out there -_-; Give the kid a break, maybe he isn't a fan of vgm, period.

  11. This really doesn't come as a surprise when you stop and think about it. If he's being exposed to classic games for the first time, and probably been playing nothing but games on the Wii/PS3/360 and hearing music on it, then going to a classic console and games, it comes as quite a shock.... but still, it's MM2, how can you hate it??

  12. Err, hehe, there's nothing wrong with disliking simple bleeps and bloops and pixelly crap.

    Yes I said crap.

And I love the classic games.

But the graphics are still crap.

    That doesn't mean I don't like them. ;)

Let me ask you all something... do you like to listen to your grandma's vinyl recordings of the Lawrence Welk show with accordions and 60's music, or would you prefer to listen to more modern bands with your mp3 player? ;)

  13. Obviously someone who doesn't have some childhood connection with NES games can say that if he's playing back. I'm with the kid on this one because I probably played it at his age and thought the same thing.

  14. >>But the graphics are still crap.

Because lots of brown and shiny makes a game great. amirite?

  16. You guys are whining like a bunch of old men and women. T_T;;; Seriously, after the awesome music capability of games these days, it's no wonder why he could care less for the music. He's the next generation. Let's not look down on him for his opinions like our parents did us, ok?
